Puranik Yogendra, a 41-year-old Indian-origin Japanese, also fondly called as ‘Yogi’, hails from Pune, India. He has been elected to Tokyo’s Edogawa Ward assembly, becoming the first Indian to win an election in Japan.
On April 21, a poll has been conducted as a part of unified local elections held across Japan and Yogi secured a whopping 6,477 votes, the fifth highest of the 226,561 valid ballots cast. ‘I want to be a bridge between Japanese and foreigners,’ said Yogi, who was backed by the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan.
With more than 34,000 Indians residing in Japan, Edogawa Ward has the highest number of Indian residents among Tokyo’s 23 wards with nearly 4,300 Indians. The Edogawa Ward also has a large number of Chinese and Koreans.
Yogi first came to Japan in 1997 who was a university student in India. ‘This is the first-ever victory of a naturalised Japanese of Indian origin in elections in Japan. This is also a recognition of contributions made by Indians towards the Japanese society,’ Shamshad Khan, the author of Changing Dynamics of India-Japan Relations, said.
Yogi’s manifesto promises to take care of bringing in more creche’ for babies, helping non-local kids get into government schools and vocational training of breastfeeding mothers.
RRR: Salman Recommended A Heroine to Rajamouli?
Rajamouli is going to roar big once again with the most-awaited flick RRR in 2019. The movie will have so much to look forward to as Bollywood’s cutie pie Alia Bhatt is making her debut in Tollywood with RRR opposite Ram Charan. Also, Jr.NTR and Charan’s first-time screen sharing is making fans go gaga.
However, after British actress Daisy Edgar Jones walked out of the film, the filmmaker is currently in pursuit of another lead actress opposite Jr NTR. The latest buzz is that B-town’s one of the sexiest actresses Jacqueline Fernandez is in talks to play the female lead. Also, the sources say that Salman Khan has recommended the name of the actress to Rajamouli for the prestigious role.
After hearing Daisy, Shraddha Kapoor, Nithya Menon names, Jacqueline is now on the hot list. This confusion needs to be clarified by the team itself and we need to wait some more time for the confirmation. Another Hindi actor Ajay Devgn will be seen in a pivotal role and the film will be produced by DVV Danayya on DVV Entertainments.
Will Amala Be Able to Scare Us?
Akkineni Amala gave up acting long back and her acting comeback with Life is Beautiful was not impressive. Her role as a cancer patient did not go very well with Akkineni fans and Amala admirers. The actress is back with a TV series now and that too, a Scary one!
Zee Tv is producing a horror web series with Amala Akkineni in lead role to play a top psychic role. The series’ name is ‘High Priestess’ and the show has many more popular actors in it. Bigg Boss fame Nandini Rai, Brahmaji, Sunaina and Varalakshmi Sarathkumar are playing crucial roles in the series. That’s a horrific-terrific comeback of Amala and let us see if the High Priestess can scare us.
CS Subrahmanyam Couldn’t Care Less about Model Code?
Ever since L.V Subrahmanyam has been appointed as the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh, he has been getting the wrong attention unnecessarily and rubbing many politicians the wrong way. Despite not having election duty under his service, he has interfered in polling and sought updates from the Chief electoral officer (CEO) in the state, even on the day of polling. According to protocol, when the Model Code of Conduct is in place in the state, the Chief electoral officer has the powers to take any decisions, while the CS is not connected to any poll-related duties. Further, the power wrests in Chief electoral Officer on any decisions until the code exists.
However, L.V. Subrahmanyam doesn’t seem to think so. He has not only over-stepped the line of duty of a CS but also has convened a meeting with the Chief Electoral Officer to seek updates on polling and the arrangements for counting day. Interestingly, on behalf of the Chief Secretary, the CEO has instructed all district collectors and SPs to take part in today’s meeting. This direction from the Chief Secretary has shocked many in the government. Not only that but also CEO Gopal Dwivedi’s instructions to returning officers too has come as a shocker.
Earlier, when Dwivedi held reviews with respect to polling in the state with returning officers, former Chief Secretary Anil Punetha had attended it as just another officer who was restricted to giving suggestions. In that position, he maintained his dignity and did not over-step the line. However, Subrahmanyam’s attitude and arrogance in breaking the protocol has come as a surprise to many officials in the state.
Additionally, having known to be a close confidant of YSR Congress President Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, there is information that he is trying to act in favour of YSRCP. These excesses by the CS are being observed by the TDP leaders and the believe that once they come to power, they shall take action or sideline the CS completely or replace him with another IAS officer who will work according to the party and government’s interests. Well, Subrahmanyam needs to understand that there is a limit for everything and that he is being watched carefully by the political class in the state.
Highlights: Modi’s Non-Political Talk With Akshay
Yesterday, Bollywood’s action hero Akshay Kumar interviewed Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a non-political and informal manner. It is unprecedented to see Modi being open about many things in his life. He spoke on casually in a humorous way and also entertained viewers with his satirical one-liners.
This heart-to-heart conversation, at Delhi, says a lot about the Prime Minister and his lifestyle. Modi said..
– I got fluent in speaking Hindi during my tea-selling days. I used to sell tea at railway stations and heard people talking in perfect Hindi.
– I drink tea early in the morning at 5 AM. I also never celebrated Diwali.
– I don’t get time to watch films now as a PM. But I used to watch when I was in my village.
– My first international speech was a disaster and Sushma Swaraj helped me with a written speech. However, I’m not comfortable with written speeches. I go with the flow.
