Jagan Mohan Reddy invites TDP chief for swearing-in

Share

Amaravati: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister-designate Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday invited TDP chief N. Chandrababu Naidu for his swearing-in ceremony.

Reddy called Naidu on the phone to invite him to the ceremony slated to be held on Thursday, TDP sources said.

Reddy was also learned to have sought the outgoing Chief Minister’s advise and suggestions for the state’s development.

The YSRCP chief is inviting leaders of various parties to the ceremony.

He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah in Delhi two days ago to extend an invitation. He earlier visited Hyderabad to invite Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.

The YSRCP stormed to power by winning 151 seats in 175-member Andhra Pradesh Assembly last week.

All YSR favourites eager to join Jagan?

Share

It looks like several IAS and IPS officers who were calling shots during the regime of former chief minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy in the combined Andhra Pradesh between 2004 and 2009 are eager to join the government headed by his son and YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

The proposed appointment of senior IPS officer Stephen Ravindra as the state intelligence chief and continuation of L V Subrahmanyam as the chief secretary is a clear indication to the development.

While Ravindra served as superintendent of police in the Chief Minister’s Security wing during the YSR regime and is said to be closer to YSR family, Subrahmanyam held key positions in YSR government and was one of the accused in the Emaar Properties scandal that surfaced during the period.

Ravindra reportedly met Jagan well before the election results and expressed his desire to serve him.

Accordingly, soon after the results were declared, Jagan decided to appoint Stephen Ravindra as his intelligence chief, by requesting Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to relieve him and send him to AP on deputation.

The latest information is that senior IPS officer Sri Lakshmi also reportedly wrote to the Telangana government to relieve her and send her on deputation to Andhra Pradesh.

Sri Lakshmi was also once closer to YSR and faced allegations of helping Jagan’s friend Gali Janardhan Reddy in the Obulapuram mining scandal.

If the reports are to be believed, even senior IAS officer B P Acharya is keen on coming to Andhra Pradesh on deputation. Acharya was also involved in the alleged quid pro quo deal case filed against Jagan.

Similarly, another senior official N V Ramana Reddy, who was Secretary (Protocol) during YSR regime, is also learnt to have met Jagan and expressed his interest to join the AP government.

Another Indian Information Services officer N Venudhar Reddy, who was looking after the Information wing of the YSR government in Delhi, is expected to join the Jagan government as Information Commissioner.

Senior police officials Gautam Sawang, A K Meena and P S R Anjaneyulu, who were believed to be close confidants of YSR, are also going to adorn key positions in Jagan government, sources said.

Naidu looks pale at NTR birthday fete!

Share

For the first time, the birthday celebrations of Telugu Desam Party founder and former chief minister N T Rama Rao were held in a completely lack-lustred manner on Tuesday, as the party faced humiliating defeat in the just concluded assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh.

After a gap of five days, Naidu surfaced in public at the TDP headquarters in Guntur to pay homage to his father-in-law.

Though hundreds of TDP workers attended the celebrations, the euphoria among them was glaringly missing as they looked dejected over the defeat of the party.

Naidu himself looked very pale and dull, as he garlanded the statue of NTR and addressed the party workers briefly.

The fire in his voice was missing as he made a routine address saying the party had strength and workers have the moral courage to withstand the turbulence.

“The TDP workers had made immense sacrifices. We did our best to provide good governance to the state and took up the development and welfare programmes. NTR should be an inspiration to us. He did not lose courage despite facing several setbacks. We should learnt from his experiences and play a constructive role in the opposition,” Naidu said.

He further said he would be available to party leaders and cadre at Guntur office from Wednesday.

He said he would spend at least three hours in Guntur party office and monitor party affairs regularly.

NTR’s grandson and former minister Nara Lokesh also participated in the programme along with TDP state president Kala Venkatrao, senior leaders Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Prattipati Pulla Rao and Nakka Ananda Babu.

What’s The Future Of Polavaram Project?

