Akkineni scion Naga Chaitanya scored a career biggest hit with Sekhar Kammula’s Love Story. The film was loved by the overseas audiences more than the domestic audiences. He is struggling to repeat Love Story-like success. His Bangarraju also could not help him. Despite being a sequel to a hit film, Bangarraju ended up with decent collections.
His recent outing Thank You too joined the list. Forget about the overall collection, the romantic drama could not make a big noise on day one itself. It started with a flop show in collections and the same is being continued.
Even the big market of the Telugu cinema, overseas also saw Thank You struggling to get footfalls at the theatres. The weekend also could not help the Naga Chaitanya starrer. Though overseas is a big market, the audiences there are not like audiences here.
As the overseas ticket prices are high compared to here, the audiences will watch films that excite them. Sadly, there has been a mixed talk from premiers itself, and by the end of day one of release, the audiences declared it as a box office dud.
The official data says that, Thank You barely managed to earn around $165k which is very less. Almost all the films earn around one million dollars in the US market. Films that earn below this are seen as flops. Looking at the trend, the Naga Chaitanya starrer might end up earning 25 percent of the mighty 1 million club.
In the domestic market too, Naga Chaitanya’s Thank You did not get a good start. The experts say that the film recorded one of the least collections and grosses in the Akkineni hero’s career. Thank You could not get half of what Bangarraju got.
To hold on to his position, Naga Chaitanya needs a strong hit like Love Story. He prefers doing films with small directors and filmmakers who are known for making content-driven films. The box office collections determine the star status of the stars and in this regard, he has to pick up his game.
Thank You is helmed by Vikram Kumar. After Manan, Naga Chaitanya and directo came together for the film. Rashi Khanna played the leading lady and Dil Raju bankrolled the recent outing.
