Tollywood cult classic Manam is all set for a grand theatrical release in Japan on August 8. Originally released in 2014, the film brought together three generations of the Akkineni family – ANR, Nagarjuna, and Naga Chaitanya – and became a massive success. It is also remembered as the legendary ANR’s final film.
Directed by Vikram Kumar, Manam tells a complex story in a simple and heartfelt way, which helped it resonate with audiences of all ages. Even during a recent limited re-release in Hyderabad, the film managed to pull full houses, proving the timeless love it enjoys.
The decision to release the movie in Japan is unique. While Indian films have been making their way to international markets, it’s rare for a decade-old movie to get a fresh release in a new country. The key reason behind this move is Nagarjuna’s rising popularity in Japan, especially after Brahmastra. The upcoming romantic comedy Little Hearts, an ETV Win original production, is all set to hit the big screens on September 12. Starring Mouli Tanuj of the 90’s web series fame and Shivani Nagaram in the lead roles, the film promises a refreshing mix of fun and emotion.
Produced jointly by Bunny Vas Works and Vamsi Nandipati Entertainments, the film is being released on a grand scale. Tesla Ordered to Pay $243M Over Fatal Autopilot Crash
In a major setback for electric vehicle giant Tesla, a federal jury in Miami has ordered the company to pay $243 million (around ₹1,996 crore) in damages following a 2019 crash in Florida that killed 22-year-old Naibel Benavides Leon and left her boyfriend, Dillon Angulo, with life-altering injuries.
The accident took place on April 25, 2019, in Key Largo. A Tesla Model S, driven by George McGee on Autopilot, plowed into a parked Chevrolet Tahoe at a rural intersection. The Tesla, traveling at 62 mph, failed to stop at a flashing red light and a stop sign. Benavides and Angulo, who were stargazing beside their SUV, were hit by the vehicle. Naibel was thrown 75 feet into nearby woods and died on the spot, while Dillon sustained multiple fractures and a traumatic brain injury.
Dashcam footage revealed that the Tesla’s Autopilot system failed to detect the stationary vehicle or apply the brakes. McGee admitted in court that he had been distracted at the time, looking for a dropped phone.
Despite the driver’s admitted negligence, the jury ruled that Tesla was 33% liable, determining that Autopilot was being used outside of its intended environment and was not designed to handle rural intersections. The jury awarded a total of $329 million in damages, with Tesla responsible for $43 million in compensatory damages and $200 million in punitive damages.
Tesla has announced plans to appeal, claiming the trial involved “a substantial error of law.” The company argued that the verdict discourages innovation in driver-assistance technologies and maintained that driver distraction alone caused the crash.
The trial also brought Tesla’s data practices and marketing under the microscope. The plaintiffs accused Tesla of concealing or misplacing critical crash data, including vehicle logs and video footage from before the impact. Although a forensic expert eventually recovered the data, Tesla admitted that it had been unaware of its location. This raised concerns about the company’s transparency, with critics alleging a pattern of withholding crash data—an allegation Tesla denies.
Plaintiffs further argued that Tesla’s branding of “Autopilot” and “Full Self-Driving” misleads consumers and encourages overreliance. They cited a 2016 Elon Musk statement that Autopilot could detect “anything, including an alien spaceship,” as well as a promotional video that overstated the system’s autonomous capabilities.
The verdict comes at a crucial moment for Tesla, as Elon Musk’s long-promised robotaxi initiative began operating in Austin in July 2025. Regulatory bodies, including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), are already investigating the safety of Autopilot and Full Self-Driving systems. NHTSA has linked Autopilot to 467 crashes, including 13 fatalities.
This ruling could mark a turning point for legal accountability in autonomous driving, forcing Tesla to confront growing scrutiny over both its technology and its marketing practices.
Trump Deploys Nuclear Submarines After Medvedev Threat
New York, Aug 2 (IANS) — Tensions between Washington and Moscow escalated sharply on Friday as US President Donald Trump revealed that he had ordered two nuclear submarines to be deployed to “appropriate” regions following a fiery exchange with former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.
Trump’s move came in response to Medvedev’s Telegram post criticizing his ultimatum to end the Russia-Ukraine war. Posting on Truth Social, Trump said, “Based on the highly provocative statements of Dmitry Medvedev, who is now Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that. Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences. I hope this will not be one of those instances.” He did not reveal the submarines’ locations.
