Cong hails Azhar win, but he is set to join TRS!

Share

Stage is set for the defection of former Indian cricket captain and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee working president Mohammad Azharuddin into the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi.

Azhar was on Friday elected president of Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). He defeated his nearest rival Prakash Chand Jain from former MP G Vivek panel by a margin of 74 votes.

The cricketer polled 147 votes as against 73 votes secured by Jain. But what is more important is that Azhar, despite being a Congress man, got the complete support from the ruling TRS which mobilised many votes in his favour.

In fact, it was pointed out by Vivek at a press conference a couple of days ago and alleged that Azhar had joined hands with the TRS to defeat his panel.

He also said in the next elections, it will be former TRS MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who will be the HCA president.

As expected, Azhar announced soon after the victory that he was going to meet TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and seek his blessings.

When asked whether he was joining TRS, he evaded answer and said it was not the time to talk about his joining the TRS.

Ironically, Azhar’s statement came at a time when the Telangana Congress leaders were celebrating his victory in the HCA elections.

The party workers burst fire crackers at Gandhi Bhavan to hail the victory and there were congratulatory messages from PCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy and others to Azhar.

But Azhar did not go to Gandhi Bhavan to celebrate, but declared that he had sought an appointment with KCR and KTR tomorrow!

Telangana Cong demands sacking of Gutha!

Share

Congress party in Telangana on Friday lodged a complaint with Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan against state legislative council chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy stating that he was directly campaigning for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in the by-elections in Huzurnagar.

In his representation to the Governor, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president & Nalgonda MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that Gutha was interfering in the election process of Huzurnagar by-election against all known constitutional norms and proprieties.

He said the council chairman had been bribing several local leaders from the Congress and forcing them to join the TRS.

“He has been openly telling them that he would become a minister in place of Malla Reddy or Jagadish Reddy if the TRS wins the Huzurnagar elections,” Uttam said.

The PCC chief also alleged that Gutha’s son Amit Reddy was a government contractor, doing several works worth thousands of crores of rupees in irrigation and drinking water projects in the State of Telangana.

“How can the legislative council chairman function impartially, when his son is doing government projects worth thousands of crores? So, he should be immediately sacked from the council chairman post,” Uttam demanded.

He urged the Governor to order a probe into the matter through central intelligence agencies. Further, the Governor might then consider asking for the resignation of Sukender Reddy on moral and ethical grounds, he appealed.

Will AP Have Its Own Formation Day?

Share

It has been more than five years since combined state of Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated to carve out separate Telangana state and the residuary part remained as Andhra Pradesh.

As per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, which had got the President’s assent on March 1, 2014, the appointed day for the new states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh is June 2, 2014.

It would mean June 2 will be the new formation day of both the Telugu states. Accordingly, Telangana has been celebrating June 2 as the “Telangana Formation Day” with a lot of pomp and gaiety.

But the residuary Andhra Pradesh has not been celebrating June 2 as the state formation day for various reasons.

First, the first government in residuary AP was formed on June 8, when Telugu Desam Party president N Chandrababu Naidu took oath as the chief minister.

Secondly, Unlike Telangana, Andhra Pradesh was not formed for the first time on June 2.

It had celebrated two formation days in the past – first on October 1, 1953 when the Andhra state was formed, after getting separated from Madras Presidency.

And second one on November 1, 1956, when Telangana was merged with Andhra to form a complete linguistic state of Andhra Pradesh.

Therefore, the question arose as to when AP should celebrate its formation day – June 2 or June 8 or October 1 or November 1.

Because of this dilemma, AP has not been celebrating its formation day for the last five years and is the only state in the country which still does not have such a day.

In fact, Naidu did not want to celebrate the formation day on June 2 and he chose to observe a week-long protest from June 2 to June 8, in the name of Nava Nirmana Deeksha, wherein he used to make the people of divided AP to take a pledge to build a Navyandhra (new AP).

He conveniently ignored the suggestions of intellectuals and other sections of people to choose either October 1 or November 1 as the State Formation Day or even June 2. He continued to organise Nava Nirmana Deeksha, every year in the last five years.

Now that a new government headed by YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was formed, the demand for choosing a day as AP Formation Day has come back to the fore.

