Civil Supplies Minister calls TDP chief a coward
VIJAYAWADA: Civil Supplies Minister Kodali Venkateswara Rao (Nani) has termed Opposition leader N Chandrababu Naidu a coward for running to High Court to get stay over the proceedings of the CID probe into Amaravati land scam.
Addressing media on Saturday, he said Chandrababu Naidu has the record of getting stay orders in over 30 cases. “However, he will be punished in public courts. The people have given a decisive verdict by defeating TDP in 2019 general elections and the recent local body polls.
People will further confine Naidu to his house by voting YSRC to power in ZPTC and MPTC elections, and Tirupati by-election,” he said. Naidu will hire top-notch lawyers by paying any amount of money from his ill-gotten wealth, he alleged. He flayed Nara Lokesh for politicising Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) issue.

Philippines spots hundreds of Chinese ‘militia’ boats near disputed reef
MANILA: More than 200 Chinese fishing vessels believed to be crewed by militia have been spotted near a disputed reef off the Philippines, a government agency said, expressing “concern” over their presence.
The Philippine coast guard detected the boats “in line formation” at the boomerang-shaped Whitsun Reef around 320 kilometres (175 nautical miles) west of Palawan Island on March 7, a task force charged with monitoring the South China Sea said Saturday.
It said “around 220 Chinese Maritime Militia Vessels” were in the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone.
“Despite clear weather at the time, the Chinese vessels massed at the reef showed no actual fishing activities,” the task force said.
The agency “notes this circumstance as a concern due to the possible overfishing and destruction of the marine environment, as well as risks to safety of navigation.”
Foreign Minister Teodoro Locsin said Sunday he was “waiting for the order to fire” from the country’s national security adviser and defence chief before lodging a diplomatic protest.
The Chinese embassy in Manila did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The United States has previously accused China of using maritime militia to “intimidate, coerce and threaten other nations” over its claims to almost the entire South China Sea.
The resource-rich waterway is also contested by several countries, including the Philippines.
China has ignored a 2016 international tribunal decision that declared its assertion as without basis.
Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who has cosied up to Beijing since taking power in 2016, set aside the ruling in exchange for Chinese trade and investment.
He has repeatedly said conflict with China would be futile and that the Philippines would lose and suffer heavily in the process.
In 2019, the Philippines also complained after hundreds of Chinese ships were seen near Pag-asa island, also known as Thitu, which the country branded as “illegal” in a rare rebuke of Beijing.
TikTok starts banning accounts in Myanmar to curb misinformation
NEW DELHI: With the Myanmar military using TikTok to spread pro-government propaganda and threaten the protesters, the short video-sharing platform has started banning some accounts in the country in a bid to curb the spread of misinformation.
The use of TikTok by government soldiers in the country gained traction even as Facebook in February announced that it was banning Myanmar’s military as well as other state-controlled entities from both Facebook and Instagram.
A TikTok spokesperson told The Verge that the “promotion of hate, violence and misinformation has absolutely no place” on the platform.
“When we identified the rapidly escalating situation in Myanmar, we quickly expanded our dedicated resources and further stepped up efforts to remove violative content. We aggressively banned numerous accounts and devices that we identified promoting dangerous content at scale,” the spokesperson was quoted as saying in the report on Saturday.
But Rest of World reported that TikTok has acknowledged that it should have been swifter in taking action against videos that spread threats.
Even as people in Myanmar continue to protest the February 1 coup, more than 200 protesters have been killed in firings by security forces across the country, while over 600 other suffered serious injuries, some life threatening.
New corruption allegations against Aung Sang Suu Kyi, the detained former de-facto leader of Myanmar, were aired on national television last week.
The coup was staged as the military alleged massive voting fraud in the 2020 general elections, which saw Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy win a majority of seats in both Houses of the Parliament.