– I used to wash my clothes until I became CM of Gujarat. But full sleeved Kurtas used to take a lot of time in washing. Hence, I settled for half-sleeved kurtas now.
– My mother still sends me money but she never asks in return.
– I totally believe in Ayurveda. It does miracles. I drink warm water and fast when I catch old.
– Barack Obama always asks me the question- “why do you sleep less?”, every time we meet. I sleep only 4 hours a day.
– After becoming PM, I gave the money which came as a salary of CM for the education to the daughter of peon and driver of the secretariat.
– As a PM, I have to control my anger and this surprises everyone thinking that I never get angry. I undergo anger management every now and then.
– I love eating mangoes a lot. I used to not have enough money to buy mangoes.
Later, Modi tweeted on his Twitter handle that, “Dear Akshay Kumar, it was good talking to you about everything, except politics and elections. I’m sure people would like watching our conversation”.
Heavy betting not on CM, but on majority!
With less than a month left for the announcement of election results in Andhra Pradesh, it is time for the punters to make big money through large scale betting.
At many places, huge money is said to be changing hands among the people on the victory of candidates in their respective candidates.
Expectedly, the hot favourite is YSR Congress party in several constituencies, particularly in Rayalaseema and so people are betting less money on it and huge money on the rival Telugu Desam Party.
The subject for betting is not who the next chief minister would be since the choice is obvious – either Y S Jaganmohan Reddy or N Chandrababu Naidu. But, more money is being bet on which party would get more seats.
While those who are betting on Jagan are expecting that he would get a majority between 100-125 seats, the pro-TDP camps are not so optimistic: they say the TDP will come to power with 90-100 seats.
Interestingly, there are people who are betting on the margin of victory of both TDP president and the YSRC president.
The stakes are high on Jagan who is expected to get more majority in Pulivendula than Naidu in Kuppam. But the TDP leaders say Naidu had done a lot for Pulivendula in the last three years and it would definitely bring down the victory margin of Jagan.
It is learnt the punters have engaged private call centres to do telephonic surveys to fnd out which section of people had voted for whom. They are making use of IVRS system and also online mechanism to find out the pulse of the people.
Based on the response of the people, the betting equations are changing with every passing day, sources said.
AP student arrested for making derogatory video of KCR
Hyderabad: The Telangana Police on Wednesday arrested a student from Andhra Pradesh for making and sharing online a “derogatory” video about Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao.
The 20-year-old undergraduate student from the neighbouring state had made the objectionable video using the Tik Tok app.
Rachakonda police, one of the three police commissionerates which cover Hyderabad and its outskirts, arrested Thagaram Naveen, a native of Tiruvuru in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.
The accused was charged under Section 153 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act for promoting enmity between different groups. Police also seized two smart phones from the accused.
“It is a case of promoting enmity between the people of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana by making a video and using derogatory language against the Chief Minister and the people of Telangana,” said Rachakonda Police Commissioner Mahesh M. Bhagwat.
The video was made and uploaded on social media on April 14.
On a complaint by V. Ram Narasimha Goud, president of the students’ wing of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), the Cyber Crimes Wing of Rachakonda police had registered the case against Naveen.

Tough Days Ahead for Jersey
Nani’s ‘Jersey’ has crossed coveted $1 million mark but this is not an exceptional achievement for a Nani starrer. The sports drama ought to cross $1.5 million to set a record for Nani.
From long time, Nani’s films are not moving beyond $1.1 million gross. “Jersey” has got great reviews and the word-of-mouth is also strong. This is a right film to go beyond and become number one hit in his career at USA box-office.
But it will face major problem of retaining enough screens in its second weekend as “Avengers: Endgame” will occupy all of them. This is the major worry for Nani’s movie.
Nani’s aim is to join $2 million club as stars like Varun Tej, Nithin, and Vijay Deverakonda have such movies in their kitty.
“Jersey” theoretically is right film to achieve this feat but the timing of the release is bad.
When Will Sharwanand Release his Movie?
Sharwanand has been working on director Sudheer Varma’s gangster drama from long time. The film went to the sets last year and is still progressing with no date for release.
Although first look of the movie was released in March this year on the eve of Sharwanand’s birthday, the makers have not yet announced the title.
There is no buzz or promotion about this film. Many people have forgotten that Sharwanand is doing this gangster movie. Such is the confusion about Sharwanand’s films.
Sharwanand who scored massive flop with “Padi Padi Leche Manasu” needs to pull his socks up to generate buzz about his movies.
The untitled gangster drama stars Kajal Aggarwal and Kalyani Priyadarshan.
Nani Investing Heavily in Film Production
Looks like Nani is quite serious about film production. He didn’t take remuneration for his recent “Jersey” since the budget went beyond stipulated target and it was not an out and out commercial film.
He guessed the film would have limitations at the box-office. So, he took partnership in the film thus involved in its film production indirectly.
Last year, he produced “Awe” which was also decent successful venture. This year, he will be teaming up with Dil Raju and Swapna Dutt to co-produce films.
He will be taking partnership in Dil Raju produced Indraganti’s multi-starrer. He will also be acting in and this film will be launched this month end.
On the other hand, he is also bankrolling a small-budgeted movie in the direction of Anudeep that will star comedians Rahul Ramakrishna and Priyadarshi. Nani will not act in it. He will produce it with Swapna Dutt of “Mahanati”.
Besides acting in two or three movies a year, he also wants to produce small films.
