Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has literally scored a big point over his Telangana counterpart K Chandrasekhar Rao on ensuring a memorial for Telangana bidda, former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao.
Though it was KCR who had declared PV birth anniversary and death anniversary as official functions, he had forgot to lobby with the Centre in having a memorial for PV in New Delhi. And Naidu took advantage of it and made a representation to the Modi government for the same.
The NDA government readily conceded the request and agreed to set up PV Samadhi at Ekta Sthal along with other former Prime Ministers. Of course, the Modi government has its own reasons to do so. The BJP leadership considers it as a tribute to the former Prime Minister, who had played his own role in the demolition of the Babri Masjid.
Neverthless, it gave an opportunity for the TDP president to claim the credit. “The decision to construct a memorial for Rao is appreciable as the former was instrumental in introducing economic liberalization in the country,” TDP vice-president E Peddireddy and politburo member Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy said. They said it was an honour for Telugu bidda, rather than just Telangana bidda.
