Mozambique has confirmed three new cases of mpox, formerly known as monkeypox, according to a statement by Inocencio Impissa, spokesperson for the Council of Ministers. The cases were detected in Niassa province, located in the northern region of the country.

The patients, all Mozambican nationals, had recently traveled between Mozambique and neighboring Malawi. Upon confirmation of the infections, the individuals were immediately placed in quarantine to ensure close monitoring and to prevent further transmission.

Health authorities have activated surveillance protocols in the region and are coordinating with international partners to trace contacts and manage the situation effectively. The government emphasized its commitment to protecting public health and urged citizens to remain vigilant, follow hygiene guidelines, and report any symptoms promptly.

Mpox is a viral zoonotic disease known to cause fever, skin rashes, and swollen lymph nodes. While most cases are mild, health officials are taking precautionary measures to contain its spread.

This development highlights the ongoing challenges in managing cross-border health threats and the importance of regional cooperation in disease surveillance and control.
