Amar Akbar Anthony : Movie Review

Share

Director Sreenu Vaitla teams up with his Venky and Dubai Seenu hero Raviteja again. Despite Vaitla’s recent form, Amar Akbar Anthony raised expectations because of Raviteja and interesting promotions. However, the film turned out to be a routine revenge film with Vaitla style of treatment.

What is it about?

Amar (Raviteja) who releases from prison immediately targets people that killed his parents. He also suffers from Dissociate identity disorder which makes him behave like different persons. There is Pooja (Ileana) who also suffers from similar disorder. Are they linked? How does Amar overcome his disorder to avenge the death of his parents?

Performances:

Raviteja plays a passive role that forces him to keep his energy levels down. He is okay as Amar, but looks silly as Anthony and Akbar. Ileana is voluptuous and looks stunning as ever, but she too seems clueless with her act. Sunil enters the scene in the second half, but makes his presence felt with his inimitable comedy. Satya shines among the rest of the comedians. His parody on KA Paul is hilarious. Tarun Arora is okay among the villain gang and Abhimanyu Singh is over the top as FBI officer.

Technicalities:

Sreenu Vaitla is still struggling to get back to form. Amar Akbar Anthony is just a continuation to his last three disastrous outings. He picked up a revenge plot and tried to make it interesting by introducing multiple personality disorder, which didn’t work out due to poor writing. Even comedy scenes are not up to the mark.

Thaman’s music is below average including background score. Dialogues are lengthy and lacked punch. Cinematography is good. Editing goes haywire with too many flashbacks and sequences that end abruptly. Production values are impressive. Producers have spent a lot and didn’t compromise on the quality.

Thumbs Up:

    Few comedy scenes

Thumbs Down:

    Routine plot

    Bad Screenplay

    Clueless direction

    Music

Analysis:

Sreenu Vaitla is under pressure of delivering a hit after facing humiliating failures with his previous films. This might be the reason why he tries too hard to impress with Amar Akbar Anthony. This could have been a decent film had he kept it simple. Instead, Sreenu Vaitla tried to offer novelty as well as stick to his template comedy so that he could impress entertainment seeking audience and critics as well. Trying too hard may result in clumsy output at times and Amar Akbar Anthony is a classic example for it.

Including many subplots into the main storyline didn’t give enough time to establish the characters. Personality disorder problem which was supposed to be the interesting element in the film makes it all the more confusing and also becomes a joke after a point. Even comedy seems forced as it is out of the sync with rest of the story. Heroine also having some disorder is bit of a stretch, which doesn’t add any value to the movie.

First half is bearable to an extent, but the second half turns ridiculous with pointless scenes stitched together. Thankfully, there is Sunil who offers a few laughs here and there. A sequence involving all the comedians is fun to watch. But the protagonist’s multiple personality disorder has been dealt in a ridiculous fashion and it is surprising that it didn’t seem stupid for any of the experienced actors or technicians.

Sreenu Vaitla should have made a simple laugh riot like his previous films with Raviteja. Trying to execute something different from his usual style resulted in an incoherent mess that even Raviteja and a bunch of seasoned comedians couldn’t save. On the whole, it is yet another disappointment from the director who just doesn’t know how to come out of the hole.

Verdict: Revenge Against Audience!

Huge Demand For Taxiwala Home Theatre Shows

Share

Tomorrow we will be witnessing the third film of Vijay Devarakonda which is releasing in this calendar year. He is all set to hit the box office with “Taxiwala”, a horror thriller where a ghost lives in a car and takes its revenge. Here is an interesting snippet.

Already bookings are quite high for this much awaited film, showcasing the potential of newly emerging star Vijay Devarakonda. Not stopping there, even many big heroes and directors from film industry want to see the film on the first day itself as they can’t contain their excitement. Moreover, they want to know what is that new thing Vijay is going to do this time.

For that reason, the distributors of the film are said to be getting many requesting for Qube prints and passwords, such that these big stars will air the print at their home theatres and enjoy it. After Baahubali, they say that this is the only film that got such a demand from film fraternity for home theatre shows.

