AVPL dominated the box office right from its day 1 and hasn’t slowed down despite a notable release like Disco Raja.
2) Disco Raja: This science fiction action thriller was expected to give a break for Raviteja who has been going through lean phase post Raja The Great.
Disco Raja turned out to be a half-baked film that is neither here nor there. It is heading for a disaster at the box office as it failed to draw decent audience in its first weekend.
3) Sarileru Neekevvaru: Mahesh Babu’s Sarileru Neekevvaru has crossed the magical Rs. 100 Cr mark at the box office and is set to breakeven shortly.
It has had a decent weekend to help it get over the 100 cr mark. The film will end up at sixth place on the all-time list of top money spinners at the box office.
4) Entha Manchivadavura: Kalyan Ram’s attempt at family drama failed to yield desired result at the ticket windows.
The film couldn’t sustain the heat of Sankranthi biggies and ended up as a failure.
5) Street Dancer 3D: This dance based movie from Varun Dhawan – Remo D’Souza duo has once again proved its worth by netting around Rs. 48 Cr in its opening weekend.
It has topped the Bollywood box office by taking away the top seat from Ajay Devgn’s blockbuster period drama Tanhaji.
Kobe Bryant, 41, NBA legend, dies in helicopter crash
Los Angeles: Retired NBA star Kobe Bryant was one of nine people killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas of southern California on Sunday.
“It is with great sadness that we learn of the death of Kobe Bryant and four others in a helicopter crash in Calabasas,” the City of Calabasas confirmed on its official Twitter account, the Xinhua news agency reported.
The Los Angeles Lakers legend, five-time NBA champion and 18-time All-Star died at the age of 41.
The aircraft went down in a remote field off Las Virgenes around 10 a.m. Nobody on the ground was hurt, the city tweeted.
At a press briefing Sunday afternoon, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said that nine people were aboard the crashed helicopter – a pilot and eight passengers.
The Sheriff did not identify anyone on the flight, saying it was entirely “inappropriate” to do so at this time until the coroner made the identification to the next of kin.
TMZ first broke the tragic news, saying Bryant was travelling with at least three other people in his private helicopter when it went down.
According to a report, Bryant’s daughter Gianna Bryant, 13, was also on board and died. Bryant was on his way to a travel basketball game with his daughter when the helicopter crashed. Those aboard the helicopter also included another player and parent.
The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the helicopter crash, the FAA said in a statement.
“A S-76 helicopter crashed this morning under unknown circumstances near Calabasas, Calif. Local authorities say that five people were on board. Please check with local authorities for more information on the condition of the occupants,” the FAA said in its statement.
“Kobe Bryant was a giant who inspired, amazed, and thrilled people everywhere with his incomparable skill on the court – and awed us with his intellect and humility as a father, husband, creative genius, and ambassador for the game he loved,” Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti tweeted.
“He will live forever in the heart of Los Angeles, and will be remembered through the ages as one of our greatest heroes. This is a moment that leaves us struggling to find words that express the magnitude of shock and sorrow we are all feeling right now, and I am keeping Kobe’s entire family in my prayers at this time of unimaginable grief,” Garcetti said.
The Grammy Awards are set to be held later Sunday at Staples Center, where Bryant played in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers. During the pre-telecast for the Grammy Awards, a moment of silence was held for Bryant.
NBA athletes, officials and fans mourned the loss of Bryant, who was considered one of basketball’s greatest players of all time.
On Saturday night, Bryant tweeted his congratulations to LeBron James after he surpassed Bryant on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department responded to the scene near Las Virgenes Road and Willow Glen Street at around 10 a.m., the department tweeted. Flames that erupted in the crash have been extinguished.

Actress Mehreen said everyone is ‘Aswathama’ in their own life and how they react on crime incidents in the society depends on their individual perception.
‘Aswathama’ is making way at the box office this Friday and ahead of it, she interacted with the media to share her experience.
“This film is based on true events. When such incidents occur, we need to rethink about how society where it is heading too. Cinema is just a medium that can convey a particular message and ultimately everyone will take their own decision in life,” said Mehreen.
About hero Naga Shaurya, she said, “He is a very quiet person and hard working. He is always the first person to be seen on the sets. Though he penned the story, he did not get involved in the direction at all. Director Ramana Teja learned about direction in the US, so he made a gripping thriller.”
More about the film, Mehreen said, there are no comedy elements in this film but it will be engaging as there is lot of content.
“This thriller genre is first for me and hero Shaurya as well. It’s a good experience to do something different and I play the role of a lady who is possessive about his boyfriend but eventually she helps him to nab the culprits,” added Mehreen.
‘Aswathama’ is produced by Ira Creations and is releasing on January 31st.

