Dhurandhar 2’s Massive Impact on March Bollywood Releases

Share

The phenomenal success of Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, and Sara Arjun, has left Bollywood buzzing. With the film already crossing ₹1,100 crores at the box office, expectations for Dhurandhar 2, slated for a March release, are sky-high. Industry insiders speculate that if the first installment has surpassed Baahubali 2’s collections and is poised to challenge KGF 2, the sequel could be a game-changer.

This has raised concerns among trade experts, distributors, and exhibitors about the potential impact on other major March releases, particularly Yash’s Toxic and Ram Charan’s Peddi. There are calls for these films to consider adjusting their release dates to avoid clashing with Dhurandhar 2, ideally spacing releases by at least a month. While this could benefit Bollywood audiences, it may not align with the regional release strategies in Kannada and Telugu markets. The coming weeks will reveal whether Toxic and Peddi stick to their original schedules or adapt in response to the Dhurandhar 2 phenomenon.

Maruthi’s Raja Saab Comment Sparks Fan Backlash Ahead of Sankranthi 2026

Share

Director Maruthi is leaving no stone unturned in promoting his upcoming directorial, The Raja Saab, starring Superstar Prabhas, one of the most anticipated films of the Sankranthi 2026 season. While he aims to project the film as a grand-scale project with a strong narrative, some of his recent comments during an interview have sparked debate among fans and cinephiles.

Maruthi revealed that The Raja Saab took three years to complete because he had to craft a “big story” to match Prabhas’ larger-than-life image. “If there is any other star involved, you could have wrapped the film like a parcel (Potlam). But with Prabhas, we needed a solid story, and that takes time,” he said, highlighting the effort invested in creating a blockbuster-ready narrative.

However, the statement did not sit well with many fans, who felt it was unnecessarily dismissive of other actors and filmmakers. Critics noted that cinema is a collaborative art, and success relies heavily on content, not just star power. Social media quickly turned Maruthi’s comments into memes, questioning both the remark and his own filmography.

While The Raja Saab promises to be a visual spectacle and a major release for the Sankranthi season, Maruthi’s words serve as a reminder that promotion needs to balance confidence with respect for the wider industry.

Telugu Movies Dominate USA Advance Sales: Kalki 2898 AD, Pushpa 2, OG Lead the Chart

Share

The USA premieres advance sales figures, tracked seven days before release, clearly highlight the growing dominance of Telugu cinema in overseas markets. The numbers not only reflect star power but also underline how Telugu films have become a major force in the North American box office even before release.

Topping the list is Kalki 2898 AD, which has collected an impressive $1.66 million from 3,278 shows across the USA. Starring Prabhas and directed by Nag Ashwin, the ambitious sci-fi epic generated massive anticipation due to its futuristic setting and scale, making it the strongest advance performer.

Close behind is Pushpa 2: The Rule, which earned around $1.6 million from 3,585 shows. Allu Arjun, under the direction of Sukumar, continues to enjoy immense popularity in the US, and the blockbuster success of Pushpa: The Rise significantly boosted the sequel’s pre-release demand.

Next is OG, collecting $1.56 million from just 1,861 shows. Starring Pawan Kalyan and directed by Sujeeth, the film’s strong numbers despite fewer shows highlight the actor’s highly loyal overseas fan base.

Very close is Devara, which garnered $1.55 million from 1,804 shows. Featuring Jr NTR and directed by Koratala Siva, the film benefited greatly from Jr NTR’s expanded global recognition following RRR.

Salaar recorded $755K from 1,279 shows. With Prabhas in the lead and Prashanth Neel at the helm, the film carried strong momentum driven by its intense action and KGF-style mass appeal.

Further down the list, Game Changer collected $414K. Starring Ram Charan and directed by Shankar, the film attracted attention for its political backdrop and the combination of a top Telugu star with a celebrated Tamil filmmaker.

The Raja Saab earned $331K, with Prabhas once again in the spotlight and Maruthi directing. Curiosity surrounding the film’s genre mix played a key role in its advance bookings.

From Bollywood, War 2 brought in $246K. Starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR, and directed by Ayan Mukerji, the film is gradually building momentum as promotions pick up.

Finally, Hari Hara Veera Mallu collected $190K in advance sales. Led by Pawan Kalyan and directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, the period drama is expected to see stronger growth closer to its release.

Overall, these advance sales figures firmly establish Telugu cinema as a dominant player in the US market. With massive pre-release traction, overseas audiences have become crucial to the commercial success of Indian films, especially big-budget Telugu releases.

Sharwanand’s Nari Nari Naduma Murari Builds Festive Buzz Ahead of Sankranthi Release

Share

Charming Star Sharwanand is all set to entertain audiences with his highly anticipated family entertainer Nari Nari Naduma Murari, which has been creating strong buzz ever since its announcement. Aimed squarely at family audiences, the film promises a fresh take on new-age romance blended with wholesome comedy.

