ABCD Movie Review

Share

Thanks to super hit song Mella Mella Mellaga that has created enough buzz around ABCD, a remake of Malayalam film of the same name. Allu Sirish slips into the role of a rich NRI guy who is thrown into dire situation by his father. Sanjeev Reddy is the director for this comedy with political backdrop.

What is it about?

Avi(Sirish) and Basha(Bharath) are sent to India as they don’t know the value of money. They were given just Rs. 5000 per month to survive in India. How can a rich NRI who spends $20K per month lead a life as a commoner in India?

Performances:

Allu Sirish suits the role of a rich guy and he does well as per character’s requirements. Bharath is good as his sidekick. Rukshar looks pretty and her performance is okay. Nagababu is adequate as the strict and unapologetic father. Raja as the villain fails to shine. Kota and Subhalekha Sudhakar played supporting roles. Vennela Kishore’s cameo as a frustrated news anchor is fun.

Technicalities:

Sanjeev Reddy does well until he stays loyal to the original script. There are some good moments in the first half. However, his direction goes haywire in the second half where politics take the front seat. He has failed to give an emotional core to the film that falls flat during the key climatic portions.

Except Mella Mellaga other songs are passed. Background score is out of sync in many scenes. Cinematography is alright. Editing could have been better in the second hour. Production values are not up to the mark. However, the producers couldn’t do much keeping Sirish’s market in their minds.

Thumbs Up:

Few comedy bits in the first half

Mella Mella Mellaga song

Thumbs Down:

Second half is a letdown

Climax is predictable

Weak villain

Analysis:

ABCD has a nice premise that sets it apart from the regular entertainers. Two spoiled brats coming to India and forced to live the slum life has enough material to become an enjoyable comedy. Despite a promising premise, ABCD only offers handful of laughs and shines only in parts. The political thread runs parallel to the main plot and that is not developed in an interesting manner. The choice of actor for playing the main villain also comes in as one of the major drawbacks for ABCD.

Even the romantic thread between Sirish and Rukshar is underdeveloped. There is not enough meat in the love story to make the proceedings interesting. It is hard to root for the main characters that are not developed properly. There is not a moment where we as audience wants the hero and his friend to win and go back to America. While the first half is passable in spite of an uninteresting screenplay, the second half falls flat on its face due to poor sequences involving ‘Youth Icon’ contest. The villain is hardly threatening that takes away the tension from the drama.

Climax is very predictable as the movie ends on an expected note. However, scenes leading to the climax are not convincing enough. Everything happens abruptly as if the makers were in a hurry to wrap it up. ABCD which starts off as an interesting comedy, unfortunately, ends up as an undercooked drama that gives life message to the youngsters. It has little scope to perform at the ticket windows too.

Verdict:
Confused and Disappointing!

Stunning Skin Show Of Indian Beauties At Cannes

Share

Not many know what happens at the Cannes Film Festival other than the fact that some international content will be screened, appreciated and awarded with merit certificates. Many hotties from various countries rush there and showcase the best of their bodies.

While feminists and moral police might raise up on single leg and condemn the glamour talk, but other plunging necklines and revealing costumes, there is nothing the Indian battalion did once again at the French town of Cannes. The likes of Priyanka Chopra and Hina Khan made their debut appearance at the festival, while Deepika Padukone and Kangana Ranaut joined them as usual.

Their plunging necklines are actually revealing oodles of skin, thereby raising the temperatures back home. Kangana and Priyanka stunned everyone with their neck-deep outfits, that at some point looked more vulgar than ravishing. And then, Deepika and Hina involved in gracious skin show, albeit with the low neck dresses only.

Well, it looks like going skin-show way is the only thing starlets do at Cannes in the name of bringing a name to the country.

Release Date Of Nani’s ”Gang Leader” Announced

Share

Hero Nani is so hardworking that he makes sure at least two films of him release in a calendar year. There are times where he has come up with a third film too. And now that 2019 has seen his “Jersey” already, he’s now coming up with his second film of the year.

Apparently, Nani got his next film already half shot and he’s likely to start shooting of another project too. While his “Gangleader” with Vikram Kumar is half done, his “V” with Indranganti has just started. And today, Mythri Movie Makers has announced that Nani’s Gangleader will be hitting cinemas on August 30th.

While this production house struggled to get a release date for Vijay Devarakonda’s Dear Comrade which has changed a couple of dates already, it looks like they have no issue to fix Nani’s film release date almost three months ahead of time.

After even paying a fine to Ashwini Dutt for grabbing Vikram to Mythri, it looks like both Nani and Mythri are quite confident of the film. Featuring newcomer Priyanka Arul Mohan as one of the leads, the film is a crime comedy with Nani heading a gang of girls. Rx100 Karthikeya will be seen as a villain.

Will Solo Attack Save This Struggling Hero?

Share

Today it happens to be the release of mega hero Allu Sirish latest movie ABCD. He is one hero from Mega bunch who is still struggling to get his foot right in Film Industry and as hero Nani said at the pre-release event, Sirish needs stardom.