Person commits suicide following Teenmaar Mallanna’s loss
Teenmaar Mallanna tried his very best to win in the recently concluded graduate MLC elections, but he wasn’t able to win in the end. He gave the strongest fight to TRS but lost out in the end.
Unable to take the failure, a man named Srisailam consumed pesticide and committed suicide. Thinking that he was still alive, his family members took him to a hospital in Nalgonda, but the doctors said that Srisailam was already dead.
Addressing the issue, Mallanna said that Srisailam was very active in the campaign that Mallanna ran ahead of the elections, and that he was also a part of the Padayatra. Mallanna said that it’s sad to lose someone as valuable as Srisailam.
Mallanna also asked the rest of the followers to not commit suicide just because of a loss and reminded them that victories and losses are a part of life and that they are not be taken so seriously. He said that there will be a day when they will get to wield power and change everything.

Strategist KCR wipes out BJP in Telangana MLC elections
HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s strategy to reverse the BJP’s winning streak has worked. His decision to field former Prime Minister late PV Narasimha Rao’s daughter Surabhi Vani Devi and sitting MLC Palla Rajeshwar Reddy for the two Graduate MLC seats in Telangana has sent the saffron party to the cleaners.
Vani Devi wrested Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahbubnagar from incumbent BJP MLC N Ramchander Rao by polling 1,89,339 lakh votes. In the process, she vanquished two-time MLC Prof K Nageshwar and Congress nominee G Chinna Reddy. In Nalgonda-Warangal-Khammam, though it is a sitting seat, Rajeshwar Reddy had to sweat it out to retain it.
He polled 1,61,811 votes. Independent Teenmaar Mallanna, who was once a journalist, gave Rajeshwar Reddy a run for his money. In the beginning, no one took a second look at him but he made heads turn when he began breathing down Rajeshwar Reddy’s neck.That meticulous planning would help one win any electoral battle has been proved once again. Since the beginning, the TRS took the election to the two seats quite seriously as it had to wrest one from the BJP and stop the saffron party from snatching the other from its hold.
Actuating his plan into motion, the Chief Minister, who has an admiration for scholars and litterateurs, pulled out a surprise on the Congress by claiming Narasimha Rao’s legacy and when the MLC election arrived, he nominated his daughter for the Hyd-RR-MBNR seat. By positioning her against the BJP, which has become a fly in the ointment for him of late, he sowed wind and reaped a whirlwind.
In Hyd-RR-MBNR, the TRS had an advantage from the start as, besides the BJP, there was the Congress and Prof K Nageshwar in the fray who shared the anti-TRS vote.
In NAL-WGL-KHM, Teenmar Mallanna, Prof Kodandaram, the BJP and Telangana Inti Party’s Cheruku Sudhakar, among others, split the anti-TRS votes.
Another factor, in addition to the hard work that the ministers put in campaigning, that helped the TRS was the Chief Minister’s reported promise of 29 per cent fitment. This seems to have made the government employees have a change of heart in favour of the pink party.
Pulverised in both the constituencies, the BJP now has lost the edge to its campaign that it was the only party that could challenge the TRS monolith in the 2023 Assembly polls. On the other hand, the TRS is now reassured that KCR’s magic is still at work, which is making it bolder, as it prepares for the Nagarjunasagar Assembly seat byelection on April 17. The leaders of the ruling party have already started baying for the BJP’s blood, saying that the TRS is invincible and those who come in its way would be obliterated. “The MLC poll results are a slap on the face of our critics,” Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yadav said, implying the BJP.
Nithiin comments about post marriage life
Nithiin is awaiting the release of Rang De which is slated for release on 26th of this month. He is actively promoting the film and taking part in various promotional campaigns.
In his recent interaction with media, Nithiin opened up about life post marriage and made a few interesting comments.
“Before marriage, I used to sparingly speak about shootings with Shalini. Now, I discuss everything with her and she has a say in almost all the major decisions I take,” he said.
Nithiin says Shalini usually doesn’t watch too many movies. “But we had way too much spare time during the lockdown and watched quite a few web series’ and movies together,” he adds.
Coming to Rang De, the film is directed by Venky Atluri and produced by Suryadevara Naga Vamsi under Sithara Entertainments banner. The film also stars Keerthy Suresh.
Nithiin is also working on the Telugu remake of Andhadhun which is in final leg of shoot. The film stars Tamannaah and Nabha Natesh in other important roles.
