Petta Movie Review

Share

Rajanikanth has been going through lean phase post Robo, which also has affected the run of his ultra high budget 2.0 too. At this juncture, Karthik Subbaraj who has made some impressive films earlier teamed up to do a masala entertainer with the superstar. Petta is a film that is made by a diehard Rajani fan for the superstar’s fans.

What is it about?

Kaali (Rajanikanth), a mysterious old man comes to a hostel as a warden and immediately teaches a lesson to some bad guys (Bobby Simha and co). Later he supports a young couple (Megha Akash and Sananth), which leads to unforeseen circumstances. But there is more to the story as Kaali has an untold past. He is not Kaali, but Petta Veera! Why has hidden his identity and living in exile?

Performances:

Rajanikanth is at his vintage best as Kaali. His energy, mannerisms and style will bring back the memories of vintage Rajani. Despite playing an aged character, Rajani has been given the look of a youngster and he is super stylish in blazers and sweatshirts. The film is all about Rajani in spite of many well known actors playing key roles and the superstar delivers his best in his inimitable style.

Simran has a brief role as a charming middle aged woman and Trisha has very limited screen space as Rajani’s wife in the flashback scenes. Vijay Sethupathi has been wasted in a very ordinary role. Same is the case with other talented actors like Sasikumar and Bobby Simha. Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddique plays the typical meek villain character and he does well.

Technicalities:

Karthik Subbaraj’s aim is pretty clear. He didn’t want to make a content ridden film with Rajani, but deliver a film that appeals to Thalaiva fans. He showcased Rajanikanth so well in a stylish character that is a feast for his fans. His love for Rajanikanth is evident in every frame. However, besides presenting Rajanikanth in a role that connects to today’s audiences, Karthik Subbaraj neither wrote an engaging script nor kept the entertainment factor intact. Second half is a mess.

Anirudh once again delivers topnotch background score and a couple of songs are high on energy. Cinematography and stunt choreography also are very impressive. Editing could have been better as the film is unnecessarily long. Production values are solid.

Thumbs Up:

Rajanikanth

Entertaining First Half

Thumbs Down:

Second Half is a stretch

Too many gun fights

Talented actors in unimportant roles

Analysis:

Directors are unable to make use of the demigod image of Rajanikanth lately. Rajanikanth’s films are repeatedly failing at the box office as they couldn’t enthrall fans and appeal to film lovers as well. Director Karthik Subbaraj of Pizza and Jigarthanda fame, a self proclaimed diehard fan of Rajanikanth made a film that brings back the vintage Rajani. The plot of Petta is similar to many Rajani’s blockbusters of the past.

Rajanikanth comes to a place by hiding his actual identity and then the real background of his is revealed later. Then it is followed by the revenge saga. Most of the Rajani blockbusters have similar theme and Petta also heads in the same direction. But the major difference is the way Rajani has been presented. Rajanikanth as Kaali, the hostel warden is a treat to watch. There are a lot of fan-moments and punch lines in the first hour besides some energetic songs.

Rajanikanth also plays the ‘lover boy’ for some time with veteran actress Simran playing his romantic interest. Not a single dull moment in the first half, which ends on a high note with the reveal of Petta. Flashback portions are decent, although it isn’t as powerful as Basha. But the real problem arises with Rajani getting into revenge mode. Director tried too hard to make it look like a fresh idea, but he only messed it up in the process.

The film was dragged on and on unnecessarily, but the climax packs a punch. Second half needs a lot of trimming as it could dent the prospects of the film’s box office performance. Petta on the whole is a film for Rajanikanth fans that are missing vintage Thalaiva lately. You cannot miss watching the first half of Petta if you are a diehard fan of Rajanikanth.

Verdict: Get Rajinified!

Actor Prakash Raj meets Kejriwal

Share

Days after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) extended support to Kannada actor Prakash Raj for deciding to contest the Lok Sabha election as an independent candidate, he met AAP leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal here on Thursday.

At the meeting held at Kejriwal’s residence, the two discussed a number of issues.

“Met Kejriwal, thanked him and AAP for the support in my political journey. Discussed and requested to share various ways to address issues which his team has commendably done,” tweeted the actor, who has been critical of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government.

Prakash Raj has been meeting politicians since he announced his decision to contest from Bengaluru.

The AAP extended support to the multi-lingual actor last week.

Andhra BJP To Be Deserted Soon!

Share

The decision of Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Rajahmundry Akula Satyanarayana to resign from the party and join the Jana Sena Party headed by actor Pawan Kalyan has come no surprise.

In fact, the mood in the Andhra Pradesh BJP unit indicates that many senior leaders are planning to quit the party.

