TDP crisis: Chandrababu in touch with party leaders

Share

Amaravati: Currently holidaying abroad, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) President N. Chandrababu Naidu is in touch with senior party leaders in the wake of four Rajya Sabha members defecting to the BJP on Thursday.

Naidu, who is in Europe along with his family members, held a teleconference with party leaders available at his residence in Amaravati.

The TDP chief told them that this situation is not new to the party as it had witnessed many such crises in its 36-year-old history. He advised the party leaders and cadres not to get worried by the defections.

Naidu told the party leaders that the TDP fought with the BJP to safeguard the state’s interests. He slammed the BJP for luring TDP MPs.

Y.S. Chowdary, C.M. Ramesh, T.G. Venkatesh and G. Mohan Rao, all Rajya Sabha members of the TDP, on Thursday joined the BJP. They requested Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu to merge the TDP parliamentary party in Rajya Sabha with the BJP.

Meanwhile, senior TDP leaders alleged that the MPs joined the BJP to save themselves in various cases booked against them by central agencies.

Former minister N. Chinnarajappa said since the MPs were facing various charges, they joined the BJP to protect themselves. He termed the defections as “unfortunate” and said the MPs switched loyalties after enjoying various positions of power.

“Whatever the BJP may do, it is not going to help the party in gaining ground in the state,” he said.

More than half a dozen movies are releasing today and none of them is a notable film let alone a biggie.

Small film producers are trying their luck at box office in this month as there are some notable films lined up for July.

Agent Sai Srinivas Atreya is one of the many releases today. It is a mystery thriller made in Sherlock style. The film has caught a few eyeballs with its promos.

Mallesham starring Priyadarshi in the lead role is another movie that made some buzz on social media platforms.

Long delayed movie of Vishnu Manchu is also seeing the light today. Don’t know how many voters will turn out to see Voter in its weekend 1.

First Rank Raju and a movie called Special are also releasing today.

It is interesting to see if at least one or couple of these could make a mark at the box office.

It has been a dull June so far and the trade is hoping to see some surprise hits this weekend.

Kabir Singh, the much awaited Hindi remake of Arjun Reddy and Toy Story 4 are releasing today. These films are likely to get good openings across Hyderabad multiplexes.

Chiranjeevi Overseeing Editing of Sye Raa

“Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy” has completed its shoot and is now into post-production. Interestingly, it is megastar Chiranjeevi who is overseeing the editing process.

While director Surender Reddy is busy coordinating with VFX team and other work, Chiranjeevi himself is sitting with editors for the first cut.

Both Chiranjeeevi and director Surender Reddy have different ideas for “Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy”. They have had heated discussions while the filming took place.

But now everything has been sorted out between them and the senior actor is focusing more on emotional elements to come out well.

“Sye Raa” that is being made with Rs 300 Cr in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages is slated for October 2nd release. Trailer will be out in the month of August.

Once the rough cut of editing is done, Chiranjeevi will move on to director Koratala’s entertainer that will begin its regular shoot in August.

Well-Planned Game by Naidu and Co

Four Telugu Desam party Rajyasabha MPs – YS Chowdary, CM Ramesh, TG Venkatesh and Garikapati Mohan Rao today joined BJP, a move surprised all political pundits.

They passed a resolution to merge Legislature Party of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) into BJP and Vice-President of India Venkaiah Naidu agreed to this. This is similar to what TDP leaders did in Telangana.

While BJP is celebrating that Telugu Desam party is sinking and all its leaders are moving to their party but political observers feel that this is a strategy chalked out by Nara Chandrababu Naidu himself.

Sujana Chowdhary and CM Ramesh are facing serious charges of economical offenses. If they join BJP, the authorities will not move swift on these cases.

Poll: Is TDP finished in Andhra Pradesh?

There are also reports that the new Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy will file cases on CM Ramesh and other top Telugu Desam leaders in fraud and corruption cases. Since they have joined BJP, Jagan will not dare put cases on them.

This was the reason many of the TDP leaders who indulged in frauds are moving towards BJP which is in power at the center.

Some TDP MLAs too may follow MPs over to BJP

The decision of four TDP Rajya Sabha MPs to join BJP has made the road ahead an arduous one for the regional party. Former union minister YS Chowdary, CM Ramesh, TG Venkatesh and Garikapati Mohan Rao announced a merger with BJP in Rajya Sabha.

