IAFC Hosted Social Security Seminar in Dallas

Dallas, TX: Indian American Friendship Council (IAFC) hosted a free admission including complimentary lunch seminar on “Social Security Information” to benefit the Indian American community in Dallas on Saturday September 7, 2019.

IAFC invited Public Affairs Specialist Angie Hoquang from the Department of Social Security Administration to give the presentation and answer the questions from community.

The event was well attended by more than 100 people with lot of questions. Mrs. Angie gave an impressive presentation touching various aspects of social security and answered many questions from the audience effectively.

The seminar lasted about two hours with an active audience participation. This event was well received, lauded the efforts of IAFC and requested organizers to host such kind of sessions on different topics to educate the aging Indian American community members.

Hon. Michigan State Representative Padma Kuppa attended the event as Chief Guest of Honor. IAFC President Dr. Prasad Thotakura introduced the Chief Guest Hon. Padma Kuppa to the audience.

Hon. Kuppa in her keynote speech appreciated the efforts of Dr. Prasad Thotakura and his team for all the community activities they organize. She felt such seminars are very essential to the community to dispel misinformation and misunderstandings about social security.

IAFC President Dr. Prasad Thotakura, Executive Vice-president Mr. Taiyab Kundawala, Vice-president Mr. Rao Kalvala felicitated Hon. Padma Kuppa and Angie Hoquang.

After the event, Hon. Michigan State Rep. Padma Kuppa visited the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial, the Largest Gandhi Memorial in the USA and paid floral tribute to Gandhiji as part of 150th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Gandhiji.

Community leader Mr. Subbu Jonnalagadda accompanied Mrs. Padma Kuppa to the memorial.

Despite $3 Million Haul, Saaho Looks at Huge Losses

By end of the 10 days of its run in the USA, “Saaho” has not posted any great numbers.

It is the only fifth Telugu film to have crossed the $3 million mark. But it is a too low amount for a movie which was sold at staggering prices.

“Saaho”, however, has witnessed little growth in its second weekend. In its second, the Prabhas starrer action drama has garnered nearly $180k, taking its total gross to $3 million.

The film was sold for a whopping Rs 43 Cr for overseas rights excluding China. This $3 million is the gross of all languages in USA.

We have to see whether this movie would touch the lifetime gross of ‘Rangasthalam’ and ‘Bharat Ane Nenu’.

Whatever the little money this would collect further doesn’t make up the losses. It has already been declared a huge dud in the USA market.

One good thing that Prabhas can rejoice is that the film didn’t crash totally at the USA box-office as other big duds did.

“Raju Gari Thota” also dispels the myth that such hotels don’t offer quick service and don’t maintain good taste. You don’t disappoint in those aspects.

Prashanth Neel met Mahesh Babu in the latter’s residence yesterday afternoon and the meeting went on for an hour. Prashanth Neel narrated a plot that left Mahesh Babu excited.

The meeting looked extremely positive and if things happen as per the plan, the project rolls during the second half of next year.

What’s so interesting about the project is that Prashanth Neel is in plans to make this a pan Indian project.

Prashanth Neel will work on the script and Mahesh will take the final call after listening to the final draft. Mahesh Babu’s GMB Entertainment will bankroll this big-budget project.

Telugu actress Shriya Saran and Andrei Koscheev are having the time of their lives ever since the couple got married in 2018.

Shriya spends very little time in India nowadays, and she is mostly on a tour with her husband.

Now, Shriya is enjoying her time in Barcelona along with Andrei. She took to Instagram to share a video of her dancing in the rain.

Is it the end of ‘rift’ between KCR’s family and Harish?

The cabinet expansion took up by Telangana CM KCR on Sunday has thrown open a new question in TRS whether the ‘rift’ between KCR’s family and T Harish Rao has ended.

KCR took not only into his cabinet but allotted him an all-important portfolio of finance, which is considered to be No. 2 in the cabinet after CM.

Though KCR did not take both his son KCR and nephew Harish into cabinet for the past nine months after coming to power for second term in December 2018, Harish’s exclusion fuelled speculations that KCR’s family did this only to sideline Harish both in government and the party and to pave way for smooth takeover of party and government by KCR’s son, when KCR decides to retire from politics.

This speculations spread like wild fire after KTR was promoted as party’s working president by KCR while not giving any party position to Harish, soon after KCR becoming CM for second term in December 2018.

However, the latest expansion done by KCR by inducting both KTR and Harish into his cabinet was expected to put an end to these rumours at least for the time being.