The recent video conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is understood to have disappointed these leaders rather than boosting their morale, as he concentrated more on attacking Telugu Desam Party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, rather than giving an assurance on the resolving pending promises like Visakhapatnam Railway Zone, Kadapa Steel Plant and Special Category Status to the state.

Satyanarayana told media that the BJP leadership had failed to fulfil three promises made to Andhra Pradesh.

The Centre had ignored the emotions of people and failed to gain the faith of people though it introduced many welfare schemes, he said.

“I am joining Jana Sena on January 21. I felt that Pawan Kalyan is not like any other politician, but has concern for the people,” he said.

A couple of days ago, another senior BJP leader Ch Ramakotaiah resigned from the BJP and announced his intentions to join the TDP.

There are reports that BJP floor leader in the state assembly P Vishnu Kumar Raju and former minister Kamineni Srinivas are also looking towards the TDP, while another former minister P Manikyala Rao might defect into Jana Sena.

On the other hand, former Union minister and BJP Mahila Morcha leader Daggubati Purandeshwari is also planning to join the YSR Congress party along with her son Hitesh Chenchuram Daggubati shortly.

Another former union minister and senior BJP leader Kavuri Sambasiva Rao has gone into a virtual oblivion.

Only leaders like Somu Veerraju and P Vishnu Vardhan Reddy might end up staying back in the BJP before the coming elections.

Nani Wants Lokesh To Become CM!

Share

Sycophancy in the Telugu Desam Party seems to have reached a new high these days, as the elections to the Andhra Pradesh state assembly and Lok Sabha are fast approaching.

While it has become common for the leaders to shower praises on TDP president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, some leaders have also started pampering his son and IT minister Nara Lokesh, notwithstanding the fact that people have not been taking him seriously at all.

For example, Vijayawada MP Kesineni Nani said Lokesh was capable of becoming the next chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.

He said that Lokesh was striving hard for the development of the state and is leaving no stone unturned to strengthen the party.

Nani lambasted at Modi and condemned the remarks made on Lokesh by Modi.

He said Modi was making derogatory comments on chief minister Chandrababu Naidu who was applauded by the international leaders and also on his son Lokesh.

He, however, said Naidu was not chalking out any plans to make Lokesh as chief minister, he added.

He said Lokesh was handling IT and Panchayat sectors very well and is working hard to bring the companies to invest in the state.

He also maintained that Britain former Prime Minister Tony Blair praised the real time governance which has been implemented in the state and it is shameful on Modi who is unaware of this issue.

He also told that people will teach a lesson to BJP and YSRCP leaders who are indulging in shameful acts.

Selfless Agenda Makes #NTR A Lovable Epic

Share

What is the sole agenda Nandamuri Balakrishna is making this biopic?- That was the question many asked untile #NTR Kathayanakudu released yesterday. But after looking at the selfless agenda of the movie, one has to change their opinion now.

Definitely many felt that Balayya is making this film only to promote himself and Telugudesam Party in the coming days as general elections are inching fast. But in case if he wants to do such a thing, then the film would have been more NTR centric thereby projecting him as a hero in each and every scene. That didn’t happen inside.

Firstly if we discuss the climax of this first part, had they wanted to show that only NTR got the idea of establishing a party, definitely it would have sounded like a selfish agenda. But the film showcased that from Daggubati Venkateswara Rao to Ramoji Rao, Nadendla Bhaskara Rao to Hari Krishna, everyone was instrumental in setting up Telugudesam Party. That explains how Balayya and Krish gave credits to everyone rather putting only NTR in the spotlight.

Many such selfless scenes inside this movie are truly making it a loveable epic for cinema lovers.

Not Commissions, It’s ‘share business’ in KCR’s Rule?

Share

TRS president and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao claims to be running a ‘zero corruption government’.

Strangely, TRS government is facing allegations of huge corruption in its second term. It’s nearly a month since TRS came to power with a thumping majority in recent Assembly polls.

No cabinet has been formed yet. Only CM KCR and home minister Mohd Mahmood Ali took oath so far.

But still, KCR’s government in second term is accused of indulging in corruption.

One of the severe corruption charges KCR government is facing in second term is those who approach TRS leaders for favours are being demanded ‘share’ in their business.

In the first term, TRS government faced allegations of collecting 6 per cent commission from contractors or others who got their works done from TRS leaders.

But in the second term, TRS leaders are not asking for commission but 50 per cent share in their business, whoever comes for whatever works.

Be it contracts, real estate approvals, building approvals, land conversion approvals etc, what TRS leaders are accused of demanding is that they want share in their business not commissions.

It remains to be seen how KCR controls his party leaders and check this menace.

Five Goosebump Scenes In #NTR Kathanayakudu

Share

Needless to say, Krish’s NTR Biopic has garnered immense respect from all quarters for its brilliant portrayal of legendary Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao’s life on the silver screen. And here are five crucial scenes that are stunning movie lovers across the globe.

