After Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, Telugu star Akkineni Nagarjuna has also approached the court seeking protection of his personality rights. The actor stated that he was aggrieved by three major infringements — misuse of his persona on pornographic websites, the unauthorized sale of merchandise using his image and traits, and the circulation of objectionable YouTube videos.
Responding orally in Nagarjuna’s favour, the court remarked, “When you can identify the URLs, the best is to direct them to take down. Will pass orders.” The court is expected to issue formal directions soon and has listed the matter for hearing on January 23rd.
Through his counsel, Nagarjuna argued that multiple YouTube shorts and promotional videos misusing his image were damaging his reputation. He urged the court to safeguard his personality rights in light of such violations.
The Delhi High Court also noted that once content is uploaded online, generative AI models can recognize and replicate it, highlighting the urgent need for stricter protection of public figures’ identity and image in the digital age.
