Mollywood Faces Abuse and Drug Scandal Controversies

Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan is currently embroiled in controversy after his former manager accused him of physical and verbal abuse. The manager filed a complaint in Kochi and sought medical treatment for his injuries.

The Malayalam film industry, known for delivering compelling stories on the big screen, has recently been plagued by a series of controversies involving some of its prominent actors. Issues such as sexual harassment and drug abuse on film sets have cast a shadow over the industry.

Notably, actor Shine Tom Chacko, who has appeared in Telugu films like Dasara, Rangabali, and Devara, made headlines recently after attempting a dramatic escape by jumping off a hotel balcony during an anti-narcotic special action force inspection.

Back in 2017, the Justice Hema Committee report exposed deep-rooted problems within Mollywood, describing it as a “mafia of powerful men.” Since then, at least 17 cases have been filed against well-known actors, directors, and producers, including Ranjith Balakrishnan, VK Prakash, Siddique, Mukesh, and Jayasurya.

Earlier this year, producer Sandra Thomas brought to light the rampant drug abuse on film sets, alleging that producers were allocating specific budgets to purchase drugs.

While Mollywood continues to gain national recognition for its artistic output, these recurring controversies have sparked widespread public outrage and damaged the industry’s reputation. Many netizens believe that urgent reforms and a thorough cleanup are needed to restore trust and integrity to Malayalam cinema.
