Aamir Khan to Star in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ₹400 Cr Fantasy Epic?

Share

Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Coolie with director Lokesh Kanagaraj is generating massive buzz. But interestingly, Coolie wasn’t the original project Lokesh wanted to do with Rajini. Before finalizing Coolie, Lokesh had narrated a socio-fantasy story with a powerful antagonist role in mind for the superstar. The film demanded a massive budget and an extensive shooting schedule of over 18 months. However, considering Rajinikanth’s stature and time constraints, the project was shelved and Lokesh moved forward with Coolie instead.

Now, there’s a new twist. The shelved fantasy script seems to have found a new lead – Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan. While Lokesh and Aamir have both publicly confirmed their intention to collaborate on a film, they haven’t shared further details. Buzz is that this very fantasy script originally written for Rajinikanth is now being tailored for Aamir.

Reportedly, AI-generated visual tests were conducted with both Rajini and Aamir’s looks in the role, and the results favored Aamir. Sources say the character suits him perfectly. Aamir is also keen to produce the project under his own banner, and the film could be mounted on a staggering ₹400 crore budget.

If the reports are true and everything aligns, this will be one of the most ambitious and unique films in Indian cinema. However, even if greenlit, it will take significant time before this project actually takes off.

Veera Mallu Sparks Political Storm in Telangana

Share

In a surprising turn of events, it appears that the BRS is now using cinema as a platform to fuel its anti-Andhra Pradesh narrative. The latest example comes from a public event where a targeted campaign against the Telugu film Hari Hara Veera Mallu was carried out—shockingly, in the presence of KTR.

At the event, BRS MLC Desapathi Srinivas openly criticized the Telangana government’s decision to hike ticket prices for Veera Mallu. He alleged that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had gone against his earlier promise of not increasing ticket prices, specifically pointing out Veera Mallu as an exception. According to Srinivas, the reason for the price hike was political—linking it to alliances between Pawan Kalyan, Chandrababu Naidu, Revanth Reddy, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Srinivas further claimed that Revanth’s main goal was to bring back the TDP flag in Telangana, and accused the government of manipulating policies to support that agenda. What caught the public’s attention even more was KTR’s visible amusement and acknowledgment of the speech, which is now being widely discussed.

Critics argue that connecting a film’s ticket pricing to broader political ambitions is far-fetched and misleading. In contrast, it’s important to remember that Telangana Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy had previously stated that the government would allow price hikes for culturally or historically significant films. Veera Mallu, which portrays a historical Hindu uprising against Mughal oppression, fits that criteria—indicating that the decision may have had legitimate grounds after all.

Regardless, the politicization of cinema is now under the spotlight, with Veera Mallu caught in the crossfire of Telangana’s volatile political climate.

Trump’s “Hire Americans” Pitch Alarms Indian Tech Talent

Share

Former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent call for Big Tech to “hire Americans”—not Indians—has sent ripples of concern through India’s student and professional communities, particularly those eyeing opportunities in the United States. The statement underscores a growing convergence of tightening U.S. immigration policies and rapid AI-driven disruption in the global job market.

Akshat Shrivastava, finfluencer and founder of Wisdom Hatch, took to X (formerly Twitter) to sound the alarm for Indian aspirants. “AI is eating jobs in general. But first, it will eat jobs that would be given to immigrants,” he warned. Shrivastava added that only a tiny fraction of “exceptional” individuals—like AI entrepreneur Aravind Srinivas or former Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal—may continue to thrive in the U.S. under such constraints.

The sentiment reflects recent developments surrounding the U.S. H-1B visa program, which has long served as a gateway for Indian IT professionals. With increased scrutiny and unpredictable approval outcomes, immigration attorneys are now advising caution—even discouraging overseas travel for visa holders—given the risk of reentry denials or employment disruptions.

Shrivastava emphasized the need for a mindset shift among Indian youth and professionals. “It is their land, they set the rules,” he said, urging a more pragmatic outlook rather than blame. He also criticized India’s current economic climate, pointing to high tax burdens on the country’s top earners. Under India’s 2025 tax regime, incomes above ₹24 lakh are taxed at 30%, with limited relief for the middle class. According to Shrivastava, this has created a two-speed economy: “Anyone who can escape, tries to. Anyone who is left, is taxed to death.”

As a solution, he advocates for Indians to pivot toward “tax-efficient” and globally mobile career paths. Freelancing, digital services, remote consulting, and one-person agency models in areas like AI, personal finance, and design offer greater control over income and tax liability.

“In this new world,” Shrivastava said, “agility, specialization, and remote leverage are key. Geography is becoming less relevant—but only if you build the right skills.”

India Raises Student Visa Delay Issue with US

Share

The Government of India has formally raised concerns with the United States over significant delays in issuing student visas, following the implementation of expanded screening and vetting procedures by US authorities. This development comes as thousands of Indian students prepare to begin their academic sessions at American universities.

Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh informed the Rajya Sabha that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had received numerous representations from students and their families citing difficulties in securing visa appointments. In response, the MEA has engaged both the US Embassy in New Delhi and the US Department of State in Washington to address the issue.

“Following these developments, the Ministry of External Affairs has received several representations from Indian students and their families flagging difficulty in obtaining student visa appointments,” Singh said in a written statement. “The Ministry took up the matter with the US Embassy in New Delhi as well as the US Department of State.”

Acknowledging that visa issuance remains the sovereign prerogative of each nation, Singh noted that India has “consistently raised” challenges faced by its citizens, particularly students, and remains committed to working with the US to establish frameworks that ensure secure and efficient legal mobility.

