HC stalls house sites’ allotment in Amaravati again!

Share

The attempts of the YSR Congress party government led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy to distribute house sites to over 54,000 landless poor in Amaravati capital region hit yet another road block on Friday.

The Andhra Pradesh high court has suspended for four weeks the government orders on making changes in the masterplan of Amaravati enabling the AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) to allot lands to the revenue department for distribution of houses sites.

Acting on a petition filed by farmers of Amaravati, the high court gave the interim orders suspending the gazette notification after hearing the arguments from both the farmers and the government. The court deferred the case to June 17.

The farmers argued that if the APCRDA had to make changes in the master plan of Amaravati as per Section 41 of the CRDA Act, it has to take the consent from the local bodies and village committees.

They said the method being followed by the government to allot lands was completely in violation of the Act.

The government had earlier issued the orders, authorising the APCRDA to allot land to the revenue department, which will be construed as an applicant as per the Amaravati Land Allotment Regulations, 2017.

The government asked the APCRDA to relax the operation of any of its rules treating it as a special case.

It also asked the APCRDA to make due changes in the master plan as per laid down procedures within the Act. In the meantime, the government will challenge the high court orders in the Supreme Court.

Jagan proposed to acquire 1,251 acres belonging to six villages falling under Amaravati capital region, which was originally planned to be developed into a world-class capital city and proposed to distribute the same among 54,000 landless poor from Vijayawada municipal corporation, Tadepalli, Mangalagiri, Duggirala and Pedakakani areas.

Each family will be allotted one cent (nearly 50 square yards). The house site patta would be given in the name of woman beneficiary of the house. The CRDA will take up development of the layout, clearly demarcating the plots.

The government order was challenged by one of the farmers of Amaravati, who contended that the government cannot misuse the land given by them for construction of the capital city. The land was given to the government not for weaker section housing programme, they argued.

Producers Guild Reacts On Multiplex’s Warning

Share

Some things are quickly shaping up in Bollywood as other day they have announced that director Shoojit Sircar’s upcoming film Gulaabo Sitabo featuring Amitabh Bachhan and Ayushman Khurrana is hitting Amazon Prime directly skipping a theatrical release has shocked all. With INOX reacting on this, without naming the film, and indirectly giving warning to producers that there will be repercussions, Bollywood’s Producers Guild has responded now.

Explaining that if multiplexes and other theatre owners need films for their existence, first of all, producers need to exist, Producers Guild has given a strong counter. They stated that lots of producers are suffering from losses already and only if they recover their investment they could make movies for theatrical releases in the future. Producers Guild made a strong exception to the unnecessary warnings being given by the multiplex owners.

But then, they have explained that it will take time to open theatres and also the occupancy rate will be quite low even after opening due to Covid-19 fears. At the same time, Producers Guild stated that the overseas market of films will also come crashing and the plight of small budgeted movies is inexplainable. To decrease the load of backlogs, they say that some films need to go OTT directly such that they will save producers from mounting interests over loans as well.

With this clairty, it is now clear that many more big Bollywood movies will go OTT way while there are movies like Vidya Balan’s Shakuntala Devi and Akshay Kumar’s Laxmi Bomb are almost confirmed for the same.

Krishna water row ends KCR-Jagan friendship?

Share

The river water dispute between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana has once again broken the friendly relationship between two chief ministers Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and K Chandrasekhar Rao.

Apparently, KCR appears to be terribly upset with Jagan’s unilateral decision to expand the discharge capacity of Pothireddypadu head regulator on Krishna river on the foreshores of Srisailam reservoir in Kadapa district.

The issuance of GO Ms No. 203 dated May 5 by the Andhra Pradesh government giving administrative sanction for Rs 7,000 crore for constructing Rayalaseema Lift Scheme at Sangameshwaram to lift three tmc ft of water from Krishna river into Srisailam Right Main Canal, besides other plans to expand Pothireddypadu head regulator, has come as a big shock to KCR.

KCR wondered why Jagan took such a unilateral decision at a time when the Telangana government was extending a friendly hand to the AP stating that river waters should be utilised for the benefit of farmers in both the states setting aside all the differences and disputes of the past.

“I have taken the initiative by saying there should not be any ego or water basin problems in utilizing the water. It is very painful that despite this, the AP government declared a new scheme without even consulting with the Telangana state to lift water from Srisailam project unilaterally. This dented the very spirit with which water should be utilised by the two stats with mutual cooperation,” he said.

Stating that the decision taken by the AP government is against the AP State Reorganization Act, KCR asked the officials to file a complaint with the apex council, raise it in the Krishna Water Management Board meeting and if necessary, take up a legal fight in the Supreme Court.

He made it clear the project would be stopped by the Telangana government and it would put in a fight without any compromise.

Congress to take up issue with PM

Share

HYDERABAD: TPCC president and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy said a representation would be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Water Resources Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat asking them to halt the GO 203. A Congress delegation, led by Uttam, approached the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) on Thursday, opposing the Andhra Pradesh government’s plan to utilise additional 3 TMC water from Srisailam by upgrading the canal systems from the Pothireddypadu head regulators.