But surprisingly, many heroes and directors who watch the film are not in a mood to share comments about it on social media. They want to watch it and talk about it in private!!

Rumour: Star Hero’s Wife Upset With Paparazzi

Share

She happens to be the wife of a big star hero who manages everything of his diary. And then, she plans things quite meticulously leaving everyone around awestruck. But this time, she got shocked with the way paparazzi reacted.

Other day her husband visited a special place where they invested a lot of money and she asked some photographers to come and click pictures. And the pictures should look as if they have caught him on the lens without him knowing about it. But things went haywire as the paparazzi followed standard Indian time-sense.

While she asked them to come by 6’o clock, they thought that the hero will turn up at 7.30 for sure, and reached the spot only by 7:15 pm. But surprisingly, he came at 6.15 and left by 7 pm. The star wife went berserk over the paparazzi guys but they expressed to her that they are not expecting her husband on time.

That’s the reason time sense is pretty important, either you be on time all the time or be late all the time, but shifting between both will result in tragedies.

Why Telugu Stars Skipped 80s South Reunion?

Share

Whether it is meeting in Kerala with a floral theme, or catching up in Chennai with dazzling violet as the color code, or saying Hi in Bangalore in dazzling reds, or wandering in China for a couple of days, this batch always created a sensation.

Yes, we are talking about those reunions of 80s South star heroines and heroes, who have stunned the whole of Indian tinsel towns with their warmth laced meetings every year. Since 2009, with the idea given by heroine Suhasini Maniratnam, these stars are meeting without fail every year.

Other day they were at their 9th reunion, but there is one major defect this time. While the likes of Mohanlal, Vijay Chander, Bhagyaraja, Sarath Kumar, Arjun, Satyaraj along with Shobana, Suhasini, Radhika, Lizzie, Nadiya, Khushbu and others are present, only actor Naresh is present from the Telugu film industry. Everyear, the likes of Megastar Chiranjeevi and Venkatesh are a big draw at this event. So why did they miss?

Not just Chiru and Venky, Balayya, Ramya Krishna, Revathy and some others are also missing at the event. We hear that everyone is held up in shootings. Well, Telugu stars giving hand to this reunion isn’t looking good and hope they will rock at their 10th reunion next year.

Modi Claiming AP’s Achievements

Share

Seasoned politician Chandrababu Naidu is playing his cards well. Ever since he quit NDA, Naidu is leaving no leaf unturned to take on Modi. Whenever he gets an opportunity, he is cornering Modi on issues rather than indulging in personal diatribe. The other day, Naidu has cracked some brilliant satires on Modi’s tall claims during the latter’s foreign tours.

Naidu said he was delighted to see Modi’s statement on Fintech at Singapore. “Where is Fintech in India? It is in Vizag,” said Naidu. He added that Modi is promoting and taking credit for AP’s growth.

Naidu also raised Modi’s speech at his Japan. “Modi had raised four points at Japan. One was double-digit growth. Where is the double digit growth in the country? It is only in Andhra Pradesh. Second one was about largest mobile phones manufacturing. Where is it again? It is in AP. AP is the hub for mobile phone manufacturing and it is the largest manufacturer in the country. Third one was about ‘Ease of doing business’. AP stood out No.1 in the Ease of doing business consecutively. Fourth one was about ISRO. Where is ISRO? It is again in AP,” said laughing Chandrababu taking a dig at Modi’s claims.

“Be it Fintech Valley or I-Hub or UNESCO MGIEP or world’s best Med Tech Park, we have brought so much to Vizag. In fact, world is looking forward to the finest and first-ever large Med Tech Park to be set up in Vizag,” said Chandrababu at Vizag.

Responding to the reports that AP recorded the lowest inflation in the country, Naidu expressed his happiness. “I’m very happy. AP has the lowest inflation,” said beaming Naidu. He reasoned that more than “experience”, it is his “commitment” that is delivering the results for the Sun Rise state of Andhra Pradesh.

