CBFC Blocks Suresh Gopi’s JSK Over Character Name ‘Janaki’

Share

The release of JSK — Janaki vs. State of Kerala, starring Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran, has hit an unexpected hurdle. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has reportedly denied screening permission due to objections surrounding the title character’s name. Directed by Pravin Narayanan, the film tells the story of a woman named Janaki who takes legal action against the state after being assaulted.

According to sources, the CBFC refused to clear the film for release because Janaki, an alternative name for Goddess Sita, cannot be assigned to this character. Pravin Narayanan confirmed the denial in a Facebook post without elaborating further, mentioning that the scheduled June 27 release will not happen.

B. Unnikrishnan, the general secretary of the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA), revealed that the CBFC had previously informed the makers that they could not use the name Janaki. “The film team was told that the name Sita cannot be used either in the title or for the character,” Unnikrishnan said while speaking to reporters in Kochi. The filmmakers have not yet received a formal show-cause notice but expect one soon.

He also noted that a similar issue had come up earlier when another Malayalam filmmaker was forced to change a character named Janaki to Jayanthi in order to obtain CBFC certification. Unnikrishnan described the CBFC’s decision as “strange,” questioning where creative freedom is headed. He added that choosing names for Hindu characters could become difficult if such restrictions continue.

Union Minister Suresh Gopi and the film’s makers were unavailable for comment.

Naga Babu Opens Up About Niharika’s Divorce and Prioritizing Her Happiness

Share

Naga Babu’s daughter, Niharika, tied the knot with Chaitanya Jonnalagadda in 2020, but the couple decided to part ways in 2023 due to irreconcilable differences. In a recent interview, Naga Babu opened up about Niharika’s divorce and his outlook as a father.

“Niharika and I often talk about everything,” he shared. “I never interfere in my children’s careers. Whether their movies succeed or fail doesn’t matter to me — their happiness is my priority. What’s the point of having crores if they aren’t truly happy? When Varun told me he wanted to marry Lavanya Tripathi, my first question was, ‘Will you be happy with her?’ Once he assured me, I approved their marriage. Today, they’re happy together.”

He then spoke candidly about Niharika’s failed marriage. “In Niharika’s case, my judgment was wrong. That marriage was a mistake — we weren’t able to read the situation properly. But I never forced her into it. When the proposal came, she agreed, and we thought it would work out. They weren’t in sync and decided to part ways mutually. I supported their decision. They weren’t happy, and I never pushed them to stay together. Right now, Niharika is busy producing films, and who knows — maybe one day she’ll choose to marry again.”

Shabana Azmi on Her Transformative Role in Lahore 1947

Share

Veteran actress Shabana Azmi, who plays the pivotal role in Lahore 1947, is still uncertain about the film’s release. “I completed my work some time ago. Now it’s up to producer Aamir Khan,” she shares. “I believe he plans to release Lahore 1947 after Sitaare Zameen Par.”

For Shabana, working on this project was an incredibly fulfilling experience. “I play a matriarch who fiercely refuses to leave her ancestral home. It’s a tragic character, yet incredibly brave,” she says.

And yes, there were tears — plenty of them. “I’ve never played such a rondhu (crybaby) role in my life,” she laughs. “Saying she weeps copiously would be an understatement. I felt like Leela Chitnis and Nirupa Roy rolled into one.”

The film also brought new experiences for Shabana. “It was my first time working with Sunny Deol, and also my first time sharing the screen with Preity Zinta. We got along like a house on fire,” she recalls fondly.

Perhaps most surprising was the physical transformation Shabana underwent for the role. “I lost more than 15 kilos to play a frail-looking woman,” she reveals. “It was challenging, but absolutely worth it for this character.”

Salman Khan Opens Up on Health Battle and Staying Single

Share

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan recently opened up about his health struggles, sharing that he has been battling trigeminal neuralgia — a rare nerve disorder that affects the face — for several years.

This condition causes severe, sharp pain in the face and jaw, often triggered by everyday activities like eating or speaking. Salman described the sensation as “a thousand needles piercing my face all at once,” making even simple tasks unbearable at times.

In 2011, the Bajrangi Bhaijaan star underwent multiple surgeries to manage the condition and experienced some relief, though he acknowledged that trigeminal neuralgia can recur at any time.

Speaking on The Kapil Sharma Show recently, Salman also reflected on his personal life, revealing that he is currently single and at peace with his status. When asked if there was anyone special in his life, Salman laughed it off and admitted he enjoys having his own space. “I’m at a stage where I don’t want to make the sacrifices that couples often do,” he said.

He also made light of the topic of divorce, suggesting that separations often happen over small things — and joked that spouses could end up taking half of one’s wealth. “I’ve worked extremely hard for my success,” Salman added, “so the thought of losing half of it is daunting.”

Despite the serious health condition and his cautious outlook on relationships, Salman continues to stay positive and focus on his work — a true testament to his resilience and enduring star power.

Kuberaa: A Triumph of Content-Driven Cinema

Share

In a rare and remarkable feat, Kuberaa, directed by Sekhar Kammula and starring Dhanush and Nagarjuna, is winning hearts with its powerful content as well as making waves at the box office. The team recently celebrated its success in grand style, with Megastar Chiranjeevi gracing the occasion as the chief guest.