With the film being labelled as a ‘simple entertainer’ by many critics who watched it, one has to hope that the summer holidays will help Allu Sirish big time now. Also, he came solo this Friday with no other release in competition and other than Maharshi there are no big films around him. That too, Sirish got a record release this time.

Reportedly, Suresh Babu, who has taken the release of this film into hands is making sure that ABCD is getting more than 600 screens across the globe. In Telugu states alone, the film is releasing in 250+ screens, while Bengaluru, Chennai, Kerala and other northern states are also seeing ABCD release big time.

As this is a biggest release up his sleeve, Sirish should make most of it. We have to see what happens at the box office anyway.

Trailer Talk: A Highly Controversial Netflix Series

Share

After venturing into India, popular streaming service Netflix started producing content that will play to galleries in the sub-continent. And their upcoming Indian web series is ‘Leila’, which happens to be quite a controversial one.

‘Leila’ This is a dystopian web series we have to see where a group of ‘racist’ named Aryavrata try to clean up the society from mixed blood as a Hindu heroine marries someone from another Dharma and bores his child. Featuring Huma Qureshi in the lead and directed by Deepa Mehta, the web series’ trailer is quite stunning and intriguing.

We have seen some of the web series like “The Hand Maid’s Tale” where the backdrop is a hypothetical Christian government (theonomy) and it looks like “Leila” is an Indian version of it with a rigid conservative Hindu government taking the law into hands. As the leading lady goes in search of her daughter who is forcibly taken away from her for being a mixed blood, we go jaw-dropping for the kind of setup she is in.

This thrilling web series is based on Prayaag Akbar’s book ‘Leila’ and it also features south star Siddharth in a crucial role.

Chandrababu Naidu to stage protest over re-poll

Share

Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is likely to stage a protest in Delhi later on Friday over Election Commission’s (EC) decision to hold re-poll in five polling booths in one of the Lok Sabha constituencies in the state.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President will meet Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora to submit a memorandum to lodge his protest over the poll body’s decision to conduct re-polling in Chittoor Lok Sabha constituency.

Naidu alleged that the EC once again showed its bias by ignoring the TDP demand for re-poll while accepting a similar demand by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) more than a month after the polling.

TDP sources said after submitting the memorandum, Naidu may stage a sit-in in the national capital to protest the EC’s decision.

The poll body on Wednesday decided to conduct re-polling in five polling booths in five polling stations in Chandragiri Assembly segment, which is a part of Chittoor Lok Sabha constituency

Re-polling in these five booths for both Chandragiri Assembly seat and Chittoor (Scheduled Caste) Lok Sabha seat will be held between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on May 19.

This followed complaint by outgoing MLA from Chandragiri and YSR Congress Party candidate Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy that voters of one particular community were not allowed to cast their votes on April 11.

Earlier on May 6, re-polling was held in five polling booths spread over three districts.

Polling to 175-member Assembly and all 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state were held in a single phase on April 11.

Meanwhile, tension is building up in Chandragiri where re-polling is scheduled on Sunday. TDP has alleged that YSRCP candidate was bringing outsiders to influence the polling.

Chalasani denies links with Sivaji!

Share

After prolonged silence, founder-president of Andhra Intellectuals Forum and chairman of Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samithi (Forum for achieving special category status) Chalasani Srinivas is back in the news.

Apparently, Chalasani was worried that he could land in troubles following his close relations with Telugu actor Sivaji who is presently in deep soup over the controversy in popular television channel TV9.

On Friday, Chalasani sought to give clean chit to himself saying he had no connections whatsoever with Sivaji.

He made it clear that Sivaji was never a member of the Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samithi, but had only extended support to the movement for special category status.

“He attended a couple of meetings and we had taken only suggestions from him. Now, Sivaji does not have any connections with Pratyeka Hoda Sadhana Samithi,” he said.

Chalasani said any party that would come to power in the state after May 23 should extend “conditional” support to that coalition in the Centre on the special category status issue.

“It should support to only that coalition that granted special status to AP. It should also bring continuous pressure on the center,” he added.

He said that the Samithi would continue its fight till the special status to the state was achieved.

He requested that the new government should take all-parties into consideration in fighting for special status.

All Escape Routes Shut For Ravi Prakash?

Share

It looks like all the doors for former chief executive officer of the popular Telugu television channel TV9 to escape from being arrested in the forgery and criminal conspiracy case have been closed.

The Cyber Crime police have indicated that they might arrest Ravi Prakash anytime from now, as he had failed to respond to the notices served on him under 41-A of Criminal Procedure Code.

The police claimed to have gained clinching evidence with regard to Ravi Prakash’s attempts to stall the new management from taking over the channel by creating a back-dated agreement between him and actor Shivaji for fake transfer of 40,000 shares and thereby lodging a complaint to the National Company Law Tribunal against the management change.