On one hand, Naidu ridiculed his political rival Modi to the core. And on other hand, he smartly promoted his government’s achievements and positioned himself as the propeller for growth and progress of the state. With a single stroke, Naidu got two purposes served.

Krishna, Krishna, Krishnaiah!

Share

BC leader R Krishnaiah has declared a Telangana Bandh on November 17 in protest against the Congress Party allotting only 13 tickets to BCs whereas the Reddys were given 23 tickets.

The BC population is 56% in Telangana whereas less than 20% of BCs were named in the list,” lamented Krishnaiah.

Now, dear Krishnaiah, you are not a member of the Congress Party, how then can you pull up the Congress for distributing tickets in a certain way?

You merely reap benefits from playing the BC card but have you ever done anything for your community?

Did you not continue as a TDP MLA and enjoy the full benefits of being an MLA although you never did anything for the Party?

And now, here’s the thing! If tickets are to be allotted according to the size of population then let us take the dispute between Andhra and Telangana.

Telangana is happy with the assets of undivided Andhra Pradesh being divided in proportion to the size of population of the two States but it wants Andhra Pradesh to bear the lion’s share of the debts and not according to the population formula.

Why don’t you speak about this to KCR, Krishnaiah? After all, this is what is correct when you are asking for seats on the basis of numbers, right?

As our elders say……Yendaro Mahanubhavulu . Great people can come from any caste, religion or region. When it comes to leading people, the sole criteria should be ability. Do we have a system in place that results in the best people leading us?

We should worry about things like that and not whether my caste people have been given tickets or not.

A disaster on television too

Share

Thanks to the crazy combination of Pawan Kalyan and Trivikram Srinivas, there was unprecedented craze and hype prior to the release of Agynaathavasi. However, the film ended up as a disaster and resulted in huge losses to the producer and distributors. Gemini TV had bought the satellite rights for Rs 19.5 crore and finally found the courage to telecast the movie for Diwali. Needless to say, the movie was a disaster on television too garnering a TRP of 5.3.

Even Mahesh Babu’s Spyder had a better TRP. Although Gemini TV wanted to air the film within a gap of two to three months after release, the market was just not conducive. And when it finally did, the movie ended up as a dud.

Kammas, BCs Feel Injustice In Cong!

Share

Compared to Andhra Pradesh politics in which caste factor plays a major role in deciding the fate of the candidates, Telangana does not attach much importance to this factor. For example, In a completely BC-dominated constituency like Siricilla, it is the Velamas and not the BC candidates who win the election most times.

Similarly, Reddys constitute only six per cent of the total electorate, but they get elected in large numbers every time in Telangana.Yet, during the elections, the political parties will be under pressure from various caste groups for allotment of seats. And when they do not get good number of seats, they allege injustice is meted out to them by the upper castes.

On Thursday, prominent BC leader J Chittaranjan Das, who had once defeated none other than Telugu Desam Party founder and former chief minister N T Rama Rao from Kalwakurthy constituency in Mahbubnagar district, staged a dharna in front of Gandhi Bhavan after he was denied the party ticket in the present elections in Telangana.

He said he had been loyal to the party for several decades, but only Reddys have been dominating the ticket distribution. So is the case with former PCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, who is playing the BC card after he did not find his name in the Congress lists. He is alleging injustice to the BCs by the high command.

Similarly, Ranga Reddy district Congress committee president Kyama Mallesh, who aspired to contest from Khairatabad constituency in Hyderabad, alleged that the Congress screening committee chairman Bhakta Charan Das’ son Sagar had demanded Rs 3 crore for allotting him a ticket.Former MLA from Serilingampalli Bhikshpathi Yadav, who was also denied ticket said he would contest as an independent, as there was no place for OBCs in the Congress party.

