The National Green Tribunal who are dealing the LG Polymers case gave took sensational decisions that will make the polymers company regret their mistake. First of all, they asked the company to use Rs.50cr for the environmental restoration which was previously deposited in the NGT.
In May, the LG Polymers company situated near Vizag, Venkatagiri leaked dangerous and poisonous gas accidentally that caused 12 deaths and injured hundreds of people. The consequences of the leakage are very scary compared to the already happened damaged. It is known that NGT and the high court are investigating the issue and NGT gave their first report recently.
Now, the NGT formed a three-member team, one from the central environmental department, and a PCB member and the Vizag collector to make sure that the LG polymers spend the deposited Rs. 50cr for the ecological restoration in the affected areas.
On the other side, the series of sensational decisions took by NGT brought so much criticism on Jagan’s government. Many people are alleging the government that they are only the people of words and they can’t do anything by actions.
The AP government just gave compensation to the victims but took neither took any action on the company or started a formal investigation against the company as well. Punishing the culprits or making them suffer is justice but not pacifying the victims.
On the other side, NGT said that every rupee in that Rs.50cr should be accounted and reported to them directly and ordered the State secretary to identify the responsible official who supported the in LG Polymers for not following the safety norms within 2 months and asked the Secretary to take him into custody.
The NGT also said that it is the responsibility of the AP State secretary to form two committees in this issue. One should calculate the exact compensation that the victims’ families will receive and the other should check the safety norms being followed by LG Polymers. Until everything comes to their satisfaction, no permission will be granted to LG polymers and in future also they will not be granted with all kinds of permissions.
