NTR Walks Out of Rajamouli’s Phalke Biopic

Ace filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli’s team, headed by his son Karthikeya, had earlier announced an ambitious biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke — the father of Indian cinema — to be made in Hindi and several other languages.

Buzz had suggested that NTR Jr. might step into the shoes of Phalke, while reports also hinted that Aamir Khan and director Rajkumar Hirani were developing a similar project. However, the latest update confirms that NTR has decided to step away from Rajamouli’s project.

Sources say NTR is reluctant to take up a pan-Indian film that isn’t directly helmed by Rajamouli, even if it is presented by him. Furthermore, after the lukewarm response to his Bollywood debut War 2, the actor seems cautious about signing any new Hindi projects and is focusing entirely on Telugu cinema for now.

Currently, NTR is busy shooting for Dragon, directed by Prashanth Neel, which is set to release in June 2026. Once that wraps, he will move on to Trivikram Srinivas’s mythological epic God of War.
