TDP to keep mum on Andhra Pradesh-Telangana water dispute

Share

VIJAYAWADA: Even as Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are embroiled in a fresh controversy over the AP government’s proposal to lift 3 TMC of water from the Pothireddypadu head regulatory upstream of the Srisailam project, the opposition TDP in the State has decided to adopt a wait-and-watch approach on the water war between the sibling States.

The party leadership reportedly told members not to comment on the controversy till an “appropriate time”.

Opposition leader and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu held the party’s politburo meeting on Wednesday via videoconference and took stock of the political developments in the State, including the water war, the Vizag gas leak, and unseasonal rains.

Political ploy to divert people’s attention, alleges TDP leader

The focal point in the meeting, however, was the state’s decision to lift 3 TMC of water from the Srisailam project to cater to the Rayalaseema region.

This decision was criticised by the Telangana government, which even knocked the doors of the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB).

Most leaders of the opposition party opined that the AP and TS governments were blowing up the issue to divert the attention of the public from burning issues.

“We discussed not just the Pothireddypadu issue, but the negligence of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government towards irrigation projects in the Rayalaseema region. We will comment at an appropriate time,” a senior TDP leader told TNIE. Leaders of the party added that both the state governments were turning an old issue into a “controversial” one to keep other matters on the backburner.

“Both chief ministers earlier said the states would share water from the Krishna and Godavari amicably, but they have now raked up a controversy over an old issue.

“The AP government, which did not spend even a rupee on irrigation projects in Rayalaseema this year, is saying it will take up a new project. This is just a political ploy to divert people’s attention from burning issues,” the TDP leader added.

TDP ‘online Mahanadu’ on May 27, 28

For the first time since its inception, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has decided to hold its annual Mahanadu online over videoconference in adherence to the physical distancing norms to prevent spread of coronavirus.

The decision was taken unanimously at the virtual TDP politburo meeting.

“In view of the physical distancing restrictions, it would not be possible to organise Mahanadu as there will be a large-scale gathering of party leaders and cadres from all over the state.

“However, the Mahanadu coinciding with party founder NTR’s birthday will continue uninterrupted this year virtually,” the TDP politburo leader said.

TDP leaders said that like before, the Mahanadu would discuss and pass resolutions on socio-political issues faced by Telugu people, farmers, migrant workers, agricultural workers and others.

Pawan Gave Me Gabbar Singh, Nagababu Is The Producer

From the last couple of days, both director Harish Shankar and producer Bandla Ganesh are involving in throwing punches on each other through their cryptic tweets. Everything started when Harish Shankar has forgotten to thank producer Bandla Ganesh in his tweets, on the occasion of Gabbar Singh movie completing 8 years of release.

Responding on the same with a leading media house, Harish Shankar says, “Anyone can blame anyone here. Ganesh might say that he has given me Gabbar Singh when I’m in flops. But I can also say that I had given him a chance and break when he was reeling with flops like Anjaneyulu and Teenmaar. By the way, Pawan Kalyan offered me a chance to direct Gabbar Singh and Nagababu is the original producer of the film”.

That’s a sort of both clarity and satire from the happening director as he gets ready to direct Pawan Kalyan in his next which will be produced by Mythri Movie Makers. Talking about that film, Harish Shankar stated that he has narrated only a basic line to Pawan and got the approval, but he has to write the full-pledged story now. He’s said to be utilising the lockdown time for the same.

AP to hold Tenth exams in July?

Share

Due to the Corona virus, the tenth standard and many exams across the country have been postponed. There is still an uncertainty among students so as when the exams would be held. The government of Andhra Pradesh probably is the first state in the country to finalise the schedule of tenth standard exams.

From July 10th to 15th, the tenth exams are likely to be held. Also the state government has decided to reduce the number of papers from 11 to 6. Earlier each paper would have 50 marks questions and now each paper would carry 100 marks. The education department had made these suggestions in order to save time and also the academic year of students.

However an official announcement is yet to arrive. Though the students have ample of time to prepare for the exams, it will be a challenging task for them to write six papers instead of 11.

Meanwhile the Telangana government is yet to take a decision on tenth exams. The TRS government needs to take the consent of Telangana High Court and minister Sabitha Indrareddy stated that they would soon file an affidavit in the court.

Quarantine Review: A Captivating Sci-Fi Thriller

Share

Film industry has been facing an insurmountable loss because of the lockdown, but there is also a Brightside to it. Film lovers are searching for good movies across OTT platforms and making time to watch all those good movies that have gone unnoticed or been overlooked. One such film that Telugu filmgoers missed to watch in theaters is Maayavan starring Sundeep Kishan. The film was made in Tamil and also dubbed in Telugu as Project X. Thanks to the controversy created by the producer who bought its dubbing rights, Project X was snubbed by the filmgoers despite a notable actor playing the lead.

