Allu Arjun Moves Court Over Personality Rights

In a notable legal development, Telugu star Allu Arjun has approached the Delhi High Court seeking protection of his personality rights. The case is set to be heard soon by Justice Tushar Rao Gedela.
The actor has filed a suit against the unauthorized use of his identity, including his name, image, voice, and other distinctive attributes. He has also raised concerns over the commercial misuse of his persona, particularly through unlicensed merchandise and profit-driven activities carried out without his consent.
Allu Arjun’s petition brings attention to a growing concern in the digital age—misuse of celebrity identities, especially with the rapid rise of AI-generated content and unauthorized branding.
In recent times, the Delhi High Court has actively stepped in to safeguard the personality rights of several prominent figures across industries. Notable names include Mohanlal, Aniruddhacharya, Jubin Nautiyal, Pawan Kalyan, and Sunil Gavaskar.
Actors such as Kajol, R. Madhavan, and N. T. Rama Rao Jr. have also secured similar legal protections. Meanwhile, Salman Khan has filed a comparable plea, further highlighting this emerging trend.
Additionally, court orders have protected the rights of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Nagarjuna, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, and filmmaker Karan Johar.
In a recent case, the court extended protection to journalist Sudhir Chaudhary against the spread of misleading AI-generated videos. Similarly, a John Doe order was granted in favor of podcaster Raj Shamani, acknowledging his growing influence in the digital content space.
Allu Arjun’s move reflects a broader shift in the entertainment and media landscape, where public figures are increasingly taking legal measures to safeguard their identity. The outcome of this case could play a crucial role in strengthening the legal framework around personality rights in India, particularly in an era of rapid digital expansion.