Activist Chalasani Srinivas wrote a letter to the chief minister requesting him to start celebrating state formation day. He suggested that the formation day could be held on October 1, when Andhra was created from Madras State in 1953.

Since the name of the State is Andhra Pradesh, which was given on November 1, 1956, he also suggested that November 1 could be considered the state formation day.

One has to wait and see what Jagan would do now, since October 1 is fast approaching. He will definitely not go in for holding Nava Nirmana Deeksha as was done by Naidu. But it is time, the chief minister takes a quick decision on the same.

75 pc quota for locals not for IT firms!

Share

YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has been taking certain daring and dashing decisions ever since he assumed power on May 30 this year.

Some of his decisions have drawn a lot of criticism from not only the opposition parties, but also independent analysts.

Even the national media wrote negative stories about his decisions, without actually understanding the spirit behind the decisions.

This is mainly due to lack of proper information from the authorities and even the public relations wing officials could not properly take the message into the media.

Take for instance, the decision of Jagan government to provide 75 per cent reservation in the employment in the private sector.

This is a revolutionary decision to provide employment opportunities to locals, who are moving out to other states in search of jobs.

But, unfortunately, it was not properly projected in the media and even the PR department could not give proper clarification on this decision.

Everybody thought this rule is applicable to all private industries, including Information Technology industry, where the employability is very high.

This has triggered a lot of hue and cry in the national media, which found fault with the decision and said no software company would be able to come to Andhra Pradesh, if 75 percent-jobs-to-locals rule is implemented. The IT firms look for talent pool, wherever it is, and not the local factor.

For instance, a large percentage of employees in software companies in Bengaluru are Telugus and Tamilians. If the same rule is implemented in Karnataka, Telugus would lose the jobs.

The officials of the Jagan government failed to clarify was that the quota-for-locals rule is not applicable to software industry.

“It is there in the act that the rule is applicable only to manufacturing sector, not services sector. But the authorities failed to convey the same to the people properly, thereby creating panic,” an official said.

Brand Mahesh Babu Sells Big Despite Competition

Share

Mahesh Babu’s upcoming film Sarileru Neekevvaru is going to clash with another biggie Ala Vaikunthapuramulo for Sankranthi.

Both the movies will release within a gap of two days, which leaves little space for buyers to cash in on. Overseas territory is going to put a big test for buyers as both the films will have big release.

Despite competition, Sarileru Neekevvaru fetched superb price for its overseas rights.

According to our source a top distributor has bought the overseas rights of Sarileru Neekevvaru for Rs. 13.5 Crore. This is huge considering the recent lull in overseas business.

It is nearly Rs. 5 crore more than what Ala Vaikuntapuramulo was sold for. This is one of the strongest areas of Mahesh Babu, but this price is whopping considering the competition and recent downward trend of Telugu cinema business in North America.

Mahesh’s previous film Maharshi has done well in the domestic circuit, but ended up as a loss venture overseas. It didn’t even reach $2 Million mark while Bharat Ane Nenu collected around $3.5 Million.

However, Anil Ravipudi’s track record and Dil Raju’s record for Sankranthi also added to the craze and expectations on Sarileru Neekevvaru.

Share

In the wake of reports that one particular group of Uyyalawada descendants trying to take on the movie legally in the courts all the decks are now cleared for the release of magnum opus Sye Raa. Telangana High Court found that there is no need to stall the release of a film if the heirs of a particular public figure have some doubts over the portrayal of the person inside a movie.

Addressing the case other day Telangana High Court has asked Uyyalawada descendants to knock the doors of a civil court as they have made it clear that extracting 20 crores rupees money from Sye Raa makers with respect to the agreement signed by them is their main agenda. Also the court clarified that the duty of censor board is to ensure that the film is watchable by all sections of the society but they’re not going to stop issuing a certificate by looking into the facts behind the character created for the film.

After this judgment came out, actually censor board has given a certificate for the film with U/A rating. With this ruling expect that Sye Raa is going to hit the silver screen with a bang on October 2 as promised. Bankrolled by Ramcharan Sara has a megastar Chiranjeevi playing the role of film fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy.