Maayavan is now streaming on Amazon Prime and has been getting its due, finally. Telugu cinema lovers are adding it to their playlists as it has Sundeep Kishan and Lavanya Tripathi in the lead roles. Directed by CV Kumar, Maayavan is a science fiction thriller with a unique plot. A series of murders are happening in the city and young police officer (Sundeep) finds eerie similarities between all those crimes. He tries to solve the mystery that only reveals startling truths about a scientist who developed a project named Maayavan, which becomes extremely tough for the police to deal with.

Maayavan takes some time at the beginning to insert a track for the heroine. Director and writers are sensible enough to not to deviate from the plot for the sake of romance. However, there is no need for songs in this film as they come across as obstacles to the narrative. Thankfully, the heroine character is restricted to the background once the hero gets busy in solving the mystery.

Maayavan holds our interest until we find out about the mystery behind murders. The scientific explanation given to all the mysterious happenings is clear without any confusion. But it seems totally implausible and beyond logic. Even if we suspend logic and accept that it is just fiction, the narrative loses grip and conviction. Jackie Shroff’s introduction scene is good, but it is shown in an over the top fashion in the latter scenes.

Barring the minor gripes, Maayavan makes for an engaging watch with its able star cast, credible production design and an engrossing musical score. Direction is good in parts and the cinematography is decent. Sundeep Kishan fits the bill quite convincingly as a sincere and determined cop. Lavanya Tripathi shines in the initial portions and gets side lined thereafter. Jackie Shroff looks out of place with his makeup as well as his performance.

If you are looking for a film that keeps you hooked with interesting twists and turns, then Maayavan is one of the better options available online right now.

Coronavirus: Telangana records two deaths, 41 cases

Share

HYDERABAD: Telangana, on Wednesday, recorded 41 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths. While 31 of the new patients are from Hyderabad (GHMC limits), 10 of them are migrants. In fact, the number of migrant cases have seen a sharp spike in the last one week.

This takes the total number of COVID-19 cases in the State to 1,367. A total of 35 migrant cases have been recorded so far. The death toll, meanwhile, has risen to 34. The bulletin from the Director of Public Health on Wednesday stated, “Large number of migrants are entering the State from across the country. The evacuees from other countries arriving at Hyderabad by designated flights are being screened at the airports and the symptomatic persons are being tested for Coronavirus.” All the migrant workers arriving by road and rail are being screened for symptoms at railway stations and border check-posts.

The asymptomatic migrants arriving in Telangana through various points of entry are quarantined at home and in government facilities. The symptomatic migrants, meanwhile, are isolated and tested. The bulletin further requested the general public to inform the local authorities in case they identify people who have newly arrived in their towns and villages, so that the government can test them for Coronavirus, if they haven’t already. The bulletin further said that while one of the two people who died was a 38-year-old woman from Jiyaguda, the other was a 74-year-old man from Saroornagar.

YouTube Views Of ‘Ala..’ Songs Prove Two Points

Share

The super success of the album of ‘Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’ proves couple of things for filmmakers to take care of. Especially when it comes to getting good music for a film, only a talented composer could do the needful, but still, the director and producer needs to look into other stuff too.

One of the super hit songs from the film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, scored by SS Thaman, is none other than Samajavaragamana. Later the likes of Ramuloo Ramulaa slipped into trending and then Butta Bomma came out, which is only a partial success. If we look at lyrical videos, Samajavaragamana has 186 million views, while Ramuloo Ramulaa stunned with 264 million views and Buttabomma fetched only 54 million views on Aditya Music channel. That explains, which song clicked well with the audience, and the need for thumping music.

After the film’s release, the makes have come out with the video songs of the movie on the same platform and channel. While Ramuloo Ramulaa has 102 million views, Samajavaragamana has just 65 million views. But the showstopper is Butta Bomma with 168 million views. That means visuals are also important for a song to do well in theatres (and on YouTube too).

To sum up, if one has to bring audiences to theatres, they need to have great foot-tapping songs, while they have to enthral them inside theatres, there should be terrific dances and peppy visuals.

Bandi says KCR failed to protect interests of Telangana

Share

HYDERABAD: Revealing BJP’s plan to continue the fight over the Pothireddypadu issue, the saffron party’s State unit chief and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar questioned Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for the delay in reacting to Andhra Pradesh government issuing GO 203.The AP GO 203 gave green signal to lift waters from Pothireddypadu to Rayalaseema.

During a daylong ‘deeksha’ staged at party office in Hyderabad on Wednesday, Bandi Sanjay said that many doubts are being raised over the issue. “May be there is a secret understanding between Telangana CM KCR and his AP counterpart YS Jagan Mohan Reddy,” he said, while recalling how AP Irrigation Minister P Anil Kumar Yadav often talks about both the CMs acting like brothers.

Explaining how the AP’s decision will affect the interests of Telangana, he said: “The erstwhile Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Rangareddy and Khammam districts would face huge water scarcity if the AP government succeeded in diverting the Krishna waters to Rayalaseema.”

All Those Memes Have Reached Trivikram Too!

