The Rajinikanth-mania has gave ‘2 Point 0’ the biggest opening weekend at box-office globally. And now, after 7 days of being in theatres, the science fiction film has registered another record in terms of its ticket sales on BookMyShow app.

According to the statement issued by the makers of 2.0 – Lyca Productions, 5.2 Million tickets of 2.0 have sold on Book My Show app and it’s worth 100.10 Crores. That’s humongous for any Indian film. The Shankar directorial strikes right chord with the audiences and it is winning millions of hearts across the country. Within first two days of its release, the film has taken box-office by storm and emerged as one of the fastest film movies to cross the 3 Million ticket sales mark on BookMyShow.

2.0, which released in 15000 screens all around the globe, is being received well by the viewers and is minting huge moolah at the box-office. Besides Rajini, the film features Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and London lady Amy Jackson in key roles. In its opening weekend, the film has surpassed Hollywood’s Creed-2 & managed to collect $4.09 Million and in UAE, it has minted $2.5 million.

Some time ago there are rumours that Koratala Siva has moved on from Megastar Chiru’s project. It is also assumed that he might direct either Vijay Devarakonda or Mahesh Babu yet again in his next. Is there any truth in these rumours?

Apparently, some close sources in Konidela Production have now shared with many media folks about what is happening with this project. Actually, Koratala narrated the storyline to Chiranjeevi after the mighty matinee idol returned from Georgia schedule of Sye Raa a month ago.

And then, Chiranjeevi gave a go to the original idea which actually resonates close to the movie Tagore. However, Koratala will be taking on handling corruption in bureaucracy in his own style unlike AR Murugadoss (directed by Vinayak in Telugu). Currently, Koratala is busy with the pre-production, and the film might go to sets from April next year.

All A-list directors are busy with projects with A-list heroes and this has given mid-range directors an opportunity to approach the new star on the rise, Vijay Devarakonda.Post Taxiwala, Vijay D has not committed to any film except Dear Comrade although he has agreements with as many as six producers.

Gossip in T-town is that directors Maruti and Gopichand Malineni are keen on working with Vijay D as is Puri Jagannath who apparently wants to do a Pokiri kind of film with him. But Vijay D is the kind of hero who does not select his directors based on their track record.

He is cultivating an anti-conventional, rebellious kind of an image and that of a lover boy as well.

Therefore, he is selecting scripts that will nourish this image and although he is listening to various scripts, he is not rushing into making a decision.

Bellamkonda Srinivas-Kajal Agarwal starrer Kavacham released recently and both the actors have been lavishing praise on one another.While Bellamkonda said that Kajal is extremely hard working and he had learnt a lot from her, Kajal said she did Kavacham only because Bellamkonda asked her.

Both the bride and the her groom are brand names. And so shall they remain. Name unaltered. However, everything else that can possibly change, will change for India’s most dynamic export since Basmati rice.

For one, Priyanka will spend even more time in the US. There is more reason for her to do so. She will, of course, keep popping in and out of Mumbai. But career-wise (and boy, is she wise about her career) there is not much for her left to do in Bollywood. She has played a gamut of roles that Bollywood has to offer. She cannot be paired with any of the A-list heroes, for a variety of reasons. Suffice it to say that she is several sizes larger in stature now than Bollywood can accommodate.

Here is where Priyanka will achieve that diasporic crossover in the truest sense. She will form a business partnership with her husband that will extend the spectrum of her creative activities and give her new avenues to explore. I suspect acting won’t be a primary concern at the moment. Music may perhaps take a more prominent position in her career than movies, as both Jonas and Chopra are into music and singing.

Just how they will explore their individual vocal space as a couple remains to be seen. From what I hear, Priyanka wants to produce a lot of global music, which need not necessarily communicate her cultural antecedents.

In an informal chat with me, Priyanka once talked about what she wanted from the West. “It needn’t be what the West wants from me. I don’t want to do what is expected in the West from Indian and Asian actors-musicians.”

Sure enough, “Quantico”, or for that matter her brief role in the Hollywood production “A Kid Like Jake”, does not put too fine a point on the colour of her skin. Nor did she have to speak brown-memsaab English in a singsong voice to earn brownie points from the West, the way Hollywood expects Indian actors to speak. (Here we will not even go into her disastrous Hollywood debut in “Baywatch” where she hammed so badly, it made us cringe.)

Priyanka has truly liberated the Indian actor from the need to be “Indian”. While Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is undoubtedly a global icon, her glamour is embedded in exoticism in the West.

Priyanka is just plain darned sexy in a very cultural-unspecific way. I think she will now tap into that “nowhere” quality in her personality to get somewhere specific in her career. It seems Nick and Priyanka are planning to set up a business empire devoted to generating and marketing entertainment software.

Rest assured, the newly-wedded Mrs Jonas won’t waste a moment of her time in looking around for opportunities. For her, they are there for asking. She will play a global part in the American entertainment industry in the way Anupam Kher never can. She needn’t play “Ms India” to pander to the Western need for Oriental obliqueness. She will ride the waves of her egalitarian cosmopolitanism without ever losing sight of her desi roots.

That American accent which comes and goes depending on whom Priyanka is talking to, is now here to stay. Go green with envy, all you Bollywood begums. Priyanka Chopra now has the Green Card and the unfettered soul to go with it. One cannot wait to see what she does with the freedom that marriage brings to her remarkable life.