Director Sekhar Kammula humbly admitted that he was initially uncertain about the film’s reception. “I’m overwhelmed by the incredible response,” he shared. “People are calling Nagarjuna garu’s performance a game-changer and saying Dhanush has delivered a god-like portrayal!”

Reflecting on the film’s success, Dhanush noted, “It’s immensely gratifying to see a movie like this succeed. In an era when only big-budget spectacles seem to draw crowds, Sekhar Kammula has proven that heartfelt stories and genuine emotions can still win audiences. I’m delighted to see Sekhar and the producers so happy!”

Nagarjuna highlighted the significance of Kuberaa’s triumph. “My heartfelt thanks to Sekhar Kammula for his incredible vision. This film belongs to everyone, but it truly is Sekhar’s creation. He discovered a side of me I never knew existed,” he expressed. Nagarjuna also praised Dhanush, calling his performance “extraordinary,” and compared Rashmika’s work to Sridevi in Kshana Kshanam. “When a strong, content-driven film like this also becomes a commercial success, it paves the way for new stories and characters,” he added.

Chiranjeevi too had high praise for the team. “When Nagarjuna first told me about this project and his role, I was astonished. Sekhar’s courage and Nagarjuna’s faith in him were the first big successes for this film,” Chiranjeevi remarked. “Sekhar Kammula has always given us heartfelt cinema that speaks to the soul, and this is yet another shining example.”

He also complimented Dhanush’s brilliance in playing the complex role of Deva. “Only Dhanush could do justice to this character. It’s like Sekhar wrote this part with him in mind. Don’t be surprised if this performance earns him another National Award!”

Chiranjeevi concluded by underlining the importance of supporting meaningful films. “We need more movies like Kuberaa. Getting audiences to theaters is challenging these days, but when a strong story like this succeeds — especially in uncertain times — it gives the entire industry new hope.”

Nagarjuna Clarifies Role in Kubera Amid Fan Backlash

Share

When it comes to not worrying about image and taking up any role without hesitation, Akkineni Nagarjuna is one of the few star heroes in Telugu cinema who truly stands out. Everyone is well aware of the many experimental films Nagarjuna has done as a lead hero. Beyond that, he never shied away from doing special roles in other heroes’ films across different languages. Recently, he captivated audiences once again with his character Deepak in Kubera, where Tamil star Dhanush plays the lead. Nagarjuna delivered a performance on par with the hero himself, and the film is receiving a great response — making everyone involved quite happy.

However, during the post-success press meet, one particular comment by Nagarjuna angered Tamil fans, sparking criticism and trolling on social media. In his speech, Nagarjuna remarked that when the story of Kubera was narrated to him, he felt as though he was the hero of the film, that his character was the most pivotal, and that the story begins and turns around his role.

This comment led Tamil audiences to question him, especially since before the movie’s release at the pre-release event, Nagarjuna had said that neither he nor Dhanush were the hero — that director Sekhar Kammula was the real hero, just like K.V. Reddy was the true hero of Mayabazar. Tamil fans are now upset, feeling that after the film’s success, Nagarjuna is suddenly claiming all the credit and declaring himself the hero of Kubera.

However, this is a misunderstanding. Nagarjuna never intended to take credit away from Dhanush. What he meant was that when the story was first pitched to him, he was impressed by the importance of his role and, naturally, felt like a hero in his own right. It is unfair to twist his words or accuse him of seeking credit after the success.

In fact, even at this success meet, Nagarjuna once again repeated his earlier sentiment — that, like Mayabazar, Sekhar Kammula is the true hero of Kubera. Ignoring this and focusing only on one part of his speech is misleading and unjustified.

Aamir Khan Fires Back at Remake Critics

Share

The superstar lost his cool when asked, “Why do you keep making remakes instead of original films?” The star fired back at the reporters, making it clear that he would gladly continue to make remakes for the rest of his life. Throughout his career, he said, he has achieved more with remakes than he ever did with original stories. He also argued that he never merely ‘copy-pastes’ someone else’s work; rather, he adapts remakes creatively and meaningfully. The media was left stunned by his strong response.

And this star was none other than the great Aamir Khan. Recently, amid widespread criticism that Bollywood is losing its originality due to a string of remakes and consecutive flops, this reaction from Aamir came as a surprise to everyone. Responding directly to those condemning remakes, he argued that it’s unfair to criticize them blindly. Citing Taare Zameen Par as an example — which was inspired by the Spanish film Campeones — he challenged the media, asking how many had even seen the original version. Even then, he noted, he didn’t simply cut and paste the story; he localized it for Indian audiences.

Aamir also pointed out how Ghajini, which was a remake, became the first film in his career — and also in Bollywood history — to cross the ₹100 crore milestone. Producer Allu Aravind was widely appreciated for bringing the Hindi version of Ghajini to life and for creating such a massive success for Aamir and the industry. Aamir remarked that Taare Zameen Par also received glowing reviews, although its box-office opening was not as strong as expected. The movie, featuring Genelia in a pivotal role, had to compete with the Kajol-starrer horror film Maa, which was released around the same time and had also generated considerable hype.
