Sai Pallavi Likely to Replace Deepika Padukone in Kalki 2898 AD Sequel
January 29, 2026

Director Nag Ashwin may have found a new actress to replace Bollywood star Deepika Padukone in the highly anticipated sequel to Kalki 2898 AD. Industry sources suggest that Sai Pallavi has emerged as the frontrunner for the role, though the makers have yet to make an official announcement. “Sai Pallavi is a hot contender and is expected to join the project soon, but nothing has been confirmed yet,” a source said.
Sai Pallavi, currently portraying Goddess Sita in Ramayana, has gained massive pan-India appeal, making her a strong fit for the character originally played by Deepika Padukone.
Prabhas’ sci-fi epic Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, captivated audiences with its futuristic elements intertwined with references from the Mahabharata. The sequel, expected to go on floors in the second half of February, will once again feature legends like Kamal Haasan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Prabhas in key roles.
In addition to Kalki 2898 AD, Sai Pallavi is also starring in Ek Din, directed by Sunil Pandey and featuring Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan, slated for release on May 1, 2026. Sources say the makers are confident that Sai Pallavi will do complete justice to the role of Sumati, a character who is pregnant and destined to give birth to Kalki, the final avatar of Lord Vishnu.
While Bollywood actresses like Alia Bhatt are considered strong choices for North Indian audiences, the team reportedly feels Sai Pallavi is the ideal pick for the South Indian market.
