Nithiin, once a bankable star known for his boy-next-door charm and a string of hits, is currently facing one of the most challenging periods of his career. After a series of disappointing films and the lukewarm response to Robinhood alongside Sreeleela, all eyes have now turned to his next project, Yelamma. But instead of the film’s concept or creative vision making headlines, it’s the ongoing struggle to finalize a leading lady that’s drawing attention.
Directed by Balagam fame Venu, a National Award-winning talent, and produced by star producer Dil Raju, Yelamma initially generated strong buzz. The combination of Venu’s critical acclaim and Nithiin’s attempt at a comeback seemed promising. However, as the project moves closer to production, the team is yet to lock its heroine — a delay that’s raising eyebrows across the industry.
Sai Pallavi was the first choice but had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts. Hopes were reignited when Keerthy Suresh was reported to be on board, but recent developments suggest she, too, has exited the project. While her official reason remains a date clash, whispers within the industry suggest that Nithiin’s recent box office slump may have influenced the decision.
Insiders hint at a broader issue: actresses are reportedly cautious about being associated with what is now perceived as a “flop pairing.” Nithiin and Sreeleela’s two consecutive failures have led to hesitation among top heroines, who are wary of the impact such associations might have on their own careers. With the search for the female lead now wide open again, the production team is racing against time to avoid delays in the shooting schedule.
Yelamma carries massive expectations, backed by a respected director and a powerhouse production house. But for Nithiin, much more is at stake. The casting of the female lead could well determine whether this film marks a much-needed turnaround or deepens the downward spiral of his career.
