Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu shared a series of stunning photos from Gandikota, often called the “Grand Canyon of India.” Located in Kadapa district, Gandikota is a natural wonder carved by the Pennar River, and the breathtaking images quickly went viral, filling people with pride.
One of the photos shows Naidu standing alone, taking in the vast canyon view, while other pictures capture him interacting with a small group, possibly discussing the area’s tourism potential. The deep rocky cliffs, the calm river, and the lush greenery surrounding the site made the scenery look like something out of a dream. Posting the pictures, Naidu asked, “Stunning view, isn’t it? Can you guess where this is?” Thousands responded with excitement, immediately identifying the location as Gandikota.
This comes as Naidu has been actively pushing to make Andhra Pradesh a top tourist destination. A few months ago, at the Tourism Tech Conclave in Vijayawada, he announced incentives for tourism investors, including stamp duty exemptions, electricity duty reimbursements, and SGST returns. Promoting Gandikota’s natural beauty fits perfectly into this larger plan.
Just 15 km from Jammalamadugu, Gandikota also holds historical importance. Once a stronghold of the Kalyani Chalukyas and the Pemmasani Nayakas, it is home to a majestic fort and a canyon between the Erramala hills, making it a unique mix of history and adventure. The government has already invested ₹3 crore to develop the region, including trekking routes and improved lodging facilities at the Haritha hotel.
Following Naidu’s post, social media was flooded with praise and suggestions to further improve roads and connectivity to boost tourism. With these pictures going viral, Gandikota has now become a trending travel destination, with tourists, nature lovers, and adventure seekers adding it to their must-visit lists.
Naidu’s efforts to highlight Andhra Pradesh’s natural beauty seem to be paying off. If plans move ahead as expected, Gandikota could soon emerge as one of India’s top tourist spots. For now, these viral photos have successfully showcased the stunning landscapes the state has to offer.
