Dear Comrade Movie Review

Share

Terrific soundtrack, Geetha Govindam pair and aggressive promotions have set high expectations on Dear Comrade. But did the debut director Bharat Kamma deliver a product that can meet those expectations? Let’s analyze…

What is it about?

Chaitanya a.k.a. Bobby (Vijay) is a angry youngster who fights for the rights of students. He falls in love with Aparna a.k.a. Lilly (Rashmika), a state level cricketer. But his anger issues create a rift between them. They meet after three years, but by then Lilly is going through depression phase and Bobby helps her come out of it. Lilly wants to live her rest of the life with Bobby, but he asks her to restart her cricketing career. There is a serious problem with that as Lilly refuses to look back.

Performances:

Vijay Deverakonda appears as a angry and emotional person Bobby who goes through various phases in life. Vijay does complete justice to his character by appearing in different looks in different phases. His screen presence and performance fuels Dear Comrade in spite of its shortcomings. Rashmika does a challenging role and she has given a decent performance. An experienced actress would have been a better choice. The story revolves around these two characters and the remaining cast is restricted to the background. Charuhaasan, Shruti Ramachandran and Suhas make their presence felt.

Technicalities:

Bharat Kamma extracted the best output from his technicians and lead actors. He has sound technical knowledge which is why the film is visually appealing. However, there is a lot of confusion in the screenplay. Director wants to raise an issue that is being overlooked, but couldn’t make an engaging film because of too many unnecessary elements included. Also the pacing is troublesome.

Dialogues are fine. Music by Justin Prabhakaran is the highlight. Every song has been shot so well. Background score also is impressive. Cinematography is beautiful. It is like visual poetry on the screen. Editing could have been better. Production values are excellent.

Thumbs Up:

Vijay Deverakonda

Chemistry between lead pair

Thumbs Down:

Disjointed storytelling

Slow pace

Lack of emotional connect

Analysis:

Dear Comrade is based on a burning issue – sexual harassment of women at the workplace. However, this issue comes to the forefront only in the last half an hour or so. Until then it deals with a love story where two conflicting personalities fall in love. Bobby is an angry young man who cannot tolerate injustice. Lilly doesn’t want to get into any mess and live her life peacefully. No wonder they get separated and Bobby struggles hard to come out of the depression. He gets over the breakup, but meets Lilly again who is now in a bad state. He gets to know the reason for it and the rebel in him resurfaces, but Lilly refuses to fight.

The message that Dear Comrade delivers is good and certainly the need of the hour. However, the film doesn’t focus on it until the last act. We get to see a love story that only sparkles here and there. There is nothing new in the romance or the conflict, which makes it passe. The Comrade angle in Bobby seems forced and out of place. The fights don’t add any value to the script and in fact makes it a bit more lengthy. It looks as if the director is playing around Vijay Deverakonda’s rebel image. Only the chemistry between the lead pair and beautiful songs make the first half watchable.

Second half of the film is entirely different from the first half. We can see that the story is heading towards something unexpected, but the passage is dull and absolutely disengaging. The director doesn’t get into the details of the harassment and simply leaves it to audience’s perception, which isn’t a good idea. There should have been better scenes to show the struggle and pain. Even the climax sequence isn’t striking enough. It surely raises right questions, but fails to make an emotional connect that stays with the audience after they leave the theaters. Dear Comrade should have taken a better approach than the one that is shown in the film.

All in all, the film ends up as a half-baked attempt that isn’t either a commercially viable or an emotionally satisfying one. It relies totally upon Vijay Deverakonda’s craze in terms of box office returns.

Verdict: Oh Dear!

Should Lyric Writer Ananta Sriram Remove Sriram From His Name?

Share

Popular Telugu lyric writer Ananta Sriram has taken on the so-called ‘intellectuals’ who opposed the slogan Jai Sri Ram and wrote a letter to Prime Minister Modi against mob attacks. They said that anyone opposing the government are being branded as anti-national and urban naxal.