The row began after Medvedev reacted to Trump’s decision to cut the ceasefire deadline between Russia and Ukraine from 50 days to 10. Trump had warned of tougher sanctions on Moscow and secondary sanctions on countries like India if there was no progress by the deadline.
In a post on Thursday, Trump wrote: “I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care. Let’s … tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory!”
Switching to Telegram, Medvedev issued a veiled nuclear threat, referring to Trump’s “dead economy” remark: “Let him remember his favorite films about the ‘Walking Dead,’ as well as how dangerous a ‘Dead Hand’ that does not exist in nature can be.” The “Dead Hand” is an automated Soviet-era system designed to launch nuclear weapons if Moscow’s leadership was destroyed — believed by some to still exist.
The latest rhetoric has been compared to the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. Unlike that standoff, which saw Moscow back down, this conflict involves mobile nuclear submarines that make the situation more unpredictable.
Medvedev has also mocked Trump’s plan to impose additional tariffs on BRICS countries, saying, “BRICS is gaining authority. Trump announced that an additional 10 per cent tariff would be imposed on any country that supports the BRICS policy. So, we’re doing everything right!”

Japan eVisa Process for Indian Travellers
From the busy crossings of Tokyo to the serene temples of Kyoto, Japan offers a stunning mix of modern energy and timeless tradition, an experience that is increasingly attracting Indian travelers. However, before planning a trip, it is important to understand Japan’s visa process, particularly the recently introduced eVisa system, which has made short-term travel easier. Indian citizens are required to obtain a tourist visa before visiting Japan, with two options available: the traditional sticker visa and the digital eVisa. Since April 2024, the eVisa has become the preferred option for many travelers because it allows a completely online application. Eligible Indian travelers, especially those living in countries such as the US, UK, Singapore, Australia, or Saudi Arabia, can apply directly through Japan’s eVisa portal. For applicants residing in India, all applications are processed through the VFS Global portal on behalf of the Japanese Embassy. The eVisa allows a single-entry stay of up to 90 days strictly for tourism and does not permit paid work or income-generating activities in Japan.
To qualify for this visa, applicants must hold a valid ordinary passport, enter Japan by air, limit their trip to 90 days, and travel only for tourism purposes. The required documents include a valid passport with at least two blank pages, a photocopy of the biodata page, a completed and signed visa application form, a recent passport-size photo, a cover letter specifying the purpose of travel, confirmed flight tickets and a detailed travel itinerary, proof of income such as income tax returns, proof of accommodation or hotel booking, and relationship proof if traveling with dependents. Applicants in India must download and fill out the visa form specific to their city and submit the required documents at the nearest VFS Japan Visa Centre. No appointment is needed except in Chennai and Bengaluru. The processing time is usually a minimum of five working days, although some travelers have reported approvals within 48 hours.
For eVisa applicants, approval comes in the form of a “visa issuance notice” that must be shown digitally at immigration counters. Screenshots or PDFs are not accepted; the notice must be accessed directly from the verified source. The fees include ₹500 for the visa and ₹800 for VFS service charges. Tourist visas are valid for three months from the date of issue and cannot be extended or renewed.

Recently, one of his statements has been going viral among audiences. This time, Madhavan gave a sharp counter to those who constantly criticize Bollywood and Kollywood.
“Every now and then, people say Bollywood is finished or Kollywood is falling apart. Every two years, this narrative pops up. The same goes for other industries. It has almost become a trend,” Madhavan said. He added, “Even when the industries bounce back, people continue to spread this ‘downfall’ story. I honestly don’t understand why they keep doing this.”
He made these remarks during the promotions of his latest OTT film Aap Jaisa Koi. Madhavan explained that ups and downs are a natural part of any field, and cinema—where success rates are relatively low—is no exception. “When things are going well, people praise. When there’s a setback, they trash talk. This is not fair. There should be balance in how we speak about these phases,” he said.
On the work front, Madhavan is currently busy with big projects like De De Pyaar De 2 and Dhurandhar. At the same time, he has also signed multiple Tamil films, with details about those projects expected to be announced soon.
