Vineet Kumar Singh-starrer ‘Match Fixing’ to now release on Jan 17

The upcoming movie ‘Match Fixing’, which stars Vineet Kumar Singh, is set to release in theatres on January 17, 2025.
The film was originally scheduled for November 15. However, it’s release has been delayed due to legal cases. One of them was a petition filed in the NIA court by an individual involved in the Malegaon Blast case who raised concerns that the film might influence perceptions of his ongoing trial.
In response, the makers of the film clarified that the film is not related to the Malegaon case at all. The producer clarified that the film draws inspiration from the book ‘The Game Behind Saffron Terror’ authored by retired Colonel Kanwar Khatana, published in the year 2020.
The book explores a narrative of alleged political conspiracies and cross-border intrigue involving intelligence agencies of India and Pakistan.
Producer of the film, Pallavi Gurjar said in a statement, “This film isn’t about the Malegaon case. It’s a broader look at a series of attacks in the early 2000s and the potential political dynamics shaping public perception. We respect the judicial process and have taken care to ensure that this film does not interfere with the Malegaon case currently before the court”.
Director Kedaar Gaekwad shared, “Ideating and executing this project has been very challenging for our team. We have approached the subject with both responsibility and sensitivity without taking unnecessary creative liberties”.
As per Kedaar, the film aims to offer a fresh perspective on the narrative around terrorism in India, tracing a series of events that culminated in the tragic and dastardly 26/11 terror attacks, which is one of the bloodiest terror attacks in modern history.
The film also stars Anuja Sathe and Manoj Joshi.
It is produced by Pallavi Gurjar under Artarena Creations Private Limited.

India’s CO2 emissions account 8pc of global total, to rise by 4.6pc in 2024

New Delhi, Nov 13 (IANS) India accounts for per cent of the global total carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and it is expected to increase by 4.6 per cent in 2024, according to a new report released on Wednesday, ahead of the UN climate conference in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The report by Global Carbon Project, involving an international team of more than 120 scientists, showed that global carbon emissions from fossil fuels have reached a record high in 2024 — 37.4 billion tonnes in 2024, up 0.8 per cent from 2023 levels.
The report led by the University of Exeter showed “there is ‘no sign’ that the world has reached a peak in fossil CO2 emissions”. This is despite the urgent need to cut emissions to slow climate change.
It showed that emissions from coal are expected to rise by 0.2 per cent; oil by 0.9 per cent; and gas by 2.4 per cent.
China’s emissions — which account for 32 per cent of the global total — are projected to marginally increase by 0.2 per cent, while US emissions (which account for 13 per cent of the global total) are projected to decrease by 0.6 per cent.
Notably, emissions from the European Union (accounting for 7 per cent of the global total) will decrease by 3.8 per cent.
Emissions in the rest of the world (accounting for 38 per cent of the global total) are projected to increase by 1.1 per cent, said the report, published in the journal Earth System Science Data.
Currently, more than 40 billion tonnes of CO2 emissions are released each year. This is increasing the level of CO2 in the atmosphere — driving increasingly dangerous global warming.
“Time is running out to meet the Paris Agreement goals,” said Professor Pierre Friedlingstein, from the University of Exeter’s Global Systems Institute, who led the study.
He called on world leaders meeting at the upcoming COP29 to “bring about rapid and deep cuts to fossil fuel emissions”, which will help the world to stay well below 2 degrees Celsius warming above pre-industrial levels.
This study estimates the remaining “carbon budget” before the 1.5 degrees Celsius target is breached consistently over multiple years, not just for a single year. At the current rate of emissions, the Global Carbon Budget team estimates a 50 per cent chance global warming will exceed 1.5 degrees Celsius consistently in about six years.

India sends 15 tonnes of humanitarian aid to floods-hit Nigeria

India sent 15 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Nigeria on Thursday to assist the west African country in dealing with the impact of devastating floods that left hundreds of people dead.In addition to this, India also announced another 60 tonnes of assistance to the African nation.
Taking to X, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “Committed to Humanitarian Assistance. India dispatched 15 tonnes of aid to Nigeria to provide support to those affected by the devastating floods in the country. A further assistance of 60 tonnes of aid will be sent in due course.”
“The aid comprises food, sleeping mats, blankets, water purification supplies and other relief items,” the MEA post added.
At least 321 people have been killed and over 740,000 others displaced in Nigeria so far this year due to the floods that ravaged most parts of the country.
In addition, some 2,854 people have been injured in the flooding, caused mainly by prolonged rainfall across the most populous African country, said Chukwuma Soludo, Governor of the southeastern state of Anambra, after a monthly National Economic Council meeting presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
“The country is facing a national emergency concerning flooding and the reports so far identify a major national disaster,” as the rains have led to widespread displacement, loss of lives, and destruction of homes and livelihoods, Soludo had said, citing briefings at the Economic Council meeting.
The senior official had also mentioned that 34 out of Nigeria’s 36 states have experienced flooding, and 217 out of the 774 local government areas in the country have been affected. The ravaging flood has displaced at least 740,743 people and destroyed or affected 281,000 houses and 258,000 cultivated farmlands.
Additionally, the UN agencies appealed for lifesaving support in Nigeria, where record inflation, climate shocks, and ongoing conflicts are projected to push the number of food-insecure people to 33 million in 2025.
Canada confirms first domestically acquired human case of H5N1 bird flu

Ottawa, Nov 14 (IANS) The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) confirmed the first domestically acquired human case of H5N1 avian influenza in Canada.
A teenager in British Columbia was hospitalised and tested presumptive positive for H5 avian influenza on November 9, and was later confirmed to have been infected with the H5N1 virus on Wednesday, PHAC said in a statement.
The genomic sequencing result indicated that the virus is related to the avian influenza H5N1 virus from the ongoing outbreak in poultry in British Columbia, said PHAC, adding that no other human infections have been detected so far, and investigation is underway to determine how the individual got infected.
While there is an ongoing H5N1 outbreak in dairy cattle in the United States, no cases of avian influenza have been reported in dairy cattle in Canada, and there has been no evidence of bird flu virus in milk samples, reports Xinhua news agency.
Furthermore, the clade of H5N1 virus detected in dairy cattle in the United States differed from that found in the human case reported in British Columbia, PHAC said.
Based on current evidence, the risk of avian influenza infection for the public remains low. The risk of bird flu infection is higher for those who have unprotected exposure to infected animals, PHAC said.