Ananta Sriram took exception to the attempts of the 49 ‘intellectuals’ to blame mob attacks on just one community. On his official Facebook account, he posted a sarcasm and wit-laced response to their letter. He asked if the intellectuals want the names Jai and Sri Ram be banned. ”If that happens, what would happen to countless parents who named their parents after lord Ram? What will happen to me for I am named Ananta Sriram and to Sitaram Yechuri, who too is named after Lord Ram?” Ananta Sriram asked.

”How will we change our names in the birth certificates and the SSC exam certificates? Where should we go? We will be made to run from pillar to post just because of these intellectuals,” he said sarcastically. Sri Ram is known to be a Modi supporters and has time and again defended MOdi’s decisions and has taken on those criticising Modi on social media.

First Star Hero To Appreciate Ismart Shankar Is Here

Share

We’ve already reminded Tollywood about how Ismart Shankar is not getting appreciations from star heroes despite the fact that the film collected 27+ crores share in less than a week of its release. And it looks like Telugu fraternity has taken the word seriously.

Other day mega hero Ram Charan has poured appreciations on this Puri Jagan’s movie that featured Ram Pothineni in the lead. “Energetic performances by Ram and all the other actors of iSmart Shankar. . CONGRATULATIONS to Puri Garu – the man who put it all together..” the actor posted, on his Facebook page, giving more kick to the Ismart team.

Following Charan, there are other celebs like Sumanth who have posted about the movie big time on social media. Now that these stars started endorsing Ismart Shankar, the film might run for a couple of weeks more with terrific collections. Because mass audiences are lacking proper entertainment for a long time.

On the other hand, feminists are quick to ask, how come these star heroes are supporting such misogynist content no matter what the story is like.

#BiggBoss3 S03 E05: Sreemukhi Raises Her Voice

Share

All these days she is bubbly and sweet, but how long she continues in that tone when she has to face some harsh comments? That’s what anchor Sreemukhi felt as she got questioned by Hema for coming late when the time is running out to pick up luxury budget allotted to housemates.

Though there is a goof-up in starting the TV as most of the housemates including Mahesh Vitta and Ali Reza failed to turn up the TV properly as the pressed remote without knowing what to actually press. But Hema as pointed out that Sreemukhi has come late to the event as they ended up using only 1500 points out of the 3000 points given to them after Jafffer-Hema won huge luxury budget in the ‘choices’ task.

Upset with this, Sreemukhi asserted that she hasn’t made any mistake as switching off the TV is not her fault, and stormed out of the living room, saying that she won’t take the food. While others came to pamper her, she hasn’t got convinced until she gave a couple of pointers to Hema, where she clarified she is on time, but switching off TV is not her mistake.

Though there is not much depth in the incident, Sreemukhi got some buzz out of it.

Sye Raa Crosses 3 Hr Mark- Megastar To Start Editing?

Share

Finally director Surender Reddy has carved out all the missing links and the shooting of Megastar Chiranjeevi’s epic film Sye Raa is said to have got wrapped. While a rejuvenated Chiranjeevi is back from his Kerala trip, where he’s said to have taken nature cure like earlier, director Surender Reddy is said to have wrapped the editing part too.

According to the grapevine, the total runtime of Sye Raa as per Surender Reddy’s choice of editing is nearly 3 hours 30 minutes. Though Megastar Chiru is not aghast to 3 hours runtime as he asked Sukumar to go ahead with such a length during Rangasthalam times, the extra 30 minutes are said to be worrying him now. Because making the audiences sit for more than 3 hours will be a daunting task.

Reports are coming that Megastar will be sitting at the editing table in a couple of days to make sure that choppings happen right away. such that they may stop spending money and time on unnecessary visual effects sequences too. Though the editor and director did a commendable job already, Megastar is known for rightly ascertaining the fate of films at the editing table and sometimes his bits and pieces of editing work has created miracles.