The story revolves around Sharwanand’s character, who is on the verge of marriage when an unexpected twist occurs—he comes face to face with his ex-girlfriend at his workplace. What follows is a series of hilarious situations, emotional moments, and engaging drama that form the crux of the narrative. Adding to the curiosity are the two leading ladies, Samyuktha and Sakshi Vaidya, whose roles are said to play a crucial part in driving the fun-filled storyline.

Directed by Ram Abbaraju, who earlier scored a success with Samajavaragamana, the film has already impressed audiences with its teaser and songs. Taking the excitement a notch higher, the makers unveiled Sharwanand’s special traditional-look poster on New Year’s Day, showcasing him in a festive avatar with effortless charm and dapper swag.

Presented by Anil Sunkara and produced by Kishore Garikapati and Rambharamam Sunkara, Nari Nari Naduma Murari is gearing up for a grand Sankranthi release. The film is slated to hit theatres worldwide on January 14 at 5:49 PM, and expectations are high for it to emerge as another blockbuster in Sharwanand’s career during the festive season.

Shambhala Leads Telugu Box Office on New Year Eve

Share

Despite the festive distractions of New Year’s Eve, Telugu audiences once again proved their unwavering love for cinema, as theatres across regions witnessed healthy footfalls and strong advance bookings. The holiday mood did little to slow down moviegoers, with multiple Telugu releases recording encouraging numbers at the box office.

Leading the race among the current releases is Shambhala, which emerged as the clear frontrunner with an impressive 47,000 tickets booked on BookMyShow. This significant lead over its contemporaries reflects the film’s growing popularity, aided by positive word-of-mouth and strong social media buzz. The favourable audience response has helped Shambhala maintain a firm grip at the box office, especially during a competitive holiday window.

Trailing behind, Champion managed to register 17,350 tickets booked, while Akhanda 2 followed closely with 15,540 tickets. Although Akhanda 2 lags in numbers, the film continues to generate curiosity among viewers, suggesting a loyal audience base that could support steady footfalls in the coming days.

With major Sankranthi releases yet to hit the screens, trade analysts believe Shambhala is well-positioned to sustain its advantage in the short term. Open screens and the absence of high-voltage competition are likely to work in its favour. However, the real test will begin once festive biggies enter the race, making it crucial to see how long Shambhala can hold onto its momentum at the box office.

Tollywood Eyes Pan-India Comeback in 2026 After Disappointing 2025

Share

After enjoying a remarkable post-pandemic run at the pan-India box office, Tollywood faced a rare setback in 2025, as several highly anticipated big-ticket films failed to connect with audiences beyond the Telugu states. While movies like OG and Sankranti Ki Vastunnam managed to cross the ₹300 crore mark, much-hyped pan-India ventures such as Game Changer and Akhanda 2 underperformed significantly in North India. In contrast, Bollywood stole the spotlight with unexpected blockbusters like Chhaava, Saiyaara, and the breakout hit Dhurandhar, firmly dominating the Indian box office.

Interestingly, even Kollywood managed to place a film in the elite ₹500 crore club with Rajinikanth’s Coolie, despite the film being labeled a commercial disappointment. This further highlighted Tollywood’s unusual absence from the pan-India success list in 2025—the only such year since COVID when Telugu cinema failed to deliver a nationwide blockbuster.

However, all eyes are now on 2026, which is shaping up to be one of the most crucial and exciting years for Tollywood in recent times. The year will kick off with Prabhas’ horror-comedy entertainer The Raja Saab, followed by a slate of ambitious pan-India projects carrying massive expectations across markets. Among the most awaited titles are NTR–Neel’s high-octane action drama Dragon (rumoured title), Ram Charan’s rustic action film Peddi, Nani’s intense period drama The Paradise, Megastar Chiranjeevi’s long-delayed fantasy spectacle Vishwambhara, and Prabhas’ war drama Fauzi.

Adding further weight to the lineup, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, starring Prabhas, is also expected to release in 2026, though an official date is yet to be announced. Films like Balakrishna’s collaboration with Gopichand Malineni and Nikhil’s ambitious period drama Svayambhu are also aiming squarely at the pan-India audience.

After a disappointing 2025, Tollywood is clearly gearing up for a strong comeback in 2026. With a mix of star power, scale, and diverse storytelling, these big-budget ventures have the potential to reconnect Telugu cinema with audiences across the country and re-establish its dominance on the pan-India box office stage.

Yash’s Toxic: Massive Scale, But Missing Concept Clarity

Share

After the phenomenal success of KGF: Chapter 2, expectations around Yash’s next project were bound to be sky-high. Taking considerable time before announcing his follow-up, Yash finally unveiled Toxic, instantly making it one of the most anticipated Indian films in recent years. As his first release after KGF, the film naturally carries immense curiosity and pressure.

Matching this anticipation, Toxic boasts an amplified scale. The presence of a star-studded ensemble featuring Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, and others underlines the film’s ambition. So far, the promotional material has been visually rich and technically impressive, reflecting a lavish and stylized cinematic world.

However, the major concern lies elsewhere. Despite the sustained buildup and repeated visual elevations, there is still no clear understanding of the film’s core premise. The promotional content released so far has largely focused on aesthetics and mood, offering little insight into the storyline or genre. This lack of narrative clarity could prove costly, especially beyond the initial fan-driven interest.

