Maruthi vs Harish Shankar: Contrasting Reactions to Box Office Flops

Telugu cinema has long been known for producing some of the most talented directors in the Indian film industry. However, it also has its share of filmmakers who occasionally appear disconnected from audience expectations, facing criticism when their films fail to resonate.
A recent comparison between directors Maruthi and Harish Shankar has sparked discussion about how filmmakers respond to box office setbacks. Both entered the year with strong expectations surrounding their respective films The Raja Saab and Ustaad Bhagat Singh, which were promoted as mass entertainers aimed at reviving the vintage appeal of stars Prabhas and Pawan Kalyan.
Despite the hype, the audience response fell short of expectations, and both films struggled to perform at the box office. What has drawn attention is not just the failure itself, but the contrasting ways the two directors handled it afterward.
Maruthi appears to have taken a quieter approach, acknowledging the setback indirectly and maintaining a low profile in public discussions. His silence is being interpreted as acceptance of the audience verdict and a focus on moving ahead without extending the debate.
In contrast, Harish Shankar has continued to strongly defend his work, maintaining that Ustaad Bhagat Singh stands among his best films, despite widespread criticism. This firm stance has created a visible gap between audience perception and the filmmaker’s narrative.
The situation highlights an important industry reality—while creative conviction is essential, aligning with audience sentiment plays a crucial role in sustaining long-term credibility. In many cases, accepting failure gracefully may help preserve reputation more effectively than resisting public opinion.
Ram Charan’s Peddi Eyes Big Boost in Hindi Market

Peddi, starring Ram Charan, appears to have a strong opportunity in the Hindi market if it sticks to its planned release schedule. With Jio Studios acquiring the Hindi distribution rights, the film is strategically placed for a wide release across North India.
The Hindi belt has become increasingly important for South Indian big-budget films, often playing a decisive role in box office success. If the content connects well with audiences, it has the potential to draw strong theatre footfalls, a trend seen with several recent pan-India hits.
For Peddi, one of the key advantages is the absence of major Bollywood releases around its expected release window. By the time the film arrives in theatres, the buzz around Dhurandhar is likely to settle, giving Peddi a clearer run at the box office.
Adding to its advantage, Raja Shivaji, also backed by Jio Studios and slated for a May 1 release, is not expected to create internal competition, ensuring better screen allocation and support across regions.
However, timing remains crucial. Any delay in release could bring Peddi face-to-face with big Hindi releases scheduled for June and July, potentially affecting its box office prospects. The makers are reportedly keen on locking the current release date.
For now, Peddi is well-positioned to make a strong impact in the Hindi market, with all eyes on whether the team can fully capitalize on this favourable release window.
Samantha Ruth Prabhu on Women Empowerment and Equality in Cinema

Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently shared powerful thoughts on women’s empowerment and equality in the film industry during an event hosted by The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Industry. She spoke candidly about the challenges women face in both personal and professional spaces, emphasizing the need for greater recognition and fairness.
Samantha highlighted how women often tend to adjust their ambitions, opinions, and even personal choices to keep others comfortable. She noted that many women do this so naturally that they may not even realize the extent of their sacrifices. She also pointed out that women tend to apologize far more frequently than men, reflecting deeply rooted social conditioning.
Encouraging change, she urged women to stop downplaying themselves and to confidently own their achievements. “You deserve to take up the space you have earned. Credit is not a bad word. Ambition is not a character flaw,” she said, adding that accepting compliments with a simple “thank you” is not arrogance, but self-respect.
She also expressed her vision for the future of cinema, hoping that women-led stories will no longer be treated as a separate category or a risk. Instead, she wants them to be seen simply as stories—without labels or bias.
Samantha further emphasized the importance of portraying women on screen in a more authentic and layered way, reflecting their real-life complexity rather than limiting them to supporting roles. She also spoke about equality behind the scenes, saying that women negotiating contracts should become a normal, unremarkable occurrence rather than headline news.
On safety in the industry, she stressed that it should be a basic standard rather than an occasional discussion. Meanwhile, on the work front, Samantha is currently focused on upcoming projects like Maa Inti Bangaram and Rakt Brahmand: The Bloody Kingdom.
Trump’s Signature to Appear on Future U.S. Currency

