Visakhapatnam MP M. Shribharath recently undertook an official study tour to Singapore to examine the city-state’s tourism strategies and development models, with the goal of applying similar initiatives in Vizag. The visit is viewed as a step toward positioning the coastal city as a leading international tourism destination.
During his trip, Shribharath focused on Sentosa Island, Singapore’s premier tourist hub, to understand how diverse attractions, international events, visitor-friendly infrastructure, and advanced healthcare contribute to its global popularity. He also explored the Mandai Wildlife Reserve Night Safari and other key attractions, studying how technology and sustainability are integrated into tourism management.
In discussions with Sentosa management, he addressed challenges such as introducing new technologies while preserving the environment. The team shared insights from their Sensoryscape Project, a Virtual Reality initiative, emphasizing the importance of balancing immersive experiences with ecological responsibility.
Shribharath highlighted lessons from Singapore, including the use of AI and VR for tourism management, maintaining high safety standards, and enforcing sustainability practices like waste management and water conservation. He suggested that applying these strategies could elevate Vizag landmarks such as RK Beach and Kailasagiri to world-class standards. The MP also expressed plans to host international events and enhance eco-tourism in Visakhapatnam, inspired by Singapore’s success.
Summing up the trip, Shribharath said, “Challenges we face are different, but the inspiration remains the same: the principle that people matter…[with] their interests [being] at the center – whether in healthcare or tourism.”