What caused more trouble to Ravi Prakash is the latest complaint lodged by the Alanda Media with the police that he had disposed of the TV9 title and other trademarks of the channel to Mojo TV owned by him for a paltry Rs 99,000. The police booked a case against him.

The Cyber Crime police said that they were ready to arrest Ravi Prakash as they were now equipped with arrest warrant.

Now, there is only one option before Ravi Prakash – to move a higher court to obtain anticipatory bail to avoid arrest or appear before the police for being questioned.

It is advisable not to arrest me, says Kamal

Share

Chennai: Even as his anticipatory bail petition is pending before the Madras High Court for his ‘Hindu terrorist’ speech, actor-politician Kamal Haasan on Friday said it is advisable not to arrest him.

Speaking to reporters here, the founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) party said: “I am not afraid of getting arrested. At the same time, there will be tension if I am arrested. Hence it is better if I am not arrested.”

Haasan said he was not making a request not to arrest him but it was an advice not to take him into custody.

Queried about DMK and others parties not coming to his support, Haasan said they may be having their own agenda.

On Sunday, at the Aravakuruchi Assembly constituency, Haasan, while campaigning for his party candidate, said about the killer of Mahatma Gandhi: “The first extremist of independent India was a Hindu — Nathuram Godse. It all started from there.”

The statement drew angry responses from the BJP.

According to Haasan, he had made a similar statement in an election campaign earlier but only now the matter was blown up.

Asked about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that no Hindu could be a terrorist, Haasan said history and historians will given an answer to that. “It is said that Modi is knowledgeable. He knows everything. I need not respond to his statement.”

India will be playing their first match on June 5 against South Africa and Cyberhub has something special planned.

Elections 2019: Banking on ‘Pasupu-Kumkuma’

Share

The entire TDP is praying that the ‘Pasupu –Kumkuma’ scheme launched by Chandrababu Naidu that was originally announced on Jan 25, 2019 will tilt the balance in its favour at the polling booth hen counting takes place on the 23rd of this month.

Rs 10,000 will be paid to all eligible women of Self Help Groups and DWACRA and smart phones will also be provided to them. Approximately, 93 lakh women will benefit from this scheme and will cost the State around Rs 9400 crore.

Although the State government does not have the funds, it promised to make the payments by borrowing from Central Agencies.

Chandrababu Naidu cleverly ensured that the payments via cheque were made to the beneficiaries, right on the eve of elections in Andhra Pradesh.

The Party believes that the high percentage of women turning out in large numbers to exercise their franchise till late into the night is an indication that the women voted for them because of this scheme.

With all due respect to the TDP though, it is equally possible that people waited in queues for long periods of time to cast their vote because of the high level of anti-incumbency.

This election has been especially tough for Chandrababu Naidu as he has completely lost credibility.

Whether it be the ‘real estate’ venture called Amaravati, the failed ‘loan waiver’ scheme or his horrifying doublespeak over the SCS issue, he has lost the trust of the people.

Given such a high-level of anti-incumbency, will this one scheme by Chandrababu be enough to catapult him back to power? The TDP thinks so!

Besides, there is no guarantee given his recent track record that Chandrababu will make the payments punctually in future.

The people would also have taken this aspect into consideration which would mean that the women gleefully accepted the payments and then voted for the YSRCP.

In 2014, the TDP needed 6 runs off the last ball and contrary to all expectations; Chandrababu got a top-edge that sailed over fine leg into the stands.

Now, the situation is the same and TDP fans are desperately hoping that Chandrababu will once again clear the field. But miracles don’t occur frequently or else they wouldn’t be called miracles.

The last ball this time can easily be a replica of the IPL final between Chennai and Mumbai with Naidu in yellow representing the defending champs.

But there’s a silver lining for Chandrababu after all. He frequently keeps complaining that he is working so hard for the people that he cannot find even the time to play with his grandson.

Should the TDP lose on May 2, Chandrababu will have all the time in the world to fulfill this desire of his and what’s more, he can also catch up on the episodes of the serial ‘Pasupu Kumkuma’ on Youtube that was aired on Zee Telugu some years ago.

No Truth In Sonia Writing Letter To KCR & Jagan

Share

The news about UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s letter to Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao and YSRCP Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy, inviting them to a meeting of non-BJP allies on 23rd May, has been under circulation from last few hours. But, the Congress party on Thursday offered a clarification on the news.

Ahmed Patel, Senior Congress leader and chief Political advisor to Sonia Gandhi, made it clear that there is no truth in Sonia Gandhi sending a letter to KCR and Jagan Mohan Reddy. Patel said: “Sonia ji has not written any such letter.”

The party may not have sent out invitation to KCR and Jagan but they are making efforts to have a meeting with key leaders like MK Stalin, Nara Chandrababu Naidu, Sharad Pawar, HD Kumaraswamy. Only after this meeting, as per Ahmed Patel’s statement, Congress may take a decision on whether to send out an invitation to Jagan and KCR.

However, the numbers on result day will help them conclude on required partners to weave a grand coalition government.