R Krishnaiah, national president of OBC associations, called for Telangana bandh on November 17 in protest against injustice done to the OBCs in the Congress. He alleged that in the name of grand alliance, the Congress was cheating the people. On the other hand, Kamma leaders in the Congress party are also agitated over denial of tickets to even a single leader from their community.

They held a meeting at a hotel and demanded that at least two seats should be given to Kammas in Hyderabad.

Nikhil Trying to Bond with VD

Share

Nikhil Siddharth, the young and talented actor, responded to a Tweet made by Vijay Deverakonda on a spur of the moment without realising that it would backfire. However, he is now going all the way to extend friendship with Vijay Deverakonda. It is ‘Past is Past’ time for both the young stars.

Last month Nikhil Siddharth wildly reacted to Vijay Deverakonda’s outburst on Twitter. After the failure of “NOTA”, Vijay tweeted that he would bounce back and would not give another opportunity for his critics to pinpoint him.Nikhil needlessly attacked to this tweet made by Vijay Deverakonda. He realised his mistake later and deleted his tweet.

Nikhil also declared that Vijay Deverakonda is a talented actor in a Q and A with his fans on Twitter.

Now, he has taken a step further to condemn the piracy of “Taxiwaala”. He requested all to watch the Vijay Deverakonda’s latest movie in theaters and asked the audiences not to encourage piracy. To this, VD immediately thanked Nikhil.

A day later, Nikhil also responded further. “Go do what you do best Vijay – setting box-office on fire,” he commended VD.He tweeted, “This 17th More Power to all of u at #Taxiwaala… Go do what u do best Vijay.. Setting the Box Office on Fire.”

Looks like all is well between these young actors now and they are set for a bonding.

Will Naidu campaign help or damage Congress?

Share

Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu is likely to campaign for the Maha Kootami in the upcoming elections in Telangana.According to media reports, Naidu to conduct roads shows in as many as 18 constituencies and in some constituencies, he would share the dais with Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

The campaign programme would be decided after Rahul completes electioneering in Madhya Pradesh in the last week of November. Most of the constituencies Naidu would be touring would be in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts, besides some other constituencies in the southern Telangana.

But the question is whether Naidu’s campaign will be of any help to the Congress party. Apparently, Naidu wants to take a strong message into the people about why the TDP had joined hands with the Congress party, besides ensuring that there would be effective transfer of votes from the TDP to the Congress and vice versa.

Since it is a do or die battle for both the Congress and the TDP, Naidu has taken the decision to campaign in Telangana to sustain his party and also generate an atmosphere of opposition unity across the country. It would also be a morale booster for the TDP cadre in Telangana.

However, analysts feel it might do more damage than good to the Congress party.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi has already making extensive campaign raking up the Telangana self-respect sentiment in the people. It is accusing the Congress party of surrendering to the TDP for the sake of votes. And it is also alleging that Naidu is pumping in more than Rs 500 crore for the Congress campaign.
Even if there is no damage, Naidu’s campaign will not of much help to the Congress, as he does not represent the spirit of Telangana.

“People do not see him as a Telangana leader at all. So, his campaign hardly makes any difference to the Maha Kootami,” an analyst said.

Releasing Today: Litmus Test For Hero and Director

Share

Raviteja and Sreenu Vaitla are facing the toughest challenge with Amar Akbar Anthony that is releasing today. Both of them have been running through lean phase in their respective careers.Raviteja’s last two films were outright duds at the box office. Mass Maharaja will have to bounce back hard with AAA to regain his lost market.

Sreenu Vaitla on the other hand has hit an all time low in his career with a hat-trick of disasters. He was left without offers for a while until Raviteja decided to give another shot with his Venky and Dubai Seenu director. The film is produced by Mythri Movie Makers who were on a roll until Savyasachi left a severe dent on their reputation as successful producers.

Ileana is reentering into Telugu film industry with AAA, which means the film’s success is crucial for her too.Vijay Antony’s Roshagadu also is releasing today. The Bichagadu star couldn’t repeat the magic with his recent films, which is why Roshagadu is not making any buzz.
