Talented director Nag Ashwin made a remarkable mark with Kalki, featuring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone in leading roles. The film turned into a colossal success, grossing ₹1200 crore at the box office and becoming a global sensation.

Now, the much-awaited sequel to Kalki has been the subject of intense speculation for a while, but official updates have been scarce. However, Ashwin recently provided an intriguing update on the project. He humorously mentioned that the first Kalki was released when 3 to 4 planets aligned in the solar system, and joked that the sequel could release when 7 to 8 planets align. While this might sound like a quirky comment, Ashwin could be hinting at the complexity involved in getting the sequel off the ground.

The primary reason for the delay seems to be the packed schedule of Prabhas, who is currently juggling multiple projects. Given his commitments, it appears unlikely that he will be diving into the sequel anytime soon. Ashwin’s playful reference to planetary alignment may not be far from the truth—considering the challenges involved in getting the right timing, resources, and creative vision for the film.

Though Kalki became a box-office hit, it wasn’t without its flaws in terms of writing. The film relied heavily on a strong release season and a dramatic final 10 minutes to win over the audience, leaving much to be desired in terms of critical acclaim. Given this, the sequel might need a perfect storm of factors—maybe even planetary alignment—to become a reality. Fans may have to wait a bit longer before they can witness Kalki 2 on the big screen.