Exhibiting his adoration and passion for the film for which he penned the story, Naga Shaurya has performed some unbelievable risky stunts.
More than anybody else, as a story writer, he knows what is required for the film, so has given his best.
Shaurya in the making video is seen jumping from a total of nine side-by-side buildings without using any body double or ropes. He appears fit and performed the stunts like a pro.
The best thing is the entire episode was filmed in single shot.

KCR to impose curbs on social media?
If Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has his way, there are soon going to be serious curbs on social media, which he feels, has been spreading hatred among the people and also running a negative campaign against the government.
According to KCR, during the just concluded municipal elections in the state, the opposition parties – the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party – extensively used the social media to troll the TRS, spread the message that the ruling party leaders were spending huge amounts to lure the voters.
The TRS chief was so much vexed with this negative campaign that he described social media as anti-social media and warned of stern action against people who hurl abuses on social media.
The chief minister was particularly annoyed at the comments made by the BJP leaders against him and his family during the election campaign in Nizamabad.
He also got the intelligence inputs that the violence in Bhainsa before the elections was mainly due to spreading of images in the social media by the BJP leaders.
Interestingly, Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan has also expressed his anger over making fake news viral in the social media by the YSRC leaders against him.
He was upset with the reports that went round in the social media that the previous TDP government had gifted 62 acres of land in Amaravati capital region.
He described the documents circulated in the social media as false.
Jana Sena legal cell will initiate legal action against the false campaigners and those who are making illicit posts on social media.
“We are going to file defamation cases against the false campaign,” Pawan said.
Nag And Chay Are Back To Do This Multi-Starrer

Once Nag wraps up his Wild Dog shoot and Chaitanya completes Sekhar Kammula’s Love Story, this film might go to sets.

Mahesh Babu To Undergo Surgery in US?
Mahesh Babu is likely to undergo a surgery. According to reports, Mahesh would undergo minor knee surgery for an injury which he had sustained in 2014 while shooting for Aagadu. Mahesh had hurt himself when he slipped on the sets of Aagadu.
Apparently, Mahesh underwent a surgery back then. But still the pain reportedly persists. Since Mahesh is busy with back-to-back shooting schedules, he had delayed it.
As the pain recurred and injury didn’t go away completely, the star reportedly undergoing another surgery. Now as per fresh reports, Mahesh would undergo fresh surgery in the US.
The actor is currently on break where is having a vacation with family in New York. Before beginning his next with Vamshi Paidipally, Mahesh would undergo the surgery and take some break.
Two select committees on capital bills?
Even as the YSR Congress party government in Andhra Pradesh is getting ready to adopt a resolution in the state assembly on Monday to do away with the state legislative council on the ground that it has become a hurdle for the implementation of government decisions, legislative council chairman Mohd Ahmed Sharif announced setting up of select committee to look into the bills.
According to sources, the legislative council chairman has constituted two select committees and not one, to study the two bills separately – one on repeal of AP Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) and the other on decentralisation of state administration by creating three capitals.
While finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy would be heading the select committee on decentralisation bill, municipal administration minister Botsa Satyanarayana would be heading the bill on repealing the APCRDA Act.
Sources said each committee would have five MLCs from Telugu Desam Party, two from YSRC and one each from Progressive Democratic Front and Bharatiya Janata Party. There could be one member from Governor’s quota.
The office of the Chairman of the Legislative Council has appealed to the parties to suggest the names of the members for the committees. A full-fledged committee will be formed after the committee members are nominated, sources said.

A video of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan went viral on Sunday, where the actor is seen expressing his views on religion.
The actor said these words on the set of a show, reports timesofindia.com.
He said: “Humne koi Hindu-Musalman ki baat hi nahi ki. Meri biwi Hindu hai, mai Musalman hoon. Aur mere jo bacche hain, wo Hindustan hain. Jab wo school gae to school me wo bharna padta hai ki religion kya hai. To jab meri beti choti thi, usne aa ke pucha bhi mujhse ek baar, ‘papa hum ka un se religion ke hain?’ Maine usme ye likha ki hum Indian hi hain y aar, koi religion nahi hai. Aur hona bhi nahi chahiye. (There is no such thing as Hindu-Muslim between is. My wife is Hindu and I am Muslim, my kids are Indian. When they went to school, we had to fill in the religion section. My daughter asked me awhat is our religion?’ and I wrote that we are Indian, we have no other religion and that shouldn’t happen either).”
