India’s passport system has entered a new era of digital transformation with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announcing the nationwide rollout of a fully upgraded Passport Seva ecosystem, comprising PSP V2.0, the Global Passport Seva Programme (GPSP) V2.0, and next-generation e-passports.
According to the MEA, PSP V2.0 became operational on 26 May 2025 across all 37 Passport Offices, 93 Passport Seva Kendras, and 450 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras, marking a complete overhaul of the domestic system. The global version, GPSP V2.0, was launched on 28 October 2025, extending the upgrade to Indian embassies and consulates worldwide.
The revamped platform aims to create a digitally integrated ecosystem connecting all stakeholders in passport services. The ministry said the system emphasises efficiency, transparency, and user convenience, featuring AI-powered chat and voice bots to assist applicants with forms, grievances, and procedural queries.
Key upgrades
The new online portal and mobile app introduce auto-filled forms, streamlined document uploads, and UPI/QR-based online payments to simplify the application process and reduce friction.
A major component of the initiative is the launch of e-passports—hybrid documents embedded with a secure RFID chip and antenna that store key biometric and personal information in compliance with ICAO standards. The data printed on the passport’s information page will now also be stored electronically, offering stronger authentication and enhanced security against tampering.
Transition to e-passports
The MEA confirmed that all new passports issued will be e-passports, while existing non-electronic passports will remain valid until their expiry.
The ministry said the rollout of PSP V2.0, GPSP V2.0, and e-passports represents a major milestone in India’s digital governance journey, aligning passport services with global benchmarks and delivering faster, more secure, and seamless travel for citizens. The initiative, it added, underscores the government’s broader commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the Ease of Living for Indians in India and abroad.

Kajol’s Bold Take on Marriage Shocks Fans
Kajol recently sparked an online debate with her bold statement on marriage during her new talk show “Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle,” co-hosted by Twinkle Khanna. The latest episode featured actors Vicky Kaushal and Kriti Sanon as guests.
During a light-hearted yet meaningful discussion, Kajol shared her unconventional opinion that “marriages should have an expiry date and a renewal option.” Her statement instantly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from fans and netizens.
When Twinkle asked the panel if they agreed that marriage should come with an expiry date, both Vicky and Kriti disagreed, while Twinkle humorously replied, “No, it’s marriage, not a washing machine.” Kajol, however, stood by her perspective, explaining, “I definitely think so. Who says you’ll marry the right person at the right time? If there’s a renewal option and an expiry date, people won’t have to suffer for too long.”
Known for her candid and outspoken nature, Kajol once again made headlines for voicing an opinion that challenges traditional ideas about relationships and commitment.
