A.R. Rahman Makes a Strong Comeback in Telugu Cinema

Share

For decades, A.R. Rahman has been one of India’s most celebrated composers, dominating Tamil and Hindi cinema while earning national honours and even Academy Awards. Yet, his direct involvement in Telugu cinema has been limited. While many of his dubbed songs became popular among Telugu audiences, original Telugu projects under his composition have been comparatively few.

Industry observers point to multiple reasons. Some feel Rahman preferred selective collaborations, while others note that Telugu filmmakers and the composer did not always find the right creative alignment. As a result, major Tollywood projects rarely featured him, with Rahman continuing to focus on ventures elsewhere and scaling new professional heights.

The scenario, however, appears to be changing. With Telugu cinema expanding nationally and globally, budget constraints are no longer a concern. Producers increasingly recognize the commercial value of strong music, including its streaming and promotional impact. The song “Chikiri…” from Peddi demonstrated how a single hit track could significantly boost pre-release buzz.

Filmmakers are now approaching Rahman again, but his approach remains consistent: remuneration alone does not decide his projects. He chooses ventures based on story strength, creative chemistry, and meaningful collaborations. Rahman also holds a strong position regarding the music rights; audio rights sold under his name can reportedly fetch over ₹15 crore, even without a major star cast. This makes collaborations highly lucrative, not only for him but also for brand-conscious filmmakers. After all, who wouldn’t want to work with A.R. Rahman?

Ram Charan and Upasana Name Their Twins Shivram & Anveera Devi

Actor Ram Charan and his wife Upasana Konidela have revealed the names of their newborn twins, a boy and a girl, following a traditional naamkaran ceremony at their Hyderabad residence. Born on January 31, the twins were named Shivram and Anveera Devi during the ceremony held on February 11.

The couple are already parents to their daughter, Klin Kaara Konidela, who was born on June 20, 2023. Ram Charan and Upasana, married since June 2012, celebrated the ceremony in a traditional manner with pooja rituals, attended by close family and friends.

Superstar Chiranjeevi, the proud grandfather, had announced the birth of the twins on social media a day after they were born. According to Variety India, the names were carefully chosen after consultations with family elders. Ram Charan explained that the naming was deeply personal and spiritual.

The name Shivram combines Lord Shiva and Lord Rama, while also honoring Ram Charan’s grandfather, Shiv Shankar Vara Prasad. Their daughter’s name, Anveera Devi, blends “Veera,” symbolizing bravery, with “An,” meaning limitless, while “Devi” reflects feminine strength. Ram Charan described the names as expressions of the couple’s aspirations for strength, love, and courage.

The couple revealed that the twins were delivered in the same room where Kaara was born, and their birth date and time were chosen in consultation with an astrologer. Upasana remained active with work until the final days of her pregnancy, not taking maternity leave prior to delivery.

Fans and well-wishers have warmly received the announcement, flooding social media with congratulatory messages for the growing Konidela family.

VK Naresh Sparks Laughter with ‘Hug Day’ Satire at Hey Bhagawan Launch

Share

Senior actor VK Naresh, known for his witty satires at public events, also has a knack for insightful observations about people. At the trailer launch of Hey Bhagawan today, Naresh celebrated ‘Hug Day’ on stage by hugging all the male celebrities present. However, things got interesting when it came to the female stars.

Naresh remarked that heroine Shivani Nagaram and anchor Sravanthi Chokarapu were dressed in sarees, and therefore he wouldn’t hug them. “After a recent incident, many female celebrities have been seen wearing only sarees at movie events. Since sarees represent Indian culture, and as per our traditions we don’t hug other women, you two hug each other,” he said, prompting laughter from the audience.

Some wondered if Naresh was taking a subtle dig at Sivaji’s earlier comments about actresses wearing sarees in public, or if he was playfully teasing Sravanthi, who had mentioned that she started wearing sarees after Sivaji’s remarks. Whatever the case, the audience enjoyed the humor and appreciated Naresh’s blend of satire and wit.

Arjun Sarja Returns as Director with Seetha Payanam

Share

Action King Arjun Sarja returns as director and producer with Seetha Payanam, a heartfelt drama starring Niranjan and Aishwarya Arjun. Produced under the Shri Ram Films International banner, the film is set to release on February 14 and aims to resonate with audiences across regions.

Arjun revealed that launching Aishwarya in Telugu was a conscious choice. “The industry and the Telugu audience have given me unconditional love. I wanted her first step to be here,” he said. He added that the role was initially considered for Vishwak Sen, but the script remained unchanged when Niranjan joined. “There are no differences. Life comes full circle. We may collaborate again.”

Describing the film, Arjun said it is more than just a romance. “Seetha Payanam is layered with emotions—family, love, responsibility, and even patriotism in its own way.” While action elements are included, they are grounded in the story, and Anup Rubens’ music enhances the film’s emotional depth.

Arjun shared that the idea for the film has been with him for 13 years. “I wanted a meaningful story to introduce my daughter. Every character here has purpose and weight,” he said, promising strong performances from both Aishwarya and Niranjan. He also highlighted a unique father–daughter emotion portrayed in the film, which he believes audiences will deeply connect with.

