Ustaad Bhagat Singh Review: Pawan Kalyan Shines in a Routine Mass Entertainer

Share

Ustaad Bhagat Singh marks the much-awaited reunion of Pawan Kalyan and Harish Shankar after their blockbuster Gabbar Singh. Announced back in 2020 and delayed due to multiple factors, including COVID and political commitments, the film has finally hit theatres. But does it recreate the magic of their previous collaboration?

What’s it about?

The story revolves around a noble teacher (K. S. Ravikumar) who dedicates his life to tribal welfare and shapes a courageous young boy into ‘Ustaad Bhagat Singh’. Growing up into an honest and fearless police officer, Bhagat takes on corruption and injustice.

As his mentor rises to become the Chief Minister, a political conspiracy threatens his life. What follows is Bhagat’s battle against powerful enemies, including a ruthless politician (R. Parthiban), while also navigating his personal relationships with Geetha (Sreeleela) and Shloka (Raashii Khanna).

Performances

Pawan Kalyan is the backbone of the film. His screen presence, styling, and energy are among his best in recent years. He shines in mass moments, emotional scenes, and even brings back his trademark comic timing in parts.

R. Parthiban delivers a solid performance as the antagonist, while K. S. Ravikumar impresses in a restrained and mature role.

Sreeleela does well as a lively RJ, and her chemistry with Pawan Kalyan works better than expected. Raashii Khanna, however, gets limited scope and leaves only a mild impact.

Supporting actors like Rao Ramesh, L.B. Sriram, and others deliver mixed performances, with some comedy portions falling flat.

Technical Aspects

Devi Sri Prasad, who earlier delivered chartbusters for Pawan Kalyan, disappoints this time with a below-average album.

Thaman S provides a decent but largely unremarkable background score.

Cinematography by Ayananka Bose is visually appealing, especially in forest sequences and grand sets. However, editing by Karthika Srinivas could have been tighter, particularly in the first half. Production values from Mythri Movie Makers are rich and commendable.

What Works

  • Pawan Kalyan’s screen presence
  • Three well-executed blocks in the second half
  • A few impactful dialogues

What Doesn’t

  • Routine, template-driven screenplay
  • Outdated narration style
  • Weak songs
  • Slow and dull first half

Analysis

Despite rumors, Ustaad Bhagat Singh is not a remake of Theri, but it heavily borrows familiar elements from several commercial films. While the second half offers a few engaging moments—especially the old city episode, police station sequence, and key confrontation scenes—the film struggles with consistency.

Unlike Gabbar Singh, which stood out due to its fresh characterization, this film leans too much on Pawan Kalyan’s real-life persona and “vintage” references. The initial hour, in particular, feels outdated and lacks excitement.

However, the dialogues by Harish Shankar are a highlight, adding weight to several scenes. Certain nostalgic touches, like the usage of Nee Manase from Tholiprema, work well without feeling forced.

Final Verdict

Ustaad Bhagat Singh has moments that will satisfy fans and mass audiences, but it falls short of expectations when compared to Gabbar Singh.

For fans of Pawan Kalyan, there’s enough to enjoy. For others, it’s a watchable outing only if you’re okay with a formula-driven commercial entertainer.

Sreeleela vs Raashi Khanna Styles Steal Spotlight at Ustaad Bhagat Singh Events

Share

The presence of leading ladies at star-studded press meets often grabs as much attention as the film itself, and the latest Ustaad Bhagat Singh events are no exception. Actresses Sreeleela and Raashi Khanna, both known for their glamorous on-screen appearances, have once again become the talk of the town. Their recent special songs, including Kissik and Achacho, have already gone viral, adding to the buzz around the film starring Pawan Kalyan.

At the pre-release events, Raashi Khanna has been turning heads with her bold fashion choices. After impressing in a deep-cut sleeveless blouse earlier, she appeared at the latest press meet in a white strapless blouse paired with a saree, radiating confidence and glamour. Interestingly, she had kept a more simple and traditional look while promoting her previous film Telusu Kada, making her current appearances stand out even more.