1) Death of his elder son

The scene where NTR comes to know about the death of his elder son Ramakrishna is high on emotion. Balayya literally slipped into his father’s skin and enacted a lifetime best performance.

2) Dana Veera Soora Karna

NTR’s best side other than being an actor is that he is a terrific director and also editor. When he decided to direct Dana Veera Soora Karna with himself playing three roles as actor and two roles as a technician, surely that whole sequence is stunning.

3) Early life job

Quitting a hard-earned job is really tough for anyone, but NTR just did that as he can’t bear corruption. And that whole sequence turned out to be a terrific one.

4) Lord Krishna scene

For the first time when NTR wore the blue-skin to appear as Lord Krishna, the elevation given by director Krish and composer Keeravani is amazing. And that scene has given some real goosebumps in theatres with Balayya also putting up a mesmeric performance.

5) Announcing TDP scene

The whole of NTR Biopic’s first part converges to a point where NTR announces his political entry. And that is the real high point of the movie as it gave the best of hair rising feeling in the film. We should appreciate writer Sai Madhav Burra’s dialogues for the terrific turnout of that scene.

Jagan Follows KCR, Promises AP People

Share

Borrowing a leaf out of Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao’s playbook on reorganisation of districts, YSR Congress President Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy today assured that if the party wins, they will make every parliamentary constituency a district. Speaking at Srikakulam on completing his Padayatra over 341 days, Jagan said that he will work towards strengthening district collectorates.

According to him, district reorganisation will help in decentralising development and easing governance. “We aim to ensure that every district collector will be in-charge for not more than 7 assembly constituencies. When the number of constituencies are limited, District Collectors can perform their best,” he added.

Jagan added that the total number of districts will be increased to 25 from the current 13 districts in Andhra Pradesh. “This will ensure that government services reach the last mile and to every household in the state,” he added. Looks like Jagan is taking a lesson or two from our neighbouring state CM.

Bhuma Akhila Priya To Join Janasena?

Share

All is not well in Kurnool district’s TDP. Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya is unhappy with the recent developments in TDP in the district. It became evident as she skipped CM Chandrababu Naidu’s Janmabhoomi meeting held in the district recently. Although the meeting coincided with her father Bhuma Nagi Reddy’s birth anniversary, that’s a lame excuse to avoid CM’s meeting in own district that too when she is a cabinet minister. This has irked TDP leaders and cadre in the district. Even party’s seniors are angry over Akhila Priya’s attitude. Nonetheless, Home Minister Chinnarajappa has openly stated that Akhila Priya still needs to learn a lot and said she will soon learn a lot. This public statement by Home Minister against Tourism Minister has kicked up a major political storm.

Going into details, it all seems to have begun when police invoked the PD Act on two persons belonging to TDP party in the Allagadda Assembly constituency and sent them to Kadapa central jail. This hasn’t gone down well with Akhila Priya. In addition to the arrest of two persons, cops have also done cordon and search as part of the procedure and this has further disturbed Akhila Priya who openly expressed her dissent.

Instead of taking up the issue to concerned Home Minister or Chief Minister over the police action, Akhila Priya chose to surrender her gunmen as a protest against government despite being a minister in the very government. This is a serious move by Akhila Priya. Instead of settling the issue through talks, she made it worse. And on top of it, she was absent for CM’s crucial meeting held in her own district.

Now, all eyes are on cabinet meeting which is going to be held soon. It is buzzed that whether Akhila Priya will attend the cabinet meeting or not. Meanwhile, political developments are changing quickly. Inside talk is that Akhila Priya has different plans. She is not very happy with the developments in TDP and hence she is said to be thinking of switching to either YCP or Janasena. Since she has already crossed over from YCP to TDP, chances are that she could now jump into Pawan Kalyan’s Janasena.

Given that Bhuma family has good bond with Chiru family, it is rumoured that Akhila Priya may soon join Janasena. On the other hand, TDP is keen on not fielding Akhila Priya from Allagadda. TDP’s senior leader and former aide to Bhuma family AV Subba Reddy isn’t in good equation with Akhila Priya. TDP is mulling over to field AV Subba Reddy from Allagadda. This is said to be main reason behind Bhuma Akhila Priya’s upset. Apparently, Akhila Priya’s graph has declined over the recent times. Even CM is not happy with Akhila Priya’s performance and the growing dissent in her constituency against her. All these are said to be forcing Chandrababu to take a stern action against Akhila Priya.

Even TDP’s sr leaders have decided not to persuade Akhila Priya further as she crossed the line. TDP leaders in the district are waiting for Akhila Priya’s future course of action. Will Akhila Priya bid adieu to TDP? Will Akhila Priya jump into Janasena? Only time will tell.
