Thailand Plans to Cut Visa-Free Stay to 30 Days

Thailand is planning to revise its visa-free entry policy by reducing the permitted stay for travellers from select countries from 60 days to 30 days, as part of efforts to strengthen oversight while maintaining steady tourism inflows.
Under the proposed change, visitors will still have the option to apply for a 30-day extension, allowing flexibility for longer stays while shortening the initial entry duration. The move is currently under consideration by the government.
Caretaker Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow stated that the visa-exemption policy, introduced during the tenure of former Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, was originally aimed at boosting tourism by allowing eligible foreign nationals to visit without a prior visa for tourism or short-term business.
However, officials now believe that the 60-day stay may be longer than necessary for most travellers. According to the ministry’s visa committee, extended stays could increase the risk of misuse, with some individuals attempting to remain in the country without appropriate visas.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs Thailand is preparing to formally propose the reduction to 30 days while retaining the extension option. Authorities have also linked the move to concerns over illegal activities, including online scam networks, where individuals allegedly misuse longer visa-free periods to operate across borders.
Officials clarified that the proposal is not targeted at any specific nationality but is intended to address systemic gaps. Emphasizing the country’s tourism-friendly stance, Sihasak noted that Thailand remains committed to welcoming international visitors while ensuring stronger security measures.
The proposal has received support from tourism operators and the Immigration Bureau, who believe a 30-day stay is sufficient for most travel needs. The revision also follows rising concerns, particularly in popular tourist destinations like Phuket, where residents have called for stricter entry regulations amid reports of crimes involving some foreign visitors.

US Proposes Higher Wages for H-1B Workers

The U.S. Department of Labor has proposed new rules to significantly raise wages for foreign workers under the H-1B and other visa programmes, aiming to bring their pay in line with U.S. market standards.
According to officials, the move is designed to protect American workers and curb misuse of the system. Labour Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer stated that the administration is committed to ensuring fair wage practices so that domestic workers are not disadvantaged.
A key change in the proposal involves how “prevailing wages” are calculated—the benchmark that sets the minimum salary employers must offer foreign workers. Under the new plan, entry-level wages would see a sharp increase, moving from roughly the 17th percentile to the 34th percentile. Similarly, the highest wage level would rise from the 67th to the 88th percentile.
Officials argue that the current wage structure is too low, allowing companies to hire foreign workers at cheaper rates compared to U.S. employees. Government data cited in the proposal suggests that H-1B workers earn, on average, about $10,000 less than their American counterparts in similar roles.
By raising the wage floor, the department aims to remove incentives for companies to replace domestic workers with lower-paid foreign labour. The revised structure would better reflect workers’ skills and experience while promoting fair competition in the labour market.
The proposed rules will apply only to new applications and will not impact existing approvals. The department estimates that wages could increase by around $14,000 per worker annually, potentially raising labour costs for employers—especially in sectors like technology that heavily rely on foreign talent.
The proposal will be open for public comments for 60 days following its publication in the Federal Register on March 27. The H-1B visa remains the primary pathway for hiring skilled foreign professionals in the United States, many of whom later transition to permanent residency.
If implemented, these changes could significantly reshape hiring practices and compensation structures for employers while impacting thousands of foreign professionals seeking opportunities in the U.S.
Jagan Mohan Reddy Slams AP Govt Over ‘Jungle Raj’ Allegations

