The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India’s highest cinema honor, celebrates individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Indian films. Named after Dadasaheb Phalke, the pioneer of Indian cinema, the award is presented annually during the National Film Awards by a distinguished committee of members from the film industry.

At the 71st National Film Awards, veteran Malayalam actor Mohanlal received this prestigious accolade, becoming both the youngest actor to win it and the second person from Kerala to be honored.

During his address, Mohanlal expressed deep gratitude and humility, emphasizing that the award represents not only his achievements but also the collective efforts of the Malayalam film industry. “I view this award as a tribute to our industry, creativity, and hard work,” he said. “When I heard the news, I felt honored and privileged to represent the voice of our cinema.”

Mohanlal described the moment as one that surpasses even his greatest dreams. He dedicated the award to everyone associated with Malayalam cinema and the audiences in Kerala who have supported the industry over decades. Quoting poet Kumaran Asan, he added, “This flower did not just fall into the dust, it lived a life of beauty,” highlighting the enduring impact of cinema and its creators.

He also extended his thanks to the Government of India, the President, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, and the award jury for recognizing his work. Mohanlal concluded by promising to continue his cinematic journey with sincerity, passion, and dedication.
