Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra Booked in ₹60 Crore Fraud Case

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty, her husband Raj Kundra, and one other individual have been booked for allegedly cheating a businessman of over ₹60 crore. The complaint was filed by Deepak Kothari, director of Lotus Capital Financial Services Ltd, claiming the alleged fraud occurred between 2015 and 2023.

Kothari alleged that the couple initially approached him in 2015, through a mediator, seeking a loan of ₹75 crore for their company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, which promoted lifestyle products and operated an online shopping platform. The agreed interest rate was 12%. Later, Shetty and Kundra requested that the funds be provided as an investment instead of a loan, assuring him of monthly returns and repayment of the principal.

According to Kothari, he transferred ₹31.95 crore in April 2015 under a share subscription agreement, followed by ₹28.53 crore in September 2015 under a supplementary agreement. The total funds were credited to Best Deal TV’s bank accounts.

Despite repeated efforts to recover the money, Kothari claims he was unable to retrieve the funds, alleging that the couple misused the money for personal purposes.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has now launched a detailed investigation into the financial dealings between Kothari and the couple, reviewing all agreements and examining the alleged misuse of funds.

Supreme Court Revokes Darshan’s Bail in Renuka Swamy Murder Case

The Supreme Court of India has overturned the bail granted to Kannada superstar Darshan, actress Pavitra, and five others in the Renuka Swamy murder case. The verdict was delivered by a bench comprising Justice J. B. Pardiwala and Justice R. Mahadevan after hearing a plea challenging the Karnataka High Court’s December 2024 decision to grant them bail.

While delivering the order, the bench observed, “The High Court’s order suffers from serious legal infirmities. It fails to record any special or cogent reasons for granting bail under Sections 302 and 34 of the IPC.”

This ruling means Darshan will return to jail just a day before the planned release of the song “Idre Nemdiyaag Irbek” from his upcoming film The Devil. The track was scheduled to drop on August 15, coinciding with Independence Day celebrations.

Darshan was arrested in June 2024 in connection with the brutal murder of his fan, Renuka Swamy. His bail, granted by the Karnataka High Court, has now been cancelled, paving the way for his return to custody as the case continues.

Former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has stirred a fresh political storm with sharp remarks against the Congress leadership, targeting Rahul Gandhi and Telangana CM Revanth Reddy.

Jagan alleged that both leaders have a secret understanding with AP CM N. Chandrababu Naidu. “Chandrababu has a hotline to Rahul and Revanth. That is why Rahul Gandhi is silent on the EVM fraud in Andhra Pradesh,” Jagan claimed.

The comments drew a strong counter from Congress leaders. AP Congress in-charge Manickam Tagore, whom Jagan had challenged to speak on the “vote chor” issue, fired back saying, “It’s easy for Jagan to sit and criticise Rahul Gandhi, who is fighting Modi and Amit Shah. We know Amit Shah is behind this electoral fraud, and also that Jagan has links with him, while Chandrababu is with Modi. If Jagan is serious about fighting vote fraud, let him join the Congress rally led by Sharmila in Vijayawada.”

Political observers say Congress has tactically used the Sharmila factor to corner Jagan. They know he is unlikely to share a stage with her, but rejecting the invite could weaken his claim that Chandrababu and Congress are in a truce.

In the process, Jagan’s attempt to target Congress and Chandrababu seems to have backfired, putting him in an uncomfortable political spot.