But Harish supporters within TRS are learnt to be upset over KCR giving finance portfolio to Harish for a mass leader of a stature of Harish as it has no contact with common people and he will be confined to be a “Secretariat minister’, unlike earlier when Harish was irrigation minister in KCR’s first cabinet, which brought him good recognition as a minister who speeded up Kaleshwaram project, Mission Kakatiya etc.

But in finance department, he has nothing much to do and especially at a time when Telangana is staring at economic recession as being witnessed globally and across India due to which the Telangana government earnings have been declining fast.

In these circumstances, will Harish remain as a ‘non performing minister’ in finance department? Will Harish be satisfied with this portfolio which does not suit a mass leader like him?

Will Harish be happy to work wholeheartedly in a department which gives him no recognition? Will he and his supporters feel happy and work wholeheartedly for the government and party?

These are the questions being raised in TRS now after cabinet expansion, especially after Harish was given finance ministry.

Nick Cried After Watching Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra’s next, The Sky is Pink, is a Hindi biographical drama and it is scheduled to have its world premiere on September 13. The actress, who is at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), is all set to entertain Indian audience after a long break of three years from Bollywood. The film is being directed by Shonali Bose and will have a release on October 11.

In one of the recent interviews, Priyanka said that her husband Nick Jonas cried while watching her performance in The Sky Is Pink. The actress was shooting for the film til her wedding date approached and Nick used to be on sets along with her. “We were doing prep for the wedding on set and my co-producers and Shonali, they were so accommodating” said Priyanka.

Both Priyanka and filmmaker Shonali said that when the actress was doing a very, very intense scene, everyone heard a sniff there and when they turned, it was Nick standing next to Shonali and weeping like a baby. “You have made your husband cry. This is a great scene,” happily shouted Shonali.

Priyanka will be seen in a mother role, Aditi, who struggles with the emotional and financial woes of her newborn suffering through a serious immune deficiency. So, if you are the type of person who gets emotional watching a film, then be prepared to have a serious session of weeping. Moreover, Priyanka’s exceptional acting will make it a good-tear jerker.

KCR’s cabinet: Only inductions, no removals!

Telangana CM KCR expanded his cabinet today. KCR sprang a surprise by confining to new inductions into his cabinet and not resorting to removal of any minister, contrary to the expectations and speculations made by local Telugu and English media.

KCR inducted KT Rama Rao, T Harish Rao, Puvvada Ajay, Gangula Kamalakar, Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sathyavathi Rathod into his cabinet.

There were six vacancies in the KCR’s cabinet and KCR filled all the vacancies on Sunday.

The expansion came as a big relief to health minister Etela Rajender as there were widespread speculations in media that KCR will sack Etela because Etela had expressed open resentment against party leadership recently.

The expansion also came as a relief to minister Ch Malla Reddy, Allola Indrakaran Reddy as there were reports that both would be sacked and replaced by the new ones.

But KCR only confined to filling the existing six vacancies and did not touch any of the incumbent ministers despite the fact that the ministers representing Nizamabad district, Karimnagar district and Adilabad district did not perform well in recent Lok Sabha polls and did not contain BJP in their districts.

KCR has no habit of changing ministers frequently now and then. This expansion indicates that these 18 ministers will continue for the remaining four years of TRS government’s tenure and there is no scope for any new ones to get cabinet berths in future.

KCR gave representation to women ministers for the first time in TRS government. He inducted two women into his cabinet.

KTR gets back IT, Harish moved to Finance

Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who completed his cabinet formation totally by inducting six ministers on Sunday, retained the major irrigation portfolio with himself, apparently to ensure that he gets all the credit for the mega irrigation projects like Kaleshwaram and Palamur-Ranga Reddy.

KCR’s nephew T Harish Rao, who held the irrigation portfolio between 2014 and 2018 and was instrumental in executing Kaleshwaram project and also Mission Kakatiya, is now back in the cabinet after a gap of nine months. He has now been entrusted with the portfolio of Finance.

He will be reading out his first budget speech in the assembly on Monday, when the monsoon session will begin to approve the full-fledged budget.

However, the chief minister returned the same old portfolio of Information Technology, Municipal Adminstration and Industries to his son K T Rama Rao, who held the same during his first tenure of the TRS government.

While Sabita Indra Reddy, who was minister for mines and geology in the Y S Rajasekhar Reddy cabinet between 2004 and 2009 and first woman home minister of combined Andhra Pradesh between 2009 and 2014, has now been given higher education portfolio.

Hitherto, the higher education portfolio was with G Jagadeesh Reddy, who allegedly bungled in the declaration of Intermediate examination results properly. He has now been shifted to power.

The portfolios of other ministers are: Satyavathi Rathod: Women, child and tribal welfare, Gangula Kamalakar: BC welfare and civil supplies and Puvvada Ajay: Transport.