Share

In recent times, for reasons unknown, many memes started doing rounds on ace writer-director Trivikram. While some memes highlighted how he is repeating the same stories of rich guy going into a house to settle some matters all the time, some memes focused on how he is lifting content from various Hollywood movies.

Some close sources revealed that all these memes and satires on Trivikram copying content from other language films has reached the director too. But the director is said to have simply laughed at them and indicated that there is no wrong in re-writing and using certain Hollywood scenes if they are quite good enough.

However, he’s said to have told his associates that, first one has to develop own storyline and screenplay, but copying a total film on a whole will not yield anything. Maybe ‘guruji’ might have got hurt that French film ‘Largo Winch’ gave him a big flop while own stories like Aravinda Sametha and Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo have done magic for him.

On the other hand, Trivikram is said to be working on the script of #NTR30 as he is giving some final touches to the emotional scenes now. He’s making sure that there will no copied scenes or repetitive elements in this film.

Uttam wants KCR to resign for failing to stop AP’s G.O.

Share

HYDERABAD: TPCC president and Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy has sought the resignation of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for failing to obstruct GO 203 issued by the Andhra Pradesh government. Participating in a day-long deeksha at Gandhi Bhavan on Wednesday, he expressed outrage at the move of the AP government to enhance the capacity of the Pothireddypadu head regulator.

Uttam stated that the Congress would approach the Krishna River Board and the Supreme Court to stop the same. He alleged that the AP government plans to lift 10 tmcft water to Rayalaseema through the Pothireddypadu and Sangameshwara projects at an estimated cost of Rs 6,825 crore.

Uttam expressed concern that the erstwhile Ranga Reddy, Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda and Khammam districts would face severe water shortage if the AP government succeeded in its move. The TPCC president alleged that AP Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy had already taken KCR into confidence in the matter.

T’gana stares at 3rd wave of infections from migrants

Share

Initially it was foreign returnees, then came the second wave with the return of attendees of the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi and now with the arrival of thousands of migrants, Telangana stares at a third wave of Covid-19 infections.

With at least 35 migrants testing positive for Covid-19 during the last five days, the state government has sounded an alert and stepped up surveillance at the entry points to check the spread of the virus.

It was on March 2 that Telangana had recorded its first coronavirus case and every time the government thought the worst was over, it faced a new challenge.

Late last month, both Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao and Health Minister Eatala Rajender had exuded confidence that with the decline in the number of new cases and higher rate of recovery, the state would be largely free from the disease by May 8. However, the spike in the number of cases during the last few days dashed their hopes.

Unlike the foreign returnees and Tablighi meet attendees and their contacts who could all be traced and screened, the authorities are finding it tough to keep track of all migrants returning home from other states.

Officials admit that the movement of a large number of people by different modes of transport following the relaxations in lockdown restrictions poses a challenge as many have already reached their villages.

So far 41,805 migrants have reached Telangana by road while 239 have arrived by train. The number of those arriving by special aircraft from other countries stands at 798.

What is causing concern to health authorities is that the majority of the migrants are from Maharashtra, the worst affected state in the country with nearly 26,000 cases including 975 deaths.

Health Minister Eatala Rajender admitted that the state faces the threat of a surge in the number of cases with the return of migrants.

With the increase in the number of travellers to the state following relaxations in the lockdown, Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao alerted the health department.

The evacuees from other countries reaching Hyderabad by special flights are being quarantined in hotels for 14 days. Those arriving by trains are being screened by the health personnel at the railway stations and all such people are being stamped ‘home quarantined’ on the hands.

The people entering the state by road are being examined by medical teams at the entry points. The asymptomatic are being quarantined at home or in government quarantine facilities while the symptomatic migrants are being isolated for testing.

To screen the migrants entering the state, 275 health teams have been deployed at 87 check posts in the border districts. About 1000 health personnel are working in these teams.

However, it is believed that before a proper screening system could be put in place at inter-state check posts, many people had already entered the state and reached their villages.

This was evident from the case of three migrants who returned from Mumbai. They voluntarily approached Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad due to suspected symptoms and were found Covid-19 positive.

The health department has urged the general public to inform the local authorities in case they identify new persons or migrants who have arrived in the towns and villages.

Officials say all newly arrived people in every village are being identified and screened. ASHA workers are ensuring that they don’t step out of their houses for 14 days. Those with suspected symptoms are being immediately sent to hospitals for Covid-19 testing.

In the daily medical bulletin released by the health department, a new category ‘migrants’ has been added to the list of 33 districts. This was apparently done to ensure that the districts with zero cases so far and those with no cases for the last two-three weeks are not added to the category of red zone districts by the Centre.

Most of the migrants who tested positive belong to one of three districts which had not reported a single case so far. Many also hail from some of the 26 districts which saw no new case for the last two weeks.

The state recorded two deaths on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 34. Both the deaths were reported from Hyderabad, the worst affected district.

The state also reported 41 new infections, which took the state’s tally to 1367 cases. Ten of those who tested positive were migrants.