While Yash’s post-KGF pull may guarantee a strong opening, audiences today expect at least a basic idea of what the film is about. This becomes even more critical considering Toxic is slated to clash with Dhurandhar 2, a pan-Indian box office heavyweight releasing in multiple languages this March.

A relevant comparison can be drawn with Saaho, Prabhas’ immediate release after Baahubali 2. Despite mixed responses, Saaho was clearly positioned as a slick action thriller, which helped it connect strongly with Hindi audiences and generate substantial revenue. Even that level of conceptual positioning is currently missing in Toxic’s campaign.

There is still time for the makers to course-correct. But the immediate need is to communicate the film’s central idea—what Toxic truly stands for beyond its visuals. Ultimately, it falls upon Yash to recognize the stakes and steer the marketing in a direction that offers clarity along with scale.

Raja Saab Gears Up for Big January 9 Release Amid Ticket Price Focus

Share

With just a week to go for its theatrical release, Raja Saab has entered a decisive phase, both in terms of buzz and business. Touted as Tollywood’s first major pan-India release of 2026, the film has generated strong momentum, especially after the trailer significantly raised expectations among fans and trade circles alike.

Starring Prabhas, Raja Saab enjoys a clear advantage with its January 9 release, as there are no major competing films until January 12. Buyers are keen to capitalize on this open window, and industry insiders are confident that the film will register massive opening numbers without facing much resistance at the box office. Director Maruthi has further fueled the excitement by staying active in the media, sharing updates and maintaining steady promotional momentum.

At this crucial juncture, ticket pricing has emerged as the key factor that could influence the film’s opening potential. While Andhra Pradesh is not expected to pose major hurdles, Telangana remains a sensitive area due to recent court-related issues surrounding another big release. As a result, advance planning is vital. Timely legal clearances, government approvals, and permissions for special shows will play a decisive role in ensuring a smooth release.

Producer Vishwaprasad, known for his alertness on business and regulatory matters, is closely monitoring the situation. However, securing the necessary government orders and approvals from the Revanth Reddy-led Telangana government remains critical. The speed and clarity with which these permissions are obtained will largely determine how seamless the release will be in the state.

The broader box-office scenario currently remains dull, with a noticeable absence of star-driven films. While a few recent releases have provided brief relief, weekday occupancies continue to be weak. The industry is now looking at Raja Saab as a potential game-changer that could revive theatre footfalls and bring audiences back in large numbers.

On the promotional front, the team has largely completed its responsibilities. The pre-release event has concluded, Prabhas is set to travel abroad, and Maruthi along with music director Thaman are busy putting the final finishing touches to the film. Meanwhile, the producer is focused on closing business deals and finalizing theatre agreements.

With most elements falling into place, the final piece of the puzzle remains clarity on ticket pricing and permissions. Once that hurdle is crossed, Raja Saab is expected to open on a celebratory note, giving fans and the trade a reason to rejoice at the start of 2026.

Anurag Kashyap on How Bombay Velvet Changed Everything

Share

A decade after the release of Bombay Velvet, director Anurag Kashyap has candidly opened up about how the film’s failure affected his relationship with its lead actors, Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.

In a recent interview with Screen, the acclaimed filmmaker revealed that following the box-office debacle of his 2015 film, he had resolved never to collaborate with the two actors again. Kashyap shared that the experience was emotionally draining for everyone involved, especially Ranbir Kapoor, who still feels uncomfortable discussing the film.

“I think Ranbir was very upset, and he keeps saying, ‘Why do you keep talking about Bombay Velvet? Just ignore it. The film didn’t work, it didn’t work, but you don’t have to talk about it all the time,’” Kashyap said. He added that while Kapoor prefers to move on, he is frequently asked about the film in interviews, making it difficult to completely avoid the topic.

Kashyap also spoke about the emotional distance that developed between him and the lead actors after the film’s failure. Recalling that phase, he admitted he struggled to face them. “We don’t meet often. Whenever we do, we just hug and greet each other. Initially, I didn’t know how to face them because they had given me a lot of trust and love. I was dealing with my own demons at the time,” he said. The filmmaker explained that he chose to retreat and focus on making a smaller, more personal film like Raman Raghav 2.0, which further contributed to the growing distance over time.

Adding an unusual insight, Kashyap revealed that post-release research uncovered a surprising reason behind the audience’s rejection of the film. According to him, viewers disliked Ranbir Kapoor’s hairstyle in the movie. Calling it a “weird” reason, Kashyap clarified that curling Kapoor’s hair was a conscious creative decision made to suit the period setting.

Bombay Velvet was a neo-noir period crime drama based on Mumbai Fables, a book by historian Gyan Prakash. The film starred Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Karan Johar in lead roles, with Kay Kay Menon, Vivaan Shah, Siddhartha Basu, and Manish Choudhary in supporting roles.

As per Sacnilk, the film was made on a reported budget of ₹115 crore but managed to collect only ₹43.71 crore worldwide and ₹23.71 crore domestically, sealing its fate as one of Bollywood’s most high-profile box-office failures.