The censor board responded with unexpected emotion, granting the film a clean U certificate. Looking ahead, Arjun is leaning more toward direction, with an upcoming full-action film in the works. He also expressed interest in making Hanuman Junction 2, provided a solid script emerges.

Arjun fondly recalled Powerstar Pawan Kalyan’s presence at the pooja ceremony. “He said he’d stay for five minutes but ended up staying three hours. His honesty is rare,” Arjun said, calling the moment memorable for his family.

Vishwak Sen, Anudeep, and Kayadu Lohar Pin Hopes on Funky

Share

Tomorrow is set to be a crucial day for Vishwak Sen, director Anudeep, and heroine Kayadu Lohar as their new film Funky hits the screens. Much depends on its performance.

Vishwak Sen has faced a string of box office setbacks in recent years and hasn’t delivered a major blockbuster in almost five years. At the pre-release event, he openly thanked Anudeep for offering him Funky during a low phase in his career, noting that the film arrived at the perfect time.

His previous films, including Laila, Mechanic Rocky, and Gangs of Godavari, failed to impress audiences, with Laila drawing particularly harsh criticism. Gaami was his last moderately successful release, but he is still searching for that big hit to truly bounce back. While Vishwak is undeniably talented, he needs a commercially successful film, and Funky seems to fall perfectly into his comfort zone, potentially serving as the turning point.

For Kayadu Lohar, the film is equally significant. Her first Telugu outing failed to make an impact, and she went largely unnoticed. Funky presents her with a major opportunity to prove her talent and capitalize on her growing popularity.

Director Anudeep also has a lot at stake. While he is celebrated for his fun, witty style, he needs to prove that he is not a one-film wonder following Jathi Ratnalu. In today’s cinema landscape, films cannot rely solely on one-liners; audiences expect a balance of comedy and substance. If Anudeep succeeds in delivering sharp humor with Funky, he could carve a strong niche for himself.

The box office window looks open for Funky, and positive word of mouth could make all the difference for the trio. Will it succeed? Only time will tell.

Dil Raju Responds to ₹120 Crore Toxic Theatrical Rights Rumors

Share

The team of Toxic, starring Yash, has been generating buzz by claiming that the film’s business deals have been closed for “record amounts.” However, social media users quickly questioned these claims.

Recently, reports circulated that renowned producer Dil Raju had acquired the theatrical rights for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for a staggering ₹120 crore. Considering that Yash’s previous blockbuster, KGF 2, earned around ₹70 crore in the AP–Telangana region, many wondered how an experienced distributor like Dil Raju would pay nearly ₹50 crore more for Toxic.

When journalists approached Dil Raju for clarification, he stated that he would provide proof of the ₹120 crore deal to the media after transferring the amount to the producer. Observers noted that his response seemed diplomatic, as he neither directly confirmed nor denied the reported figure.

Nara Lokesh Launches Dinner Meetings to Strengthen TDP Influence

Share

In a move seen as consolidating his influence within the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and paving the way for his potential succession as party leader, general secretary and state IT minister Nara Lokesh has launched a new political initiative.

Starting Thursday, Lokesh has begun hosting dinner meetings with party MLAs and their families. While the party officially says the meetings aim to strengthen coordination between the party and the government, sources suggest the primary purpose is to solidify Lokesh’s position within the party.

According to party leaders, Lokesh plans to meet seven MLAs from each parliamentary constituency daily for dinner, along with their family members. “This initiative provides a platform for direct interaction, allowing Lokesh to understand constituency-level issues firsthand and work toward solutions,” a party leader explained.

The meetings are intended to let MLAs discuss local challenges, development priorities, and public concerns directly with Lokesh. Including family members is seen as an effort to build personal rapport and foster goodwill toward party leadership.

While the programme is officially described as a governance and coordination effort, observers note it is also part of a broader political strategy to enhance internal cohesion, address any dissatisfaction within the party, and unify leaders under a common leadership. Strengthening personal relationships with MLAs and their families is viewed as a key step to ensure a smoother leadership transition and reinforce Lokesh’s influence in the TDP.

Udit Narayan Faces Controversy Over Wife’s Allegations

Veteran singer Udit Narayan, whose song Meesala Pilla continues to trend on the charts, is now facing a serious controversy.

His first wife, Ranjana Narayan Jha, has alleged that Udit was involved in a criminal conspiracy that led to the removal of her uterus without her consent. She filed a complaint on February 10 at the Women’s Police Station in Supaul district, Bihar.

Ranjana named Udit’s two brothers and his second wife, Deepa Narayan, in the complaint, claiming that all were present during the procedure. She revealed that she only learned about the incident years later during a medical examination. Ranjana further stated that she is currently unwell and accused Udit of failing to provide support despite repeated assurances.

Earlier, Ranjana had filed a maintenance case against Udit Narayan. The matter has also drawn the attention of the National Human Rights Commission and the Bihar Human Rights Commission, which noted that Udit’s second marriage could be invalid under the Hindu Marriage Act if no legal divorce occurred.
