OnePlus’s future appears increasingly uncertain as reports about major internal restructuring continue to surface. Earlier this year, speculation began circulating about a possible shutdown or major downsizing of operations, following high-profile executive exits and signs of reduced activity within the company.
According to recent reports, OnePlus is now said to be merging with Realme, including its operations in China. A tipster known as Digital Chat Station on Weibo (via Android Authority) claims that “OnePlus and Realme have officially merged.” It is suggested that both brands will integrate their China and global operations under a new internal structure referred to as a “sub-product centre.”
As part of this restructuring, OnePlus and Realme may also combine their marketing and customer service divisions, creating a unified operational framework. Reports further indicate that Pete Lau, co-founder of OnePlus and a senior executive within the broader BBK ecosystem, is expected to oversee the merged smartphone operations.
Other leadership changes are also being reported. Li Jie, president of OnePlus China, may head the product centre, while Wang Wei, former vice president of Realme, is expected to serve as deputy general manager. Realme founder Li Bingzhong is likely to take charge of the overall business, and Xu Qi may handle marketing and service responsibilities for both brands.
With this merger, OnePlus and Realme are expected to increasingly share product platforms, designs, hardware components, and development resources in an effort to reduce costs and streamline operations. For several years, OnePlus has functioned as a sub-brand within Oppo’s ecosystem, while Realme was also brought into a similar structure earlier. The reported deeper integration now raises questions about whether OnePlus will be able to maintain its distinct identity in the premium smartphone segment.
However, it is important to note that neither OnePlus nor Realme has officially confirmed the merger, and the current developments are based on reports and leaks.
