NTR District: Man Behind Jagan’s Statement

Jagan’s much-hyped statement in Nimmakuru to rename Krishna district as NTR district might have struck a chord with NTR’s die-hard fans and initially considered as a wise, smart move by political analysts, but the ground reality is far away from the above perception.

Districts such as Krishna, Godavari districts are named after rivers that have been significant in flourishing life of people (who are predominantly dependent on agriculture) and has direct connection with rivers.

Krishna district is one such auspicious name. It has been there since ages and so its Pushkaralu that are quite famous. It also has divine connection with Indrakeeladri temple, its deity Goddess Durga.

Jagan’s political decision to gain some votes of Krishna district’s NTR fans and hence Kodali Nani’s master strategy may really not appeal in reality. While initially Jagan was hesitant, it was Gudivada MLA Kodali Nani who convinced Jagan to make such statement by tempting him with the votes of NTR fans and that community.

In fact, Telugu Desam Party that was founded by NTR had promised to rename Gudivada as NTR district if new districts are formed. Taking a leaf out of it, YSRCP’s move to rename entire Krishna district as NTR district may certainly get opposition from majority of district people. TDP has smartly limited its promise only to Gudivada which has Nimmakuru, NTR’s native village.

On the whole, this statement of Jagan in Krishna district may only attract NTR’s hard-core fans. Whereas from others, it may get mixed response.