Sye Raa narrates the story of first ever freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy who fought against the British taking over the lands of Telugu people in Chittoor, Kadapa and Kurnool areas.

Take Care Bunny, Someone Is Leaking Wrong News

Share

First, there is news about Bunny’s caravan getting fined by police for having tinted glass. Before that, there is an allegation that one of the Stylish Hero’s manager got fired by Suresh Babu for using his son Rana’s operation as a news item to cover up the mega hero’s tiff with a co-director. Also, there are rumours published on a few websites that Bunny-Trivikram film is not happening at jet speed.

These gossip items have mushroomed just in a week span, which doesn’t happen usually in the case of any star hero. That brings us to the doubt, who is actually leaking this news (or wrong news) to the media folks? Without some people from the film unit revealing this stuff to the websites folks, how come they will surface on the internet? These are the questions that are wondering fans right now as they read a gossip a day about Allu Arjun.

People close to the actor say that someone around the film unit is acting like a double agent, leaking his private news to media folks. Whether there is truth in this or not, Bunny has to take care off all the things such that unwanted news or plain news with extra layered masala will not hit the internet. Because, the people who are leaking the titbits have nothing to lose, but it is Bunny’s image that is at stake.

Spotlight: Jagan should listen to Chandrababu!

Share

There is no love lost between Chandrababu Naidu and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. When Chandrababu was in power, he hounded Jagan and now the latter is trying to repay the debt with interest. While some decisions of Jagan against Chandrababu can be ascribed to Newton’s third law of motion, there is one important issue now which goes way beyond the scope of their personal vendetta.

It is regarding the sharing of Godavari waters with Telangana and concerns each and every citizen of Andhra Pradesh.Apparently, YS Jagan has been approached by KCR with a formula for the sharing of Godavari waters.Jagan praised this decision of KCR saying the Telangana CM has taken the initiative and come forward with a broad-minded proposal.

Jagan stressed on the need to maintain cordial relations with the neighbouring States. Irrigation Minister Anil Yadav said the draft agreement was being prepared.

While it is important to underscore here that Jagan said he would sign the agreement only if it is fair to Andhra Pradesh, there is also the apprehension that Jagan out of goodwill for KCR might be compelled to accept a less than satisfactory agreement.

The YSRCP has the mandate in the House and can get the Bill passed without any hassle but Chandrababu Naidu’s words are equally relevant.

“Today, Jagan may have good relations with KCR but the long term implications should also be kept in mind. We have seen how Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are still fighting for Cauvery waters. Even the Supreme Court is unable to resolve the issue. Therefore, Jagan should not take a hasty decision,” said Chandrababu Naidu.

Jagan might well refuse the counsel of Naidu; after all, Naidu never consulted him on Amaravati, Pattiseema etc. But Jagan should also realise that it was precisely this unilateral approach of Chandrababu that cost him the trust of the people.

The sharing of Godavari waters is a matter far bigger than the individual egos of either Jagan or Chandrababu.

A wrong decision can have disastrous consequences for the future generations of Andhra Pradesh.

Therefore, Jagan would be well-advised to convene an all-Party meeting irrespective of numerical representation in the Assembly and take the suggestions of all seniors and experts into consideration before signing any agreement.

This way, the interests of the State will be protected.

Balayya missing in assembly high drama!

Share

Andhra Pradesh state assembly has been witnessing a high drama for the last two days, following the suspension of three Telugu Desam Party MLAs by deputy speaker Kona Raghupathi for creating ruckus in the House.

The TDP legislators staged a protest in front of the main entrance of the assembly on Wednesday seeking revocation of the suspension of three party MLAs — Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary, K. Atchannaidu and Nimmala Ramanaidu.

On Thursday, they took out a “padayatra” to the assembly on Thursday, led by party president and leader of opposition N Chandrababu Naidu.

The TDP leaders have been raising protests by holding placards with captions such as “suspension is unfair” and “will you suspend for questioning?” and shouting slogans seeking “we want justice.”

