At a time when Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao extending olive branch to his AP counterpart N Chandrababu Naidu over Godavari river water sharing, Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister Deveni Uma Maheshwar Rao sought to expose KCR’s wily tactics.Devineni told media persons on Saturday that KCR was trying to cheat the people of Andhra Pradesh with his sweet talk. Calling KCR’s bluff on Polavaram submergence areas, he said there was no truth in the Telangana Chief Minister’s claim that Naidu had agreed to return seven mandals of Khammam which would face submergence under Polavaram project back to Telangana.
“It is a blatant lie. Naidu had never given any such assurance to KCR that the submergence mandals would be restored to Telangana. They were merged with AP through a Constitutional amendment in Parliament. They cannot be given back to Telangana but will remain with AP. Naidu will not surrender to KCR under any circumstances,” Devieni said.KCR on Friday said he was ready to adopt a give-and-take approach with AP.
“When I can enter into an agreement with Maharashtra government, why should I feel shy of having similar agreement with my neighbouring Telugu State on river water sharing. AP can very well utilise its legitimate share in Godavari waters. There is no need for any petty quarrels,” he said.
