Farmers’ suicides: Families to get Rs 7 lakh

Share

In yet another effort to prove that his government is pro-farmer, YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday announced payment of Rs 7 lakh to each of the families of those farmers who had committed suicide owing to debt burden in the last five years.

Jagan, who held a videoconference with district collectors and superintendents of police in the Secretariat, directed that all the families of the farmers who had committed suicide between 2014 and 2019 be given Rs 7 lakh each.

He also announced enactment of a law to ensure that the compensation being paid to the families of suicide victims did not get diverted and no other person other than the family could claim the money.

Quoting district crime records bureau statistics, Jagan said as many as 1,513 farmers had committed suicide in the last five years.

But the previous Telugu Desam Party government headed by N Chandrababu Naidu had given compensation to only 391 farmers’ families.

“It clearly showed the previous government had miserably failed to come to the rescue of farmers,” the chief minister said.

He directed that the officials verify the data and if there were any families eligible to get the compensation could be given the money immediately.

He also asked the officials to take the local MLAs into confidence and implement the programme.

“If there is any such unwarranted incident of suicide of a farmer or a tenant farmer, the district collector should immediately respond. They should not wait for directions from the chief minister’s office,” Jagan said.

Guna 369 bags decent business before Release

Share

Tollywood has been a golden stage for most of the debutants who tried their luck with captivating, realistic and relative scripts and performances in recent times.

Among the list of few who successfully captured the opportunities, Hero Kartikeya stands ahead with 4 films lined back-in-back for release this year.

His RX 100, directed by RGV’s associate Ajay Bhupati has been a massive hit at box-office for its much engaging realistic story.

Despite noting a debacle with Hippi recently, he’s trying to resume his success spree by choosing the engaging scripts from the debut directors for his upcoming flicks.

As per the reports, Kartikeya is now into 4 movies namely; Guna 369 directed by debutant Arjun Jandyala, Shekhar Reddy’s debut 90ML, Directional debut of Sree, Creative Director Vikram K. Kumar’s “Gang Leader” opposite Nani as Antagonist.

So, among them, Guna 369 has been making a good buzz right from the beginning and it successfully garnered a positive response from industry biggies and the audiences for its earlier released First look Teaser.

Also, Malayali Actress Anagha Maruthora is debuting into Telugu opposite Kartikeya in this movie while Tirumal Reddy and Anil Kadiyala is producing it under Sprint Films, Gnapika Productions and SG Movie Makers banners.

Announcing the release date to be on August 2nd, makers have already bagged a decent business before release and thus paced up the post production works on full speed.

Why So Much Noise About Allu Arjun’s Icon?

Share

Allu Arjun is currently busy with #AA19 directed by Trivikram. His next #AA20 has been locked with Sukumar and Mythri Movie Makers.

But a lot of noise is being heard about #AA21 although there is a lot of time for it to start rolling.

Allu Arjun’s twenty first film has been finalized under MCA director Sriram Venu’s direction. Title of #AA21 is ICON and is produced by Dil Raju.

Despite being third on the to-do list of Allu Arjun, the film is frequently being in news for various reasons.

Earlier there were reports that Nivetha Pethuraj has been roped into play the female lead in ICON. But now we hear that Rashi Khanna gets to romance the Stylish Star for the first time.

Neither Allu Arjun nor Dil Raju is responding to these rumors, but somehow ICON is turning out to be the most talked about film among Bunny’s upcoming movies.

Is this a deliberate ploy from Allu Arjun’s team to exert pressure on Sukumar to lock the script for #AA20 or is it Dil Raju behind this publicity hungama?

Left blames Pawan for election losses!

Share

If at all there are any big opportunists in politics, they are Communists. The Left parties are known for changing their stand frequently and do not hesitate to join hands with the parties which were hitherto their bitter enemies.

All that they want is to win three or four assembly seats or MP seats and for that, they don’t hesitate to join hands with any party that suits their interests.

In Andhra, the CPI and CPI (M) had forged alliance with the Congress party in the past, dumped the same later and joined hands with the Telugu Desam Party. They backed Praja Rajyam Party for some time.

In the recent assembly elections, the Communist parties entered into an alliance with the Jana Sena Party headed by popular actor Pawan Kalyan, hoping that they could win a few seats to retain their identity. But the alliance failed miserably.

While Jana Sena could win just one seat, the Communists lost their deposits in all the places.

Now, they are blaming Pawan Kalyan for the loss in the elections.

On Wednesday, CPI state secretary M Nageshwar Rao alleged that Pawan had a secret understanding with TDP led by N Chandrababu Naidu and that led to the defeat of the alliance, as the people did not believe them.

“Chandrababu Naidu did not campaign for the TDP in Gajuwaka and Bhimavaram. Similarly, Pawan Kalyan did not campaign for Jana Sena in Mangalagiri and Kuppam. It clearly shows that Pawan and Naidu were hand in glove with each other,” he alleged.