Speaking to mediapersons after submitting the representation to KRMB Chairman Chandrashekar Iyer, Uttam said the board’s attention was drawn towards GO No. 203, which involves the sanction of `6,829 crore to upgrade the Pothireddypadu head regulator to draw 80,000 cusecs from the foreshore of Srisailam reservoir. “If AP’s plan to draw 3 TMC per day, in addition to the existing drawing of Krishna water from the foreshore of the Srisailam reservoir, is executed, lakhs of farmers in southern Telangana would get affected.

Besides agriculture, the Krishna water is used for drinking purposes in Hyderabad too,” he said. Uttam also explained to Shekhawat that the Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut would be doomed if the order was implemented. He urged the Union Minister to intervene, to which the latter responded positively, he said. When the enhancement of Pothireddypadu was announced by AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, both in and outside the Assembly, Congress leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy objected to it. He wrote to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on January 4, asking him to protect the interest of the State, Uttam said.

But, KCR did not pay attention to the announcements made by Jagan, he alleged. “This negligence clearly shows that KCR was having some secret understanding with Jagan to allow AP to take away water from Telangana,” he alleged. He asked the KRMB to keep a watch on the utlisation of water by installing telemeters and demanded deployment of CISF to prevent water theft. Meanwhile, TPCC working president A Revanth Reddy submitted a memorandum regarding the issue to Principal Secretary Rajat Kumar on Thursday.

These 167 migrant workers shivering the entire nation

Share

It is known that the central government has decided to transport the migrant laborers all over the country to their native states in special ‘Shramik trains’. One of those Shramik trains has left from Gujarat’s Surat to Uttarakhand’s Haridwar with 1340 migrant laborers.

Here comes the twist as 167 passengers of a special train bringing migrants to Haridwar from Gujarat’s Surat has gone missing, causing concern among officials here. The number of passengers who deboarded the train here does not match with the list of passengers received from Surat, Haridwar District Magistrate C Ravishankar said on Thursday.

If these persons were missed after they boarded the train in Surat, it is such a huge matter to shake the entire country. The missed 167 people’s whereabouts is yet to be known. As per the list received from the Surat administration, 1,340 people were traveling by a special train that left Surat on May 12 but when it reached Haridwar station, only 1,173 passengers got down from the train.

While the other passengers on the train were questioned about the missed members, they just shrugged. Some say that they might have jumped from the train in the midway being afraid of quarantine but in that case, some would have known about it in the remaining 1173 passengers. However, the investigation is underway but the entire country is feared with this incident.

The Indian Railways has operated 302 ‘Shramik Special’ trains since May 1 and ferried home more than 3 lakh migrants stranded in various parts of the country amid the corona-induced lockdown.

Small hut gets 41000 current bill

Share

While COVID-19 is causing enough damage to the people in Andhra Pradesh, the electricity bills have become a huge headache for the people as well as the government. In many houses, the electricity bill was recorded more than the consumers have consumed in the entire month.

The recent incident that happened in Chittoor district is an example of this inconsistent electricity billing in Andhra Pradesh. There is a woman in a hut that is situated in Devadoddi village in Byreddypudi Mandal whose electricity bill is Rs 41,149 for this month.

There are only two electric bulbs, two fans, and a TV in that hut and even though all 5 appliances run for 24/7 all month, the bill wouldn’t cross Rs.1000. She was shell-shocked with that bill and when she approached the officials, they said that they haven’t billed a rupee excess than what she had consumed.

This situation prevails in all villages which come under Tirupathi APSPDCL. In another hut in a village near Srikalahasthi, the electricity bill was charged Rs.17,000 and in another shed that was built with flakes, the billing was Rs.28,000 and the same is happening for many houses all over the state.

On the other side, the State government has decided to give time to consumers to pay their electricity bills of May until June 30, an extension of 45 days, without any penalty or disconnection of service. Following reports of excess power bills, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has asked the energy department officials to defer the collection of electricity bills till June 30.

KCR lost his patience over COVID 19.. Sensational decision ahead?

Share

At the start of this COVID-19 pandemic, Telangana Chief Minister KCR was hugely praised for his brave and sensational decisions. All the time KCR acted independently and was imposing lockdown irrespective of the center’s decision to prove his mark.

Now, the situation is reversed all of a sudden as Telangana is showing massive growth in the number of positive cases being registered daily. Last week, the cases were registered in single digits but now as the number of COVID-19 confirmatory tests was increased by the government, many infected people came out.

During the announcement of lockdown 3.0, Telangana was in a very good position when compared to other south Indian states except Kerala. But, the situation has gone complicated and Andhra Pradesh has registered fewer cases than Telangana in the last 4 days.

So, KCR who was previously adamant about the uplifting and exemptions in the lockdown restrictions is itching to act stubborn once again. As everyone is criticizing him and his government for not conducting the adequate number of tests earlier, KCR wants to impose strict lockdown no matter what Center decides under ‘lockdown 4.0 rules and regulations’.

This may include the limitation of wine sales and blockage of all transport systems to buffer and containment zones etc. After today’s review meeting KCR will come up with a specific plan so that he can attain his lost glory and everyone is excited about his next press meet.