In contrast, Sreeleela has been maintaining a more traditional and elegant style. She was seen in a saree with a full-sleeve blouse at one event and later chose a white churidar for the press meet, keeping her look graceful and understated.

The contrast in their styles has sparked discussions among fans, with some noting that Sreeleela seems to be consciously toning down the glamour quotient at public events, much like Anushka Shetty, while Raashi Khanna continues to captivate with her bold and glamorous appearances. This balance of styles has only added more visual appeal and buzz to the promotional events of Ustaad Bhagat Singh.

Anushka Shetty Team Slams Marriage Rumours, Calls for Privacy

Share

Actress Anushka Shetty has once again become the subject of widespread speculation, with recent reports claiming that she is set to get married soon. However, putting all rumours to rest, her team has issued an official statement clarifying that there is no truth to these claims.

The statement strongly criticized certain media outlets and social media pages for spreading unverified information, urging them to wait for official confirmation instead of turning personal matters into sensational headlines. It emphasized that repeatedly publishing rumours without facts is not journalism, but an invasion of privacy.

The team also highlighted the constant focus on the actress’s age, calling it a form of subtle yet persistent age-shaming. They questioned why such narratives are often directed at female actors, while male stars are rarely subjected to similar scrutiny.

Pointing to Anushka’s dignified and low-profile career, the note stated that she has never relied on publicity stunts and prefers to keep her personal life private. It further stressed that marriage is a deeply personal decision and should not be sensationalized for attention or engagement.

With this clarification, her team has made it clear that the ongoing marriage rumours are baseless, while also delivering a strong message about respecting personal boundaries and maintaining responsible reporting within the entertainment industry.

Revanth Reddy Questions Salaries for Absent MLAs, Targets KCR

Share

A debate over legislative accountability took center stage in the Telangana Assembly as Chief Minister Revanth Reddy questioned the practice of elected representatives drawing salaries despite rarely attending sessions. His remarks brought attention to opposition leaders like K. Chandrashekar Rao and Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, who have often been criticized for their limited presence in Assembly proceedings.

During the session, Revanth Reddy revealed that KCR has reportedly received around ₹1.06 crore in salary even after the 2023 election defeat, despite not actively participating in Assembly meetings. He questioned the propriety of accepting public funds without fulfilling legislative responsibilities and raised concerns about maintaining the dignity of democratic institutions.

The Chief Minister suggested that it is time for a serious discussion on whether MLAs who fail to attend sessions regularly should continue to receive salaries. He advocated for stricter measures to ensure accountability and proper utilization of public money.

The issue has sparked a broader conversation about the responsibilities of elected representatives and whether attendance should be made a key criterion for drawing salaries, with many viewing it as a necessary step toward strengthening democratic practices.

Harish Shankar Strategically Promotes Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagat Singh

Share

Interest in the upcoming movie Ustaad Bhagat Singh, starring Power Star Pawan Kalyan, continues to grow day by day. Directed by Harish Shankar, the film is reportedly being handled with meticulous care, especially when it comes to its promotional strategy.

Sources suggest that Harish Shankar is being particularly cautious to avoid mistakes made by other directors in the past, such as Maruthi, whose film promotions drew criticism for revealing unnecessary details that created a negative impact. Learning from such experiences, Harish Shankar is focusing entirely on highlighting Pawan Kalyan’s image, energy, and screen presence rather than creating excessive hype about box office records or collections. The emphasis is on keeping the audience engaged with the content itself.

In recent times, several films have faced disappointment when pre-release hype raised sky-high expectations that were not met after release. By avoiding that path, Harish Shankar aims to promote the movie effectively without overpromising.

Fans of Pawan Kalyan already have high expectations for Ustaad Bhagat Singh, and his ability to balance films alongside his political commitments, coupled with his hit combination with Harish Shankar, has further fueled interest. Managing these expectations is a major challenge for the director. Promotion, in this case, is not just marketing but also creating the right audience perception and excitement.

Harish Shankar’s careful approach—speaking only when necessary and avoiding unnecessary hype—appears designed to keep Ustaad Bhagat Singh in a “safe zone” before its release. How well this strategy pays off post-release remains to be seen, but his method may serve as a lesson for other filmmakers in the future.
