Nimmagadda Cries Foul Over Fake Poll Schedule

It looks like controversies continue to haunt retired IAS officer and Andhra Pradesh state election commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, even after his reinstatement in the post on July 30, following a Supreme Court order.

For the last few hours, a notification has been doing rounds in the media circles, announcing the schedule for local body elections in Andhra Pradesh.

The schedule has a detailed programme of conducting the elections for panchayat raj bodies and municipalities and quotes Nimmagadda as saying that the election code comes into force immediately.

Nimmagadda cried foul over what he described as a fake schedule.

“It has been brought to the notice of Commission that a schedule of elections is supposedly released by Commission & social media reports are circulated. The Commission denies the above,” he said.

He described the reports as false, mischievous and motivated.

“It is part of a disinformation campaign and no more,” he said.

According to the schedule that went viral in the social media, the nomination process for MPTC and ZPTC elections begins on September 9 and ends on September 11. Polling would be held on September 21 and counting would take place on September 24.

Similarly, the process for municipal elections would begin on September 11 with nominations to be accepted till September 13. Polling would be held on September 23 and counting of votes would be held on September 27.