Share

After winning with a thumping majority in Andhra Pradesh Assembly Elections, YSR Congress Chief Y.S Jaganmohan Reddy who met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi recently is said to have discussed about the Polavaram project in detail.

According to sources, it is learnt that Jagan has asked the Centre to take over rest of the project while he expressed that the debt-ridden state will not involve in the project anymore. Apparently, he has also instructed IAS officers to inform Navayuga Company to withdraw from executing the project. Navayuga has taken over the Polavaram Project after discrepancies were reported when the work was being executed by Transtroy under the previous government.

There is information that Navayuga is very upset with this decision of Jagan and is believed to be mulling other action plans before it takes a call. Meanwhile, Jagan has made it clear that with such huge debt already reeling on his shoulders as he is yet to take over as the CM of AP, he may not be able to execute the national project and hence, is believed to have informed the PM about it.

Political observers say that this could be a good move as the state is already out of money and flushing more money into the project when the Centre is already funding it, is not a good idea at this time. Additionally, it will also reduce the state’s financial burden. However, his critics have been saying that if the project is stalled, then Rayalaseema will continue to be under severe drought conditions. Well, we are yet to see the repercussions of this move.

KTR Gives A Reason For Kavitha’s Defeat

Share

The working President of Telangana Rashtra Samithi, KTR has on Tuesday denied speculation that former Irrigation Minister Harish Rao is being ignored by party.

Also, KTR wasn’t ready to agree that nominations by large number of farmers was a reason for his sister Kavitha’s unexpected defeat in Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency. ‘Kavitha’s defeat was unintended and farmers who filed nominations cannot be blamed for it. Infact, they were not farmers but Congress karyakarthas. A leader from Jagityal directed his 93 associates to do that job. The internal understanding between BJP and Congress led to Kavitha’s defeat. Whatever, I and Kavitha been through several hardships in past and this one won’t affect us.’

He further denied that TRS would have faced the disappointing results, if both Lok Sabha and assembly elections held at same time. ‘In Odisha, both Assembly and LS polls happened at once, but Naveen Patnaik retained power in state,’ said KTR.

Reacting about meeting with YS Jagan Mohan Reddy recently, KTR said that it is everyone’s wish that both states should maintain a friendly regain.

Why Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy Exited From Saaho?

Share

For Young Rebel Star Prabhas, Saaho is a very crucial film since it is coming after blockbuster ‘Baahubali’ series. Just a few days back, the makers of the film also announced release date as August 15th, but what is shocking is the sudden exit of music composers Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.

The Bollywood musical trio announced their exit from the project on social media. Now that the principal shooting of the film is coming to an end, their departure is worrying fans. Freshly, at a press meet, musician Shankar gave reasoning for their stepping out of Saaho.

‘The makers of Saaho were trying to get another musician to score some songs in the film, but we are not comfortable with it. So, we decided to opt out. During a discussion with producers, we made it clear that we don’t like to be onboard along with other musicians. For a composer to earn respect & reputation, he has to work solely for that project.’ – said Shankar

‘We also planned to compose the background score for Saaho, but the makers had someone else to do that job. They should have atleast allowed us to score complete the audio album, but we were not comfortable with it. However, we (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy) do not consider ourselves as multiple musicians,’ he added.

Almost all the new legislators elected for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly are crorepatis and half of them have criminal records. Over 90 per cent, 163 of the 174 legislators, are crorepatis. The average assets per legislator stood at Rs 27.87 crore.

The outgoing Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu is the richest among all in the new House with assets worth Rs. 668 crore. Next comes, Chief Minister-designate and YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy with Rs. 510 crore worth assets and Nandamuri Balakrishna (Naidu’s brother-in-law) with Rs. 275 crore.

The Opposition TDP has the maximum percentage of crorepatis. As many as 22, or 96 per cent, out of the party’s 23 legislators are crorepatis, while 93 per cent of the 150 YSRC legislators, are crorepatis. The average assets of TDP MLAs are worth Rs. 64.61 crore, while that of YSRC legislators is pegged at Rs. 22.41 crore. Nagulapalli Dhanalakshmi (East Godavari) is the poorest of the YSRC legislators with assets worth Rs. 6 lakh.