Speculation is rife that many MLAs and former MLAs may follow suit. TDP has 23 MLAs and it might be very difficult for Naidu to keep his flock together.

If two-thirds of the MLAs of the TD Legislature Party ask the Speaker to merge them with another party or consider them as a separate group, they will escape disqualification under the Anti-Defection Law.

Poll: Is TDP finished in Andhra Pradesh?

As per Assembly norms, a party should have 10 per cent of the House strength to enjoy Opposition status. In the 175-member AP Assembly, a party should have at least 18 MLAs to be an Opposition party. If six MLAs leave the TD, it will lose its Opposition status. The BJP is trying to poach at least 16, or two-thirds of the 23 TD MLAs.

According to sources in the BJP, the possible defectors will take a cue from the four MPs who defected to the BJP.

In order to escape disqualification, four of the six TD MPs, or two-thirds of the party in the Upper House, asked the deputy chairman of the Rajya Sabha to merge them into the BJP under the 4th paragraph of the Tenth Schedule of the Constitution.

“At this point I can’t say how many TD MLAs are joining us. But I am sure a majority of the TD MLAs are in touch with our leadership,” said BJP state vice-president S. Vishnuvardhan Reddy.

Kammula Shelves Half-finished Film For Chaitanya!

Share

Sekhar Kammula launched a film with newcomers after Fidaa. He has filmed for many days and completed half of it. However, after looking at the rushes, the director wasn’t happy with the output.

Even producer Sunil Narang was not satisfied with how it turned out. They decided to scrap it despite spending Rs. 5 crore on it.

Meanwhile, Sekhar Kammula met Naga Chaitanya, who has been long waiting to work under him. Chay immediately agreed to play the lead in Kammula’s film.

Sunil Narang’s plan was to do a low budget film with Sekhar Kammula, but it has now turned out to be a big film with Chay and Sai Pallavi stepping in as the leads.

Even the wasted Rs. 5 Crore on the shelved film will also be considered as the budget of this film.

So there would be additional responsibility on Sekhar Kammula to deliver a successful film.

Suriya Lost Heavily on NGK

Share

“NGK” was produced by Suriya’s close family members and friends. Dream Warrior Pictures banner is in a way Suriya’s home production house. He was confident that he would recover the basic investment on “NGK”.

The reviews were bad but the film took good openings in Tamilnadu. However, it ended up as a huge loss venture.

Suriya didn’t take remuneration for this film. He has share in profits. Since there are no profits, he lost heavily.

The Telugu producer K K Radhamohan bought the film for Rs 9 Cr and its theatrical revenue was mere Rs 4.5 Cr. Radhamohan lost nearly 50 percent.

In all languages put together, “NGK” had collected mere Rs 26 Cr worldwide. This is too low for a star like Suriya.

He generally charges Rs 25 Cr as remuneration. Now he can’t charge the same after this movie. Suriya too is losing more than Rs 20 Cr on this movie altogether.

After this film, his entire market has come crashing down. It will be tough for him to win the confidence of distributors.

TDP to be empty before Naidu returns!

Share

Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh will become empty by the time its president and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu returns from his foreign tour.

This was the prediction made by Bharatiya Janata Party vice-president of its AP unit S Vishnu Vardhan Reddy, while reacting to the defection of four Rajya Sabha members from TDP to BJP.

“You are going to witness a rapid change in the political scenario in AP very shortly. Many former ministers, ex-MLAs and all senior leaders of the TDP would be joining the BJP. There would also be defections from Jana Sena and Congress into the BJP,” he said.

He also referred to the meeting of Kapu leaders from TDP at Kakinada on Thursday.

“You are going to see more such meetings in the coming days and the TDP leaders would make a beeline to the BJP soon, as they all want to get out of the shackles of family rule and bondage” Reddy said.

BJP national spokesman and Rajya Sabha member G V L Narasimha Rao also indicated that several leaders from AP and Telangana would join the BJP shortly, but he refused to divulge their names.

“The only reason for their defection to the BJP is their faith in BJP leadership and Narendra Modi’s governance,” he said.
