Vijay CM Swearing-In Delayed Amid Majority Confusion in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu politics has drawn significant national attention as actor-turned-politician Vijay is reportedly preparing to take charge as the next Chief Minister of the state. However, the process is facing certain procedural hurdles before the swearing-in can take place.

According to developments, Vijay recently met the Tamil Nadu Governor and conveyed his intent to form the government. He also submitted a letter of support claiming backing from MLAs.

At present, Vijay’s party, TVK, is said to have the support of 107 MLAs in the Assembly. However, to cross the majority mark and form the government, he requires additional support to reach the required number. Congress, which holds 5 MLAs, is reported to have extended support, but Vijay still needs a few more legislators to secure a comfortable majority.

While TVK has emerged as the single largest party in the state, the Governor is reportedly not fully satisfied with the current numbers and has asked for a clearer demonstration of absolute majority before inviting Vijay to form the government with 118 MLAs on his side.

This has led to a delay in the swearing-in process, creating an unusual political situation at the Raj Bhavan. Vijay was expected to take oath as Chief Minister soon, but the ceremony now appears uncertain depending on the Governor’s decision.

Political observers describe the situation as tense and somewhat chaotic. Many also argue that the established democratic convention is to invite the single largest party to form the government and prove majority on the floor of the House, rather than pre-emptively delaying the process.

For now, all eyes remain on the Governor’s next move, as Tamil Nadu awaits clarity on whether Vijay’s swearing-in will proceed as planned or face further delay.
