Coolie Movie Review – Rajinikanth & Nagarjuna’s Action Clash
Lokesh Kanagaraj, the man behind Kaithi, Master, Vikram, and Leo, joins forces with Superstar Rajinikanth for Coolie—an action thriller that celebrates Rajini’s 50 years in cinema. Featuring a multi-industry cast including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Aamir Khan (cameo), the film surprisingly stands outside the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU).
Story
Deva (Rajinikanth), caretaker of a men’s mansion in Chennai, learns of the sudden death of his old friend Rajasekar (Sathyaraj). At the funeral, Rajasekar’s daughter Preethi (Shruti Haasan) accuses Deva of wrongdoing and sends him away. Soon, Deva discovers Rajasekar was murdered on the orders of Simon Xavier (Nagarjuna) and his associate Dayal (Soubin Shahir). Why was Rajasekar killed? What history does Deva share with Simon? The answers unfold in a tale of betrayal, revenge, and high-octane action.
Performances
Rajinikanth is magnetic—his style, dialogue delivery, and charisma are in full form. Nagarjuna is equally impressive as the suave yet ruthless Simon, clearly enjoying his antagonist role. Soubin Shahir is the surprise package, stealing scenes with a power-packed performance. Upendra makes an impact in limited time, while Rachita Ram delivers beyond expectations. Aamir Khan’s cameo, however, feels unnecessary and underwhelming.
Technical Aspects
Anirudh Ravichander’s background score boosts key sequences, especially the hostel and mansion action blocks, but occasionally leans on familiar motifs. Girish Gangadharan’s cinematography is polished but lacks the striking flair of Lokesh’s earlier films. Editing by Philomin Raj is inconsistent—tight in the first half, slack in the final act.
Positives
- Rajini–Nagarjuna face-off
- Soubin Shahir’s performance
- Two engaging twists
- Hostel & mansion action sequences
- Strong first half buildup
Negatives
- Slow start
- Weak, stretched climax
- Forced backstory & cameo
Verdict
Coolie isn’t the all-out mass fest some expected—it’s a story-driven thriller with flashes of Lokesh’s brilliance. A gripping first half, standout performances, and two superb action set pieces keep it engaging, but the dragged-out finale and unnecessary fan-service moments hold it back from greatness.
Sridevi & Boney Kapoor’s Untold Love Story

In the film industry, some relationships begin in the most unexpected ways. One such story involves a famous Bollywood producer who was already married with children when he fell in love with a popular actress from his own films. Despite his marital status, he relentlessly pursued her, insisting that she marry him. Reports suggest that the actress, uninterested in marrying him, avoided him for a while—skipping shoots and even cutting off communication. But he refused to give up, continuing to chase her with unwavering determination.
Eventually, love blossomed, and the actress found herself unable to resist the persistent suitor, even though she knew he had a wife and children. They secretly married, which triggered major tensions in the producer’s family. His first wife refused to accept the second wife, and the children from his first marriage were deeply disturbed. Still, the producer managed to steer his life forward with two wives in the picture.
The couple in question? Legendary actress Sridevi and producer Boney Kapoor.
Their love story has an unusual twist. When Boney’s mother learned about her son’s crush on Sridevi, she gave him a rakhi on Raksha Bandhan and asked him to have Sridevi tie it on him—hoping to end his infatuation. But Boney had other plans. Alongside the rakhi, he kept a thali (mangalsutra) ready, saying he intended to marry her instead. On June 2, 1996, Boney Kapoor and Sridevi secretly tied the knot in Shirdi. A year later, in 1997, they married publicly for the world to see. The couple went on to have two daughters—Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.
Samyuktha Sets Sights on Tollywood Success

It looks like Malayalam beauty Samyuktha has officially shifted her focus to Tollywood. The actress, who first rose to fame with Malayalam films, has been making her mark across South Indian cinema. She made her Telugu debut with Bheemla Nayak, impressing audiences in the role of Rana Daggubati’s wife. Since then, good opportunities have been coming her way, with her career experiencing its share of hits and flops.
Currently, Samyuktha is busier in Telugu cinema than in Malayalam. She has three big projects in hand—Akhanda 2 with Balakrishna, Naari Naari Naduma Murari with Sharwanand, and Swayambhu alongside Nikhil. For Swayambhu, she even learned horse riding to perfect her role.
Industry insiders believe that if even one of these films turns out to be a hit, Samyuktha will cement her place as a busy leading lady in Tollywood. Not just on screen, she has also been making her presence felt at Telugu events, regularly attending functions and even cheering for Sunrisers Hyderabad during the IPL. Her growing bond with Telugu audiences is becoming one of her biggest strengths.
Akhanda 2 is set for release on September 25, while the release dates for the Nikhil and Sharwanand films are yet to be announced. Known for grabbing every opportunity, Samyuktha isn’t afraid to work with senior stars like Balakrishna, even if some might see it as a career risk. With Swayambhu shaping up as a large-scale project and Naari Naari Naduma Murari already creating buzz with its teaser, all eyes are on how these films will shape her Tollywood journey.
Recently, she even attended the Mega Blood Donation event hosted by Chiranjeevi, further strengthening her connection with Telugu audiences. It’s clear—Samyuktha isn’t just working in Tollywood, she’s aiming to settle here for the long run.
Aamir Khan’s Sitare Zameen Par Breaks Records, Now on YouTube

