Akhanda 2 Ticket Hike Gets Court Relief
Before the release of Akhanda 2, the Telangana government issued a GO permitting a temporary hike in ticket prices. However, on December 11, the High Court halted this GO after a lunch-motion petition was filed by Advocate Srinivas Reddy.
According to the government’s order, single screens were allowed to increase ticket rates by ₹50, multiplexes by ₹100 from December 12 to 14, and the premiere ticket price was fixed at ₹600 for December 11. Despite the temporary suspension, Akhanda 2 hit theatres on December 12 with the revised prices already in effect.
In a major relief for the film’s team, the Division Bench of the High Court on Friday suspended the earlier stay order. This means theatres are now allowed to continue selling tickets at the increased prices approved by the government. The court stated that the previous direction was passed without hearing the producer or BookMyShow and noted that stopping the price hike had created complications for the film’s release.
The Bench also observed that the petitioners would face only negligible financial loss, which could be refunded later if they win the case. Since the hike is applicable only for a short period, the increased rates will remain valid until December 15. The main case will now proceed before the Single Judge, with all parties required to attend the next hearing.
Meanwhile, Akhanda 2 opened today under massive hype as it marks the fourth collaboration between Nandamuri Balakrishna and Boyapati Sreenu. The film received mixed reviews from critics, but the box office performance has been strong, with noon shows running well and evening and night shows reporting near-houseful collections.
