Bettings On Cock Fights Reach New High
Sankranti is synonymous with cockfights in the Coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. Especially in the villages of East Godavari, West Godavari and few parts of Krishna districts, Sankarnati and Cockfights are “inseparable”. Unlike previous years, 2015 Sankranti is witnessing highest-ever bettings. The figures are staggering as the betting money running into crores.
According to an estimation, the total money spent on Cockfights in the three districts for these three days this year is pegged at over Rs 100 Crore. On Sankranti day, a whopping Rs 3 Crore is doled out for just 3 successive Cockfights in a locale in Bhimavaram town. If the case is so in towns, the situation in villages too is no different. NRIs, relatives from various districts, states anxiously participating in the cockfights resulting in placing of heavy bettings.
Thanks to stupendous growth in the real estate amidst setting up of new capital, high profits in aqua, agricultural businesses, which increased the ability to spend high in cockfights. People and leaders are actively participating in them betting big. In addition to this, even cops are unmindful, oblivious to organising cockfights. Although High Court imposed a ban and Supreme Court upheld it and asked to maintain “Status Quo”, it hardly has any affect on the organisers. All in all, the 2015 Sankranti witnessed perhaps the highest-ever betting in cockfights.
Lawyers furious on Gopala Gopala
Venkatesh, Pawan Kalyan’s Gopala Gopala directed by Dolly is entertaining movie lovers on the eve of Sankranthi releasing approximately a week back.
The film which is a remake of Bollywood hit Oh My God is also having its share of controversies. According to the latest lawyers today complained against the film alleging that the film has many scenes which hurt the sentiments of lawyers and insulting their profession.
In their complaint lodged at Saroornagar Police Station, lawyers requested police to stop screening of the film till the filmmakers delete the objectionable scenes. Many lawyers alleged that the scenes targeting lawyers bring down the morale of the lawyers.
On the day of film release itself Raghunadha Rao lodged complaint at Saifabad police station alleging the film hurt the sentiments of Hindus.
Only Petty Competition For Nandamuri Hero
Both the biggies ‘Gopala Gopala’ and ‘I’ have already released and that paved way for Nandamuri Kalyanram to come at any time he likes to. His ‘Pataas’ is ready for release long back but the release hasn’t happened as planned on January 9th or 14th. Finally, the movie is arriving on January 23rd only to check out Nandamuri hero’s fortunes.
In fact, the effect of Pawan Kalyan and Venky’s satirical comedy, and Shankar’s fantasy entertainer will not last that long. As ‘Gopala Gopala’ received only a regular applause and ‘I’ got average to negative talk, January 23rd will be a big date for ‘Pataas’ to amass terrific openings. If we have to talk about other competition, hero Sundeep Kishan’s ‘Beeruva’ and a debutante director PB Manjuanth’s ‘Ladies and Gentelmen’ are in the race. This is just a petty competition for Kalyan Ram as this Nandamuri hero will bag most number of theatres for this cop-action-comedy’s release.
January 15th marks ‘her’ comeback
January 15th and this day marks the comeback of former beauty queen and timeless beauty Aishwarya Rai Bachhan to silver screen after a four year hiatus. Post the birth of her daughter Aaradhya, she hasn’t taken any cinema assignment and finally she is wearing grease paint again from today for Sanjay Gupta’s ‘Jazbaa’.
Already Aish has lost oodles of weight in the last couple of months to look fit for the role. As she will be performing loads of stunts in the movie, a special stunt training was given to her in the last few months. Along with Aish, talented Shabana Azmi also features in the movie. Director Sanjay Gupta revealed that they will shoot at a stretch from January 15th to the middle of April such that film will be wrapped up in a single schedule. Anyway, welcome to shooting-spot Aish!!!
Shankar’s I – What Is Bollywood Saying?
Despite being a near 100 crore budgeted flick, Shankar’s “I” garnered somewhat negative talk in many centres across Tamilnadu and Telugu states. What is Bollywood saying about this flick then? As the visual effects in the movie are of international standard, surely Bollywood expects something aboriginal and innovative. Here’s what some critics from b-town felt about “I”.
“I is not just about Imagination and Indulgence, but there is lot of Incorrectness too. Though it is enjoyable mostly, there are lot of overtones with run of the mill old-school points on LGBT community and virginity”, a critic said. However, youngsters felt that “though computer graphics are advanced and took “I” to next level, mindset of our directors is not advancing. Still, desi films sound like desi films only”.
Some people compared Rajamouli’s Makki (Eega Hindi version) and I, and stated that when anyone could enjoy Makki why not I? “Both have known stories, predictable plots and yet quality visual effects”, they added. On a whole I received applause for its efforts from critics like an old wine in new bottle, but we need to see what collections will say.
Telugu Celebs “Deal” With Gods
Whatever the movie maybe, whatever the characters our heroes play including throwing punches on God itself, visiting a God and taking his blessing are a must for Telugu biggies.
After calling her heroine as a selfish girl for seeking help of God for her well-being but never looks after God’s well-being in the movie ‘Businessman’, even Superstar Mahesh visits famous Ajmer Sharif and Kadapa Dargah many times just before the release of his movie. After the release of his movies, producer Dil Raju visits Tirupathi and gets his hair shaven.
None other than Pawan Kalyan, the man who looks more practical but less spiritual, visited Simhachala and Tirumala in a day to pray God for a mega victory with Gabbar Singh. Also producer Bandla Ganesh and director Vinayak visits various temples all the time for their film’s successes. Okay, making ‘deal’ with gods is no wrong.