The U.S. Treasury Department has announced that President Donald J. Trump’s signature will appear on future American paper currency, marking a historic first for the nation. This development comes as the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, also known as the Semiquincentennial.
According to the Treasury Department, Trump’s signature will be featured alongside that of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on newly issued currency in the coming period. Officials said the move reflects both the milestone anniversary and the administration’s economic vision.
“Inspired by President Trump’s leadership, we are moving toward unprecedented economic growth, lasting dollar dominance, and greater fiscal strength and stability,” said Bessent. He added that featuring Trump’s name on U.S. currency is a fitting tribute during this historic national celebration.
Traditionally, U.S. banknotes carry the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and the Treasurer, but not those of a sitting president. The new decision marks a notable departure from this long-standing practice.
Treasurer Brandon Beach also supported the move, stating that as the 250th anniversary approaches, American currency should symbolize prosperity, strength, and national pride. He further noted that Trump’s role in shaping the country’s economic direction makes the recognition appropriate.
However, the Treasury Department has not yet confirmed when the redesigned notes will be released or which denominations will feature the new signatures.
Kharg Island Tensions: US-Iran Military Escalation Report

Amid rising geopolitical tensions, reports suggest that Iran is preparing for a potential threat involving Kharg Island, while US officials are reportedly considering whether ground forces could be deployed in the region. According to Reuters, the Trump administration is evaluating military options, including the possible deployment of Marine contingents near the area by the end of the month, with additional airborne forces being positioned to expand operational flexibility.
Earlier, US forces carried out strikes in mid-March on targets linked to Kharg Island, after which Donald Trump claimed that key military assets were “totally obliterated.” He also indicated that Iran’s oil infrastructure—previously left untouched—could be considered in future actions.
Kharg Island holds strategic importance for Iran, as it is responsible for handling nearly 90% of the country’s oil exports. Located in deep waters suitable for large tankers, the island plays a crucial role in Iran’s energy trade. Any disruption to its operations, especially amid instability in the Strait of Hormuz, could severely impact global oil supply chains and significantly pressure Iran’s economy.
However, analysts warn that a potential seizure of Kharg Island would not be a straightforward victory for the US. While it could be achieved relatively quickly, it may also expose American troops to prolonged conflict, missile attacks, and drone warfare, potentially escalating rather than ending the confrontation.
Experts from the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, Ryan Brobst and Cameron McMillan, noted that occupying the island is more likely to extend the conflict than deliver a decisive outcome, citing risks from advanced drone warfare and sustained military resistance.
Former US Central Command commander Joseph Votel also highlighted that even a small deployment of around 800 to 1,000 troops would require extensive logistical support and protection.
Ultimately, while control of Kharg Island could give the US leverage over Iran’s oil exports and potentially pressure the Strait of Hormuz, it could also trigger wider regional instability, increased maritime risks, and a deeper, more prolonged conflict.

Delhi High Court Moves to Protect Mohanlal’s Personality Rights

The Delhi High Court on Friday indicated that it is likely to issue interim directions to protect the personality rights of Malayalam actor Mohanlal. Justice Jyoti Singh, while hearing the matter, also allowed the actor’s application to implead additional defendants in the case.
Earlier, the Court had permitted Mohanlal to withdraw his interim plea with liberty to file a revised application containing clearer and more specific details. During the proceedings, the Court directed the actor to submit a note listing the allegedly infringing links to the defendants.
The case is part of a growing number of similar petitions before the Delhi High Court, where several public figures—including actors, sportspersons, journalists, and spiritual leaders—have sought legal protection of their personality rights against unauthorized use of their name, image, voice, and likeness.
Mohanlal is among the latest celebrities to approach the Court, joining a wider trend of public figures seeking safeguards against digital misuse and commercial exploitation of their identity.
In response, courts have increasingly been granting interim injunctions to prevent such violations, particularly across advertisements, online platforms, and digital content. Legal experts note that although personality rights are not governed by a single codified law in India, they are steadily being shaped through judicial precedents, especially in cases involving technology-driven misuse.
