Social media is abuzz with speculations about a potential box office clash between Mahesh Babu’s SSMB29 and Allu Arjun’s AA22. However, industry insiders clarify that such a clash is highly unlikely, as both films are still a long way from release.
Director SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus with Mahesh Babu is tentatively eyeing a 2027 release. True to his style, Rajamouli is not expected to lock a release date until at least half of the shooting is complete. Mahesh too is said to be in no rush, prioritizing quality over speed.
On the other hand, Allu Arjun’s collaboration with director Atlee is moving at a steady pace. While shooting is progressing, the film demands a lengthy post-production schedule, given its large-scale visuals, multiple leading ladies, and Bunny’s diverse character shades. The makers are likely to chalk out a release plan only by next summer.
Considering the grand scale and pan-India appeal of both projects, trade experts believe that the makers will avoid a direct clash. A minimum two to three-month gap is expected between their releases to maximize reach and box office potential.
For now, the chatter around a Mahesh vs Bunny showdown is just speculative hype. When these films eventually arrive, they will create their own massive moments, without competing head-to-head.