More than half of the legislators (96) elected to the Assembly in the recent polls have criminal cases against them. Over 32 per cent of the total strength of the House (55 MLAs) have declared that serious cases were filed against them. Andhra Pradesh Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) has released an analysis of antecedents of the legislators elected to the state Assembly.

Over 86 legislators, which means 57 per cent out of the 150 legislators of the YSRC, and nine out of the 23 TDP MLAs declared criminal cases against them. The profile of Chodavaram MLA Dharmasri was not considered for the analysis due to lack of clarity in the documents he uploaded on the Election Commission’s website. The lone legislator, belonging to Jana Sena too declared criminal cases registered against him.

The analysis found that 33 per cent (50) of the YSRC legislators declared ‘serious criminal cases’. Six of the 174 legislators were booked under provisions related to crime against women, such as assault or using criminal force against woman with an intent to outrage her modesty.

One of the YSRC legislators is charged with a murder case (IPC Section 320), 10 MLAs of different parties face attempt to murder charges (IPC-Section 307). Seven legislators are charged with kidnapping cases while eight declared convictions in several cases.

Won’t Leave TDP Till My Last Breath’

Share

Ever since YSRCP swept AP in 151 seats out of 175 seats, there has been strong speculation in political circles that several senior leaders of TDP and former ministers who lost in the polls could jump to ruling YCP to save themselves for next 5 years. It is strongly buzzed that former Civil Supplies Minister and ex Guntur district TDP president Prathipati Pulla Rao could be one among them who would cross over to YSRCP.

Responding to the wide-spread rumours on him in social media platforms, Prathipati has responded strongly. He quashed all such rumours as baseless. He said he will not join YCP and he made it clear that he will not leave TDP until his last breath.

“Many people are spreading rumours on me that I will leave TDP and I will join YSRCP. There is no truth in it. Some malicious campaign is going on against me in social media that there are cases against me and that is the reason why I would join YSRCP. I would like to clarify that there are no cases against me whatsoever. I have not done any mistake at all. I will continue in TDP till my death,” said Prathipati.

Prathipati also warned those who are spreading lies against him and those who running “malicious” campaign against him.

TRS govt and GHMC ignore NTR Ghat

Share

Every year a day before NTR’s birth and death anniversary, it’s the Telangana government and GHMC’s responsibility to decorate the NTR Ghat at Necklace road. But on Tuesday, NTR Ghat was looking completely dull as appropriate arrangements were not made. Upset by this Jr NTR said he would take up the responsibility from next year.

Not just Jr NTR, even the Telugu Desam supporters are unhappy over this. They have blamed TRS government and GHMC for ignoring to make adequate arrangements. “Politics is the other thing but NTR is a person who is out of politics and he is a Telugu Pride. At least this, the TRS government has to remind it. By not decorating the venue, it is insulting NTR,” said the TDP supporters.

“If the TRS government had informed us prior, we would have made arrangements by our own. Where are the politicians to whom NTR gave a life and who roamed around him when they were in TDP and are now in TRS,” questioned few.

Andhra Pradesh State Women Commission chairperson Nannapaneni Rajakumari tried to meet Chief Minister-elect and YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy at his camp office but could not as he was not available. It is learnt that following YSRCP’s thumping win, she has been desperately trying to meet him.

Rajakumari reached the camp office to meet Jaganmohan Reddy but learning that he had already left home, she could not meet him. There is a chance for Rajakumari to meet him on Wednesday as he will be on a visit to Pulivendula and may visit Tirupati today.

Rajakumari, who has been with the Telugu Desam Party, tried to meet Reddy to congratulate him on his party’s landslide victory it registered in the Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh. According to sources, it is learnt that Nannapaneni has been trying to meet Jagan to request him to keep the current post to herself and not remove her from the post.