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan needs no introduction. Known for his exceptional acting skills, he has earned a reputation as one of India’s finest actors. While continuing to shine in Bollywood, Aamir has also maintained warm ties with South Indian stars, even making appearances in their films, winning over Southern audiences as well.
Recently, he played a 15-minute cameo in Coolie, starring Rajinikanth and directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The film, already in theatres, is reportedly impressing audiences.
Apart from guest appearances in South films, Aamir’s latest Bollywood outing Sitare Zameen Par has also been a big success. Interestingly, instead of releasing it on OTT platforms, Aamir made the film available for rent on YouTube—surprising everyone. The film has reportedly grossed over ₹260 crore worldwide.
Speaking at a special screening with soldiers, Aamir revealed his approach to filmmaking:
“I am scared before every film. I’ve gotten used to accepting risky projects, so that fear is always there. But it’s that fear which pushes me to work harder.”
His comments have since gone viral on social media, with many netizens praising his dedication and hard work.
Released on June 20 this year, Sitare Zameen Par is a sports comedy-drama based on the 2018 Spanish film Champions. Produced under the Aamir Khan Productions banner by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, and directed by R.S. Prasanna, the film stars Aamir alongside Genelia Deshmukh. Made on a budget of ₹65–95 crore, it went on to collect ₹262 crore globally, becoming the third highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024 and the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of the year.
Since August 1, the film has been made available in both Hindi and Telugu for a rental price of ₹100 through the “Aamir Khan Talkies” YouTube channel.
Rashmika Hits Back at Targeted Trolling

Rashmika Mandanna feels she is being unfairly targeted, especially by competitors in the industry—actresses who, she believes, are envious of her growing Bollywood success and massive Instagram following.
In a recent interview, the actress revealed that she has faced trolling even for the most trivial remarks or actions. She suspects that certain groups may be investing resources to fuel these attacks, running a sustained negative campaign against her. While she offered no concrete proof, Rashmika pointed to the constant stream of online trolling and negative coverage as signs of a deliberate attempt to damage her image.
Meanwhile, on the professional front, Rashmika is gearing up for two big releases—The Girlfriend, a Telugu film directed by Rahul Ravindran, and the Bollywood project Tama, where she stars alongside Ayushmann Khurrana.
Nani Teams Up with Sekhar Kammula; Sai Pallavi Rumored to Join

Tollywood is abuzz with an unexpected collaboration—Natural Star Nani teaming up with acclaimed director Sekhar Kammula. Known for his simple yet impactful storytelling, Sekhar Kammula has rarely missed at the box office. Following the success of his recent hit Kubera, speculation is growing that his next project will feature Nani in the lead role.
Nani, celebrated for his versatility in both feel-good dramas and intense thrillers, recently impressed audiences with his dark turn in Hit 3. While he is currently shooting for The Paradise with Srikanth Odela, the prospect of his first collaboration with Sekhar Kammula has already generated significant excitement.
Adding to the anticipation is the rumor that Sai Pallavi may be cast as the heroine. If confirmed, this would mark another reunion with Nani after the hits MCA (2017) and Shyam Singha Roy (2021), both of which showcased their on-screen chemistry. Sai Pallavi also has a strong rapport with Sekhar Kammula, having delivered memorable performances in Fidaa and Love Story, with her Telangana-accent dialogues from Fidaa still beloved by fans.
Sai Pallavi is coming off a blockbuster with Naga Chaitanya’s Thandel and is currently portraying Sita in the big-budget Ramayana, alongside Ranbir Kapoor as Ram and Yash as Ravana. If she joins Nani and Sekhar Kammula, it would be a major casting coup, raising expectations for one of Tollywood’s most talked-about films in the coming year.
Fans are eagerly waiting for an official announcement, which could set the stage for a cinematic collaboration that promises both star power and compelling storytelling.