However, one person who has been conspicuous by missing in the entire drama was Naidu’s brother-in-law and Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna.

Except in the initial days of the commencement of budget session, Balakrishna has not been coming to the assembly regularly, let alone participating in the debates on various issues.

Surprisingly, Balakrishna is said to be aspiring to become the working president of the party and hoping to play a bigger role in the party activities.

There were also reports that he was interested in taking the mantle of the party by 2024, by which time Naidu would turn 74 years.

One wonders how Balakrishna could dream of playing a big role in the party, let alone leading it, when he cannot even participate in the assembly proceedings.

“He has to show his leadership qualities by gaining command over the subjects, questioning the government on important issues of public concern and lead the other MLAs of the party in protests and rallies. But Balayya wants power without shedding a drop of sweat,” a party leader observed.

May be Balakrishna is a little busy with his film career, but it is time he takes active interest in party activities.

Rakul Charged A Bomb For Manmadhudu 2!

Share

Rakul Preet Singh had no qualms to romance sixty year old Nagarjuna in Manmadhudu 2.She romanced his son Naga Chaitanya in Rarandoi not long ago, but accepted the role to play Nag’s love interest in Manmadhudu 2. However, she made sure that she gets a fair deal for taking the huge risk.

Rakul has been reportedly paid Rs. 1.55 crore as remuneration for Manmadhudu 2. This is huge amount considering her shrinking popularity lately.Rakul is not hot in the trade anymore and in fact she didn’t get a single Telugu project after the debacle of Spyder. She is hoping that Manmadhudu 2 will help her get back in the game.

Meanwhile, Manmadhudu 2 trailer has impressed one and all and has been trending on the YouTube since its launch. The trailer has set decent expectations on the film directed by Rahul Ravindran. It promises to be a fun family ride with Nagarjuna playing a very interesting character.

Today: This Can Take Vijay Into The Next League

Share

Vijay Deverakonda has three blockbusters Pelli Chupulu, Arjun Reddy and Geetha Govindam to his credit, which earned him immense following among the college going youth.

However, he couldn’t capitalize on Geetha Govindam’s success due to a couple of ill-timed releases like NOTA and Taxiwala.

Dear Comrade is the film that should have come after Geetha Govindam. Vijay is aware that this film’s performance will decide his range as a star.

If Vijay pulls off another blockbuster then he will not be considered as tier 2 hero anymore and will directly go into the next league of stars.

If Dear Comrade’s range is restricted to medium range then he will have to wait for some more films to reach there.

Dear Comrade is releasing today amid high expectations. It is set for a grand opening in overseas markets and A centers across Telugu states.

The film deals with a sensitive concept like women getting harassed at workplace. It has cricket and college backdrops with Rashmika playing a highly emotional role.

Can Dear Comrade strike a chord with the target audience?

Bigg Boss 3: Constant Fights Between Hot-headed Contestants

Share

Bigg Boss Season 3 is turning into a mess with far too many hot-headed contestants in the house. There are way too many altercations already and there is absolutely no harmony as of now.It is not even a week since the show has started and the housemates had many verbal spats already. There were three fights in the Thursday episode itself.

Usually, Bigg Boss finds it tough to cut a promo for the next episode due to lack of content, but this group is giving them tonnes of it.However, it will be tough to run this show if the housemates fail to gel well as they need to stay under the same roof for hundred days. Also the host Nagarjuna will find it hard to talk sense into this group.

Only Baba Bhasker, Shiva Jyothi, Jaffer and Ashu Reddy are staying away from altercations as of now.Baba Bhaskar is giving some relief with his antics and one-liners, but the editors are giving more screen space for fights.

The show will be interesting if there is a balance between fun and fights. But with characters like Hema, Rahul Sipligunj, Shrimukhi, Mahesh Vitta and a couple of others there is little scope for fun and more chance for fights.