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and YSR Congress Party President Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has alleged that the state has descended into what he described as a “Jungle Raj,” claiming that law enforcement agencies are failing to protect citizens, especially tribals, women, and the poor.
In a post on social media platform X, Jagan Mohan Reddy said that emergency helplines are going unanswered, while “predators roam freely” and innocent lives are being lost amid what he called a lack of governance focus. He further accused those in power of prioritising “corruption, publicity stunts, and power politics” over public safety.
He highlighted the tragic case of a 17-year-old tribal girl, claiming she became another victim of systemic failure. According to him, the girl was taken from her family under the promise of education and care. He alleged that on March 22, a civil engineer approached her family in Hiramandalam, Srikakulam district, offering tuition support. The next day, she was taken to Visakhapatnam, where she was reportedly subjected to repeated sexual assault, and by March 24, her body was returned to her parents.
Jagan Mohan Reddy also alleged attempts to pressure the family into a hurried and silent cremation, raising concerns of a possible cover-up. He added that a post-mortem was conducted at the Srikakulam Government General Hospital after public pressure, while police initially showed no urgency and acted only after a complaint. He further claimed that no arrests had been made so far.
He also referred to a bus fire incident in Markapuram on Thursday morning, alleging that it exposed another failure of the state machinery, with delayed response leading to the loss of 14 lives. According to him, institutions meant to respond to emergencies have not acted effectively.
Criticising the current Chandrababu Naidu-led government, Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that governance in the state has collapsed and that only “PR-driven politics” is being carried out. He further remarked that under what he termed “Red Book governance,” the police are functioning as “puppets” while citizens continue to suffer without protection.
Deccan Chargers Story: IPL Dream, Glory & Loss

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has grown into a massive financial powerhouse, with franchise valuations reaching staggering heights. Recent reports suggest that Rajasthan Royals are valued at nearly ₹15,000 crore, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru commands an even higher valuation of around ₹16,600 crore.
When Vijay Mallya purchased RCB in 2008 for approximately ₹450 crore, the deal was widely questioned at the time. However, today’s valuations highlight the extraordinary returns early IPL investors have enjoyed over the years.
Amid these success stories, there is also a lesser-known and unfortunate chapter linked to a Telugu entrepreneur.
Tikkavarapu Venkatrami Reddy, once a prominent media baron and chairman of the Deccan Chronicle Group, entered the IPL during its inaugural season. In 2008, he successfully bid for the Hyderabad franchise for over ₹400 crore and launched the team as Deccan Chargers.
The franchise invested heavily in star power, assembling international cricket legends such as Adam Gilchrist, Andrew Symonds, Herschelle Gibbs, and Shahid Afridi.
After a disappointing debut season, Deccan Chargers scripted a historic turnaround by winning the IPL title in 2009, bringing glory to Hyderabad and shocking the cricketing world.
However, the journey soon took a dramatic turn. The franchise was later terminated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), resulting in Venkatrami Reddy losing ownership despite strong objections from the management at the time.
This led to prolonged legal battles, with claims that the termination was unjust and influenced by powerful interests within cricket administration. A lower court ruling later favored the Deccan Chargers ownership and ordered compensation, but the franchise was never revived.
What began as a bold IPL dream eventually ended as a complex story of ambition, triumph, controversy, and loss for Venkatrami Reddy and the Hyderabad franchise.
RGV’s Shocking Childhood Dream & New Film Syndicate

In a recent post, RGV revealed that when he was just around 10 years old, he dreamt of becoming an auto-rickshaw driver rather than a filmmaker. The fascination, he said, came purely from his love for the “vrooom-vroom” sound of the vehicle’s engine.
As he grew older, his aspirations kept evolving. At different stages of life, he wanted to live in a forest and later even considered becoming an engineer. Eventually, his journey took a decisive turn toward cinema.
RGV also reflected on the books and films that shaped his creative mindset. He credited authors like James Hadley Chase and Frederick Forsyth for influencing his storytelling sensibilities, along with iconic films such as The Sound of Music, The Exorcist, and The Godfather.
On the professional front, he revealed that instead of continuing with the Sarkar franchise, he is currently focused on a new project titled Syndicate. The film is based on a dark premise—imagining a scenario where law and order in India collapses within a single day.
Describing it as a “horror film without ghosts,” RGV said Syndicate will explore the terrifying depths of human nature when societal systems break down.
From dreaming of driving an auto-rickshaw to creating intense, unconventional cinema, Ram Gopal Varma’s journey continues to remain as unpredictable as his films.
