Malayalam superstar Mohanlal, who is riding high on back-to-back blockbusters this year, has reportedly declined to star in an upcoming biopic directed by Jai Bhim fame TJ Gnanavel. Despite holding multiple discussions and script narrations, the actor is said to have opted out of the project.

According to industry reports, the film is tentatively titled Dosa King and is based on the life of P. Rajagopal, the controversial founder of the Saravana Bhavan restaurant chain. Rajagopal, who earned the moniker “Dosa King,” was sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in a high-profile murder case. The biopic is expected to explore his dramatic rise, fall, and eventual downfall.

After Mohanlal’s refusal, sources reveal that Gnanavel has approached veteran Tamil actor Sathyaraj to play the central role. Talks are said to be in advanced stages, and if finalized, Sathyaraj could soon headline this bold and intriguing project.

Meanwhile, 2025 has been a phenomenal year for Mohanlal. His films Empuraan, Thudarum, and Hridayapoorvam have shattered box office records in Kerala and overseas, reaffirming his superstar status. Given his current form, the actor appears highly selective about his future roles, aligning them carefully with his image and audience expectations.

While fans may be disappointed that Mohanlal will not portray such a layered real-life character, they can still look forward to his much-anticipated sequel, Empuraan 2, among other upcoming ventures.