The delays follow a June 18, 2025, press release by the US Department of State, announcing broader screening protocols for visa applicants. The new measures include enhanced background checks and increased scrutiny of applicants’ social media presence for F, M, and J visa categories—typically used by international students.

According to Singh, the US has encouraged visa applicants to keep their social media accounts public, allowing officials to assess digital activity as part of the visa adjudication process. This move has triggered apprehensions among Indian students, many of whom fear delays or denials based on online content.

Indian nationals represent the largest group of international students in the US, contributing significantly to both academic institutions and the broader American economy. A bipartisan group of 14 US lawmakers, including three Indian-American members of Congress, recently urged the State Department to address the delays. Led by Congresswoman Deborah Ross, the group emphasized that Indian students contribute over $9 billion annually to the US economy and play a pivotal role in academic research and innovation.

Separately, the Indian government reiterated its cooperation with US agencies to combat illegal immigration and human trafficking. Singh stated that the MEA continues to issue regular advisories through its eMigrate portal, warning job seekers about fraudulent agents and employment scams. As of June 2025, over 3,500 illegal agents have been identified and flagged on the portal, with legal action being pursued against offenders.

Sir Madam Telugu Release Delayed Amid Heavy Box Office Clash

Share

The Tamil film Thalaivan Thalaivi, starring Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen, hit theatres worldwide today and opened to positive reviews. However, the Telugu-dubbed version titled Sir Madam missed its theatrical release in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, despite its trailer releasing a week ago.

The primary reason for the delay? Intense box office competition. Hari Hara Veera Mallu continues to dominate screens in its opening week. Simultaneously, Mahavatar Narasimha — backed by Hombale Films — secured strong distribution, while multiplex chains are actively promoting the urban drama Saira. Adding to the crowded release window, Hollywood’s Fantastic Four: First Steps also made its entry.

With limited screen availability, the makers of Sir Madam chose to postpone the release to avoid being overshadowed. While the Tamil version has been receiving praise for its humor, emotions, and solid entertainment quotient, the Telugu release now stands on shaky ground.

The challenge? Next week sees the arrival of Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom, followed by major releases like Son of Sardar 2, Coolie, and War 2. If Sir Madam doesn’t find a window next week, it may be forced to skip theatres and opt for a direct OTT release — a fate similar to Tourist Family, which debuted straight on Disney+ Hotstar.

Trade experts believe Sir Madam had strong potential to succeed, especially with good word-of-mouth if released today. But with this delay, it may have missed its golden opportunity at the box office.

Mohit Suri Thanks Sandeep Reddy Vanga for Supporting Sayara

Share

Mohit Suri, the acclaimed Bollywood filmmaker known for blockbusters like Aashiqui 2, Ek Villain, and Awarapan, has recently expressed heartfelt gratitude to Tollywood director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. This gesture has caught the attention of the Indian film industry, especially since Bollywood is often accused of looking down on regional cinema.

Mohit Suri’s latest release, Sayara, which hit screens on July 18, opened as a small film but has gone on to receive widespread acclaim and impressive box office numbers. Viewers are calling it a refreshing and much-needed success for Bollywood.

Interestingly, Sandeep Reddy Vanga was among the first to recognize Sayara’s potential. After watching the trailer, he took to social media to praise the film and declared that he would be watching the first-day, first-show. He even referred to the film as “Mohit’s magic.” Staying true to Vanga’s words, Sayara is now exceeding expectations and has collected over ₹150 crore in just one week.

Following this success, Mohit Suri thanked Sandeep Reddy Vanga publicly. He said that even when they hadn’t met in person, Sandeep supported Sayara right from its announcement. Mohit expressed that he deeply admires Sandeep not only as a filmmaker but also for his fearless approach to storytelling.

“I respect him for speaking his mind and find great inspiration in his style of filmmaking. It’s an honor to follow in the footsteps of people like him. I’ll always remain a fan,” Mohit wrote in his heartfelt post, which has now gone viral on social media.

Peddi Poised to Revive Mega Family’s Box Office Fortunes

Share

The Mega family has been facing a challenging phase at the box office. Chiranjeevi, Ram Charan, and Varun Tej have all encountered setbacks with their recent films. Even Pawan Kalyan’s much-anticipated comeback film, Hari Hara Veera Mallu, despite opening to the best numbers of his career, received mixed reviews and was heavily trolled for its subpar visual effects.

Collectively, the leading stars of the Mega camp haven’t delivered a clear-cut blockbuster in the last couple of years. As a result, expectations are now sky-high for their upcoming big releases — Pawan Kalyan’s OG, Chiranjeevi’s Vishwambhara, and Ram Charan’s Peddi.

Among them, OG has generated solid buzz, but it’s primarily seen as a Telugu mass entertainer and may lack wide pan-India appeal. That’s why fans are placing their biggest hopes on Peddi to restore the Mega family’s box office dominance.

Ram Charan’s intense physical transformation to portray a rugged sportsman, along with the powerful video glimpse released earlier, has significantly raised expectations. Fans are confident that director Buchi Babu Sana will extract a stellar performance from Charan and craft an emotionally resonant story.

Adding to the hype is the involvement of legendary composer A.R. Rahman, whose soundtrack is expected to elevate the film’s impact further.

Out of all the Mega family’s upcoming ventures, Peddi currently stands out as the strongest contender to become a true pan-Indian blockbuster.