One wonders why the Left parties did not raise the issue during the elections. Didn’t they know it during the elections that Pawan and Naidu were supporting each other? Why did the Communists keep quiet then?

Setback to defected Telangana MLCs!

Share

In a rude setback to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi MLCs who defected to the Congress before the recent assembly elections, the state high court on Wednesday dismissed their petitions challenging their disqualification.

The three MLCs – Ramulu Naik, Bhupati Reddy and Yadava Reddy were disqualified by legislative council chairman Swamy Goud for defecting to the Congress before December 7 assembly elections.

The MLCs filed a petition in the high court, challenging their disqualification. Though the court had not given any stay on their disqualification, it asked the Election Commission not to hold elections to their three seats till the case is disposed.

On Wednesday, the high court struck down the petition of the MLCs. It, however, allowed them to move the Supreme Court for seeking remedy.

The MLCs appealed to the high court to direct the EC not to conduct the elections till the Supreme Court gives its verdict.

The high court asked the EC to examine the possibility of putting the elections to the three MLC seats on hold.

Ramulu Naik argued that he was neither a TRS member nor had he joined the Congress, but was nominated to the council by Governor under social service quota.

So, the question of his disqualification under anti-defection law does not arise. But the TRS had produced evidences to show that he had indeed joined the Congress party.

Similarly, Yadava Reddy and Bhupati Reddy also argued that they got elected as MLCs under local bodies’ quota on non-party basis.

Since they were not elected as MLCs on the B-form given by the TRS, they cannot be treated as TRS MLCs and hence, they, too, do not come under anti-defection law.

But, the court felt that there was no merit in their argument as they were shown as TRS MLCs in the council and hence, their defection was against the anti-defection law.

TDP’s 40% Is Bigger Than Those 23 MLAs

Share

The big heading that is doing rounds in anti-TDP media houses these days is “Is Telugudesam party completely crushed?”. And then pro-TDP media houses try to counter this by saying that they have bounced back many times and this is not any new crisis. Well, the first thing is, everyone has to get into statistics to understand the situation.

Firstly, TDP’s MLA count is just 23, which is quite low, but that doesn’t mean they are out of the show completely. While YS Jagan led YSR Congress fetched nearly 50% votes, TDP got 40% votes in the election while Janasena and others took that 10% share. In many regions, TDP lost the election only by a meagre margin only. In that case, with 40% of the voters still believing in TDP, how come the cycle-walas will be ruled out or crushed as they say?

Most importantly, currently the morale of TDP cadres is at atmost low due to the massive defeat but always there will be a chance to bounce back in the wake of current political situation. Like the way Congress waited for 10 years after 1994 defeat in Andhra Pradesh, even TDP has to play the waiting game well, and definitley there is no chance to say that the party will be wiped out.

Because people will look forward for alternatives no matter how better governance any political party offers, and opponents always gets chance to win their mandate.

‘BJP appoints CMs in bars and restaurants!’

Share

A change of opinion among some Karnataka legislators has yet again created problems for the Congress-JDS government and this time, it is much worse than earlier. The political tension is back in the state after an independent legislator H Nagesh, who’s inducted into cabinet recently, decided to make an exit from the coalition government. Also, his image with the personal assistant of BJP’s chief Siddaramaiah at Bengaluru airport has further caused a rumour that BJP is behind this turmoil.

Reacting to it, the senior Congress leader and former CM of Jammu Kashmir Gulam Nabi Azad has accused BJP’s hand in this crisis. He further commented: “Yeddyurappa’s PA was in the plane with rebel MLAs. BJP appoints its Chief Ministers in bars and restaurants. They’ve done the same in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh too.” Even though BJP made an attempt to distance itself from such allegations, Congress is attacking the Saffron party with those photographs.

On other hand, speaker of Karnataka assembly hasn’t approved the resignations of 8 MLAs citing that they didn’t tender the resignations in prescribed format.

A complete ban on bauxite mining in AP

Share

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy has withdrawn the government order (G.O.) 97 that allows AP Mineral Development Corporation (APMDC) to mine bauxite ore in the Eastern Ghats in Visakhapatnam district.

The previous TDP government on November 5, 2015 allowed APMDC to mine in 1,212 hectares of reserve forest area in Chintapalle and Jerella. Tribals, NGOs and social and environmental activists have made numerous protests against this. As the protests grew, then government put the G.O. on hold and did not touch it later on.

This issue even got the notice of the new CM Jagan and after giving a thought, he decided to completely ban bauxite mining. The activists who are protesting against mining, welcomed the government’s decision.

However, bauxite is being secretly mined at few places and CM Jagan has ordered the police to take appropriate measures to end the secret mining as well. Jagan instructed the police to visit tribal places constantly and win the trust of people.
